Hidden gem

We found this restaurant through Trip Advisor and it had pretty good reviews. It is a tiny place with a smallish menu but the food was absolutely fabulous. Very tasty and the desserts a delight. A great taste of France in Yorkville. service was attentive and friendly and the location very quaint.

My husband and I had dinner here on a weekend getaway. Service was outstanding and the food was some of the best we've ever had. The carrot/ginger soup was a tad too gingery but everything else was superb. Be sure to try the creme caramel dessert (with orange)! A perfect lunch - all 3 of us agreed

We've been to many fine restaurants in the US, Asia, and Europe, and this place still stands out. I got the Nicoise salad and a fellow diner warned about poached salmon. "poaching = bland" she suggested. The other two got an omelet. We each got a glass of wine.

Still great after all these years - perfect ladies lunch

Best omelets in Toronto served with nicely crisped potato cubes and tender crisp vegetables, yummy baguette slices on the side with good butter. Apple tartin was superb.  Small quiet nicely appointed restaurant overlooking yorkville ave. Have to climb a steep set of stairs, if need an elevator, phone, not sure there is one.

We loved this small intimate restaurant. It has been in operation for over 30 years, and yet is not often mentioned in dining guides; however it is a favourite with locals.
Authentic French bistro cuisine, superb low keyed service, and fair pricing made for a thoroughly enjoyable evening.

This restaurant gets it. The whole package. It is small, peaceful, up a long flight of stairs, private. The decor is old fashioned - the wallpaper, the carpet, have obviously been loved over time. CDN$42 for an omelette and a beer for lunch was a bit much. I could have done it at home for 10 bucks. I had read that it was a good spot. I will not go back. Maybe I just made a poor choice from the menu.

A small and simple Bistro, with always good to very good food. Very friendly and knowledgeable service. Order any variation and it will be accommodated. A bit pricey for the setting. But then again it is in the heart of Yorkville.

Place could be considered cute or just a little shabby - your choice. But there is nothing shabby about the food. I have eaten here four times and will return. Last week, I eat their sweetbreads - succulent. Sauces always good tells me that somebody really cares. Not too pricey. Smack bang in Yorkville so tons of shopping, film festival etc.

While the dining room and the menu are looking a little tired, you can still find good french food here in this Yorkville second floor standard; special soups and uncomplicated mains are the watchword here; perhaps a bit of an updating might help inspire the chefs to reach higher.

We have eaten at Jacques for years. Best onion soup and creme caramel anywhere. We have tried

creme caramel in Quebec, Vancouver, east coast US

and W. Coast and Jacques is the best. Pork tenderloin - delightful flavour.

Oh.. and then there is the floating Island desert.
