Hotel Le St. James is a Montreal boutique hotel with contemporary classic design, comfortable and stylish rooms, spa services and award winning XO Le Restaurant
Extraordinaire.

Rock royalty frequents this lavishly furnished luxury hotel, which has also pampered European nobility, the business elite, and Hollywood moguls who appreciate the splendor. Dripping with Old World charm, Le St. James was once the Mercantile Bank of Canada. That explains why a former boardroom has 20-foot ceilings and lovingly restored murals of hydroelectric dams and waterfalls. Guest rooms... plus
This restored fin-de-siècle hôtel particulier set a new standard for boutique luxury when it opened in 2002 in Old Montréal. The owners traveled around the world to handpick antiques, furniture, and paintings to individually furnish the 60 rooms; the result is an eclectic mix of Russian armoires, Thai silk wall hangings, wood floors imported from Italian castles, and imposing Grecian... plus
A dash of Rococo and a lot of rock ‘n’ roll, baby! If it’s good enough for Madonna and the Rolling Stones, it might just be good enough for you. The height of luxury comes at a price. A mere $5000 for the Terrace Apartment. Architecture and sculptures from 1870. Airs and attitude from 2008. 61 roomsindividually decorated in lavish traditional fashion. Modern it is not. Spectacular it is.
What can you say about this hotel that my photos don't already? It is easy to see why this hotel is on AMEX Platinum list of fine hotels. Located in downtown Montreal, from the moment you enter you know you have arrived "home." A sitting area with tall bookcases on your right as you enter is the perfect place to unwind. The beautiful chandeliers and art that adorn the walls are the perfect... plus
We booked a superior junior suite king/550 square feet, which was to have a separate sitting area (and it did). Our 4th floor room (406) was fine, although a bit dark as it faced an office building and you could hear a low mechanical noise from outside. We decided to stay with the room thinking it would be dark and therefore good for sleeping and the white noise was much quieter than the... plus
Hotel le St-James was AMAZING.
I kept going back and forth between the Ritz and Hotel le St-James, and I'm so glad we picked this hotel. I wanted to be in the heart of things and I have to say that the hotel's location is perfect. You can easily walk everyone in old town, but it is walkable to downtown and basically anywhere if you like walking (we walked back from St. Viater bagel after...

I don't understand the rave reviews. Yes it's a beautiful old style hotel.
The staff was average.
Unlike other reviewers we got no free upgrades. And no amenities at all...except for 2 free bottles of water a day.
The bed was quite comfortable, however the bed frame was set out from the mattress. After 3 days, so far I banged my shin once and my husband banged his toe twice and shin once.

A quick visit as we pretty much just needed a place to crash until we flew out the next morning. Very upper end hotel with great service, the room service was quick and accurate. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was all white marble with a nice shower and great water pressure. I can't say enough great things about this hotel. From the moment my driver pulled up, service was impeccable. My bags were taken to my room, my room was upgraded, my doors were open, check in was superb, every step of the way was a smile and great service. I'm a lifetime visitor to this hotel! They couldn't do enough.
What a great experience my wife and I had at this hotel. Every staff member at the hotel and adjoining restaurant we're welcoming, attentive and went above and beyond to ensure we were taken care of. The hotel is in a beautiful building, and rooms were terrific. There was a mix up on the room reservation that resulted from the phone app I used, but the staff and management dealt with it... plus
Fantastic beautiful hotel. Although we made a mistake during booking, the staff went out of their way to accommodate us. We I won't bore you with the details, suffice to say, you will be unbelievably impressed. They upgraded us to a luxurious suite. Cannot compliment them enough. Thank you Robert Vandette & the lovely Tara.
After a horrible hotel that we started at, I called AmEx Platinum services and said, help me find a nice place in Old Montreal. We chose this gem, which is one on AmEx's fine hotel and resorts program. That programs gives you added benefits, such as noon check-in, free upgrade if available, breakfast for two and usually a special like $100 dining credit.
This hotel is fantastic. The staff is...

My wife & I echo all of those comments listing this a 5 star hotel for all of their reasons described. This IS a truly world-class luxury, boutique (smaller ambiance) hotel. The welcome on a rainy night with the doorman opening the taxi door and with a protective umbrella, the check-in... plus
Gives the Ritz a run for its' money. Beautiful decor...classic not cheap chic. Staying at this hotel is an experience. Staff is vey attentive and make you feel at home. Perfect location for all of Montreal's great places to offer. My wife and I planned to do a lot more than we did but we stayed in the hotel instead....just so cozy. Try and stay in suite.
Very beautiful and historic hotel situated in a 1800's bank. The decor and atmosphere was very rich and historic feeling. The hotel is not huge and felt very home like. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. I stay in a lot of high end hotels all over North America and the room was one of the best. The bed was very comfortable and the layout was very usable. The bathroom was all marble... plus
From the moment we checked in my husband and I were delighted with the beauty of the hotel. Old Montreal is charming and full of little shops. When we pay over $350 a night for a room in a 5-star luxury hotel, we expect to be "wowed" by the experience. And indeed we have at other hotels around the world for this amount of money. Sadly this was not the case at this hotel in Montreal.

This hotel is in an old converted bank and the conversion makes fantastic use of the space. The huge, high-ceilinged restaurant is memorable. The hotel is well-located for the tourist sites. We enjoyed our massages in the hotel's basement spa.
Service is amazing. Food and martinis just as amazing. Personally, I LOVE the coffee. What I love even more is the linens on the beds/duvet/pillows/slippers...OMG, can't wait to go back.

I arrived very late, American Airlines having lost my luggage onion spite of a 3 hour layover. Reception could have not been more helpful with shaving kit etc. Very good room service supper, attractive immaculate large room with a bowl of fruit and excellent breakfast. A really first rate hotel and reasonably priced for the exceptional quality.
My travels have taken me to some of the best properties around the world. But in terms of luxury and consistently impeccable service, nothing beats this hotel. Service was excellent. Food was very good.. Rooms and toiletries first rate.
It sounds a bit trite to complain about the coffee in such a terrific hotel - but they bill themselves as a "high touch - attention to detail" kind of place - and their coffee "lacks a je me sais quoi", in fact it's really not good. Not just once but the few times I say there to try to... plus

The Hotel Le St. James is a beautiful small hotel located near old Montreal. The rooms are elegant and it earns it's reputation as one of the leading hotels in the world. The food is excellent and the staff warm and friendly. I highly recommend it.

Friends recommended the St.-James as "the place to stay" in Montreal, and they were right. It's elegant and refined, with excellent service. Loved this hotel. Rooms were awesome, staff very helpful and friendly. The Hotel Le St-James Montreal is one of my favorite hotels I have ever stayed at. The rooms are amazing and the service is second to none!!!
We were in Mtl to see the ballet. We stayed 2 nights in a lovely suite. This was an interesting location for us in the heart of Old Mtl. near the Cathedral of Notre Dame, restaurants and shops, and the theatre was not too far away. But, one would need to drive/taxi to get to the main area of the city where there is the Museum and shops/restaurants on or near St. Catherine and Sherbrooke Street.
One of the best five boutique hotels it has been my pleasure to visit. My wife and I are experienced international travelers. I stayed at the St-James for 4 days last week. Almost a perfect experience. The hotel is lovely on the inside, very old-world style and furnishings. A wonderful hotel and courteous, helpful staff, and in a terrific location in Vieux Montreal. Will stay there again without hesitation.
Please note that the St. James Hotel is lovely and practically perfect. The 4 1/2 star rating is due to minor things, most of which the hotel has no control over. We loved the beautiful hotel. The staff was amazing and quite attentive. The room was spacious and service changed the room 2x per day - once in the morning and once in evening.
My wife and I just stayed at this wonderful hotel during a long weekend in Montreal. You feel like you are the only guest there because the service is so lovely. The turndown service every night is a treat to come back to before bed. Beautiful room, comfortable bed, and overall a great experience.
My partner and I decided on the St. James because of it's 5-star rating and location in the old section of Montreal. We have stayed in several hotels in Montreal and we enjoyed Le St-James above all others. We had two executive suites which were just oversized rooms. I was traveling with my two teenaged sons and so we all needed a bed to ourselves. King beds in both rooms and we got a roll away - clean and nice bathrooms. Decor is traditional - the rooms are darkish because of the size of the windows. Because the hotel is older there is less insulation from the outside city sounds.
We had two executive suites next door to each other. The hotel is older and the interior of the rooms are decorated in a traditional style. While my husband and I were very comfortable in our corner jr suite - the service was a bit lacking at times. one of the best hotels in Montreal if not the best, great rooms and excellent service and very high end amenities all over the hotel. staff are very professional in all means. if anyone looking for the best this is the best for sure. SPA is out of this world
This hotel was incredible clean, nice room amenities, and a very polite staff. It had the best shower pressure that I have ever had in my life!! Great night sleep since the hotel is very quiet. Only negative is that $20 a martini is a bit pricy in my mind.
My girlfriend and I just returned from this amazing hotel. We visited for the weekend, and were happy we chose to stay here. The staff were pleasant and helpful, the food delicious, and the general atmosphere was just incredible. I can't wait for to return for another weekend get away, we love this place!
It's an hotel that caters to a style and taste, and the tasting menu is an experience. The staff across the board is witty, helpful and attentive if needs be. The atmosphere is calm and pleasurable differentiating it from the rush of most hotels. Yet it is near most facilities that are internationally relevant for the city. Would never go any where else in Montreal.
Location is perfect. In the middle of old town, right behind the Notre Dame Cathedral.
