Old World Charm, good & attentive reception.

We were in Mtl to see the ballet. We stayed 2 nights in a lovely suite. This was an interesting location for us in the heart of Old Mtl. near the Cathedral of Notre Dame, restaurants and shops, and the theatre was not too far away. But, one would need to drive/taxi to get to the main area of the city where there is the Museum and shops/restaurants on or near St. Catherine and Sherbrooke Street.

Just a short walk to the major old Montreal major attractions the St-James is a beautiful old world Hotel. Loved this old style hotel with plenty of history . Very well appointed rooms including a great bath for soaking away the travel tiredness and an extensive range of quality toiletry products ( says Jane anyway). Nice hotel in Old Montreal

We had two executive suites which were just oversized rooms. I was traveling with my two teenaged sons and so we all needed a bed to ourselves. King beds in both rooms and we got a roll away - clean and nice bathrooms. Decor is traditional - the rooms are darkish because of the size of the windows. Because the hotel is older there is less insulation from the outside city sounds.

We had two executive suites next door to each other. The hotel is older and the interior of the rooms are decorated in a traditional style. Great room but no air conditioning.

We were only able to get into our room at 5:00 o'clock even though check in was at 4:00. There was no air conditioning the first day of arrival and the temperature hit 75 degrees.

Stayed here one night along with two other couples en route to an event in Quebec. Absolutely beautiful, staff seemed to really enjoy what they were doing, almost as if this was their home. Such a perfect place for a special occasion. Loved it and will definitely stay again.

Beyond criticism

It's an hotel that caters to a style and taste, and the tasting menu is an experience. The staff across the board is witty, helpful and attentive if needs be. The atmosphere is calm and pleasurable differentiating it from the rush of most hotels. Yet it is near most facilities that are internationally relevant for the city. Would never go any where else in Montreal.

Location is perfect. In the middle of old town, right behind the Notre Dame Cathedral. We paid extra for one of the junior suites. The room was tasteful but not as big as I'd expected for the price. There are bathrobes and slippers are lovely Molten Brown toiletries but then they spoil it by wanting to charge $20 for wifi. Fantastic experience!  The rooms are elegant and comfortable, the jazz music playing in the room when you walk in was a nice touch.  The shower was big with great water pressure.  The restaurant is beautiful, we enjoyed a welcome drink on the house - the Irish Coffee was the best I've ever had.  The staff was very nice and accommodating and the hotel is in a great location.

"The Hotel Le St. James is not a boutique hotel, it's a palace," so true.

Owner Lucien Rémillard really gets the right chemistry down for this hotel.

Here's a place where if you have to ask the price of anything, yeah it's going to be too expensive. But if you don't mind dropping a G-note for quality, luxury and the best in service, you'll leave happy.

My wife and I spent the weekend in Montreal, and were disappointed in the level of amenities provided in this five-star hotel. We anticipated that there would be a comfortable lounge with multiple seating areas and service for drinks or light appetizers, and instead there was a shabby "library" adjacent to the drafty main entrance, which served as a waiting room for guests checking in. Beautiful hotel, I actually took pictures of a few of the furnishings in the room. Molton Brown products which I love, beautiful marble bathrooms (although I would prefer a bathtub) with huge showers. My only negative was that when I went downstairs to get a coffee in the morning, the bar happily gave me one in a to-go cup. They also happily added $8 to my bill....for coffee....I think all high... plus

I went there for brunch with a couple of friends. The location is one of the best in Old Montreal, however, this brunch was a bit overpriced considering the quality of the food.

It was a normal hotel as the others. I like some parts of it like the architecture and the design, however the service was bad as some waiters are very lazy in their service. I wasn't expecting this in this kind of hotel where it is considered as five-star hotel. My girlfriend ordered for a steak and she received a fish. The waiter insisted that it is a steak, but how can a steak be white.
