Fabulous from the minute we arrived until we left. It's a memory that makes you want to go back. Great for rejuvenation, romance and more. Very elegant.
For the second year in a row my husband and I visited Hasting House Restaurant for my birthday celebration. Again we had an artfully presented meal, as delicious as it looked. The scenery out the window is enchanting, transporting you to a world away from the shabbier neighborhood it resides in. We always forget to arrive early enough to enjoy... more
Stayed at the Hastings House for two nights for our anniversary in July and booked in the Post Cottage, which was the original Hudson Bay Post Office. I would highly recommend this accommodation for anyone wanting privacy and exclusivity as a couple as it is the only free standing structure for 2 ppl on property and very charming. The gardens,... more
This is a lovely, elegant restaurant with stunning views of the quaint harbor below. Wait staff was attentive and quite knowledgeable regarding food preparation and wine choices. Every plate was served with fresh edible flowers, very beautiful. Great for a special occasion!
We had a lovely three days at Hastings House. The staff were unfailingly pleasant and helpful, the food was delicious, and the grounds are charming and beautiful. We were very happy staying in the Sealoft; it's bright yet cozy, the bed was comfortable and the chairs lovely for curling up and reading. We loved the location, too - a short... more
What a beautiful place set on 22 acres which was bursting with spring colour. Various lodging options throughout the grounds but we were in Manor West in the main house. Has two bedrooms so great for friends travelling together. A fire in the room which we eventually go to light on our third night (wood was probably a bit green).... more
Hasting House staff showed their true colour by being amazingly helpful at every turn. From check in(Thanks Drew) to dinner service (thanks Robert) and then the spa treatment.....this resort shone above any other we have vacationed at....What an amazing time we had......The combination of staff and amenities made our daughter's wedding truly a memorable occasion. I highly recommend a stay at Hastings House. Although the rooms may not be 5-star, the setting, service and experience certainly are. The restaurant has excellent food and an impressive wine list. We visited in July, at the beginning of their summer. Kayaking on pristine water, afternoon tea, long walks, visits to artisan farms. Altogether, it was an idyllic setting--an... more
When decor is a little old and tired in a big-city hotel, it can be off-putting, but at Hastings House, it somehow feels just right in its authenticity. We stayed in the Farmhouse and found the setting idyllic and very, very charming. Loved sleeping with windows open and thin drapes billowing in the breeze. Adult children stayed in other rooms... more
What a beautiful spot on a lovely Gulf Island (Salt Spring). Magnificent and tremendously well tended grounds - here at the height of lilacs and spring bulbs. Staff very nice - although surprising that almost none knew anything of hiking trails on the island. Restaurant quiet, excellent if traditional food. Hard to beat for a quiet relaxing spot.
Hastings House is the most exquisite estate I have had the privilege to visit and stay at. I had my recent wedding here and the staff took care of every detail! Planned and executed in 7 days, our day was easy and effortless, amazing and gorgeous! The rest of our stay was equally as breathtaking. From the sprawling beautifully landscaped... more
The setting is fantastic, the old country inn charming, and the staff very attentive. Our only complaint was the condition of the room. While clean, it needed updating. Very 80's plumbing and decor, and our coffeemaker was broken and not repaired after the 2nd night. The manager adjusted our bill, without asking, which showed class, but still, at over $400 a night, the issue should have never... more
I just want to say a tidbit of the glorious elegance that was bestowed upon us. Please do experience this property at your leisure. The linens are fresh and lovingly laid out for turn down. It isn't often one finds the perfect holiday destination but we did at Hastings House on Saltspring Island. The staff are outstanding. Friendly, attentive... more
Great choices on the menu for everyone. Service was excellent. Breakfasts and dinner were wonderful as was the afternoon tea presented by the fireplace. Beautiful setting overlooking the harbour
My husband surprised me with a romantic night at this beautiful place. We have been coming to Saltspring for over 20 years to stay at our family's cottage. So I thought that was where we were headed. To my surprise and delight we ended up here. Stayed at Post Cottage, very charming, super comfortable bed and lovely view of harbour.... more
OK, granted, a special occasion, 40th wedding anniversary. We got a room in the Manor house (west), very warm and comfortable, building built in 1930, to resemble the owner's manor house in Kent, UK. The venue was truly special and the staff very attentive. I have organized corporate retreats for small groups and teams for many years and Hastings House is a perfect venue. I love every thing about this charming Chateaux and the extensive grounds, sculpture garden, amazing vista over looking Ganges Harbour, world class spa and restaurant and yet unpretentious at the same time in terms of mood, i just love this place!
What an incredibly magical place for a romantic weekend getaway! My partner and I stayed here for two nights as part of the Relais & Chafteaux Discover the Faces of Western Canada promotion. Salt Spring Island is a delight, floating off the east coast of Vancouver Island. While on a spontaneous trip to Salt Spring Island, we chose this hotel. We ended up extending our stay two nights because we felt so comfortable and cozy here. Perfect place for a romantic getaway.

We were looking for a relaxed, celebratory weekend not too far from our home, but special nonetheless. Hastings House Country House Hotel filled the bill most admirably. We stay two nights at Hastings House last week and enjoyed everything. Beautiful Rooms, Excellence Services, Terrific and Tasty Breakfast and Afternoon Tea, Awesome Swedish and Shiatsu Massage. Thanks all of the staffs that made our stay memorable. We stayed in the West Manor Suite, easy to access to breakfast and afternoon tea during this rainy season.
We stayed over New Year, 29th Dec - 1st Jan 2014 for a quiet getaway to start a new year.

We took a side trip to Salt Spring and stayed at Hastings House for a night on New Year's Day. We planned for a four day quiet get a way, instead they moved us to a noisy room just up the hill from a bar. All for their convenience! Beautiful, tranquil setting with gardens to make an Englishman proud. Excellent service from everyone--vigilant but unobtrusive. Restaurant is one of the finest in the northern hemisphere. Can't imagine a nicer place to unwind and re-generate. We followed this with one night at the Empress in Victoria (terrible), and found the Empress more expensive than Hastings House.
This is an unbelievably pretty, quaint and service oriented place. The gardens, waterview and buildings were beautiful. The accomodations are very expensive, roomy and clean. But for the price they charge they should be updated. We had dinner there and it was excellent.
We will go again, but we will stay just one night and have dinner there or stay...

The food was excellent but my phoned reservation (made 6 months earlier) mentioned a food problem that was completely ignored and was not dealt with. There is no flexibility in the menu -- be warned prix fixeé and no substitutions!
This is one of the most tranquil and beautiful properties my husband and I have stayed at. There is so much beauty in the gardenes and the view of the harbor. We took so many pictures. We did the crab package, where you go out on a boat and catch crabs and the chef prepares them for you that night... more
Too often a 5-star can coast until the travel books are updated--as has this place. Not to mention the desserts! The ice cream had clots of ice, the... more
Hastings House is the place to go on the Island for a romantic and truly gourmet meal. Most of the dishes are sourced locally & therefore are fresh. We loved all the little extras from the edible flowers & the bouche douche of tuna to start. Thank you.
From the moment you step onto this property, enchantment reigns. The gardens are spectacular - from the manicured lawns, to the flowering beds and the vegetable garden that produces the local herbs and vegetables that are served in the dining room.
The restaurant is equally impressive. From the moment you enter, the excellent service and friendliness are evident. Start with...

We met some friends for cocktails and appies. I felt that the service was slow and not attentive. The server interrupted our conversation and was not of silver service quality....however, the smoked salmon was the best I have ever tasted, and I will return, bad service and all just for the salmon.
When we arrived we were very impressed by the history, charm and beauty of our surroundings, and thoroughly disappointed by everything that followed. The Hastings House is a spectacular spot: the views, the ambiance and even the set menus all seem perfect when you arrive--perhaps even worthy of the $80/plate price tage. We would have happily paid the high fare... more

The setting and atmosphere are "old country" but the stay is luxurious.

The room was not as nice as I would expect. Carpet was old and the interior finish was mid-quality.
The location is excellent. Very courteous and professional staff. It's very serene environment in which one can relax sitting around, breakfast, tea and dinner.

We found the bed somewhat too soft for our liking. One morning I found a large spider in the bathroom. That might be unavoidable given the the rural setting.
We have been there before, so one thing we like is that there have been no significant changes. The staff are wonderful and always trying to find ways to make your stay more enjoyable.

Every single staff member was exceptional.
The view from the diningroom was amazing and thanks for arranging the rainbow!
The food was delicious.

Stairs were difficult for my aunt who was recovering from knee surgery.
All the staff were sincere and gave 110%. The attention to detail was

Magnificent property, beautiful countryside, awesome service. Wish I could afford to stay there high season.
This is a beautiful, peaceful place to visit for relaxation and refreshment. I visited in early December and still the gardens and everything about the place was wonderful. Falling asleep to firelight dancing on the ceiling is a treat as was the lovely breakfast provided by Michael. I'll definitely be going back every chance I get.

Exquisite is how I would describe our visit to Hastings House. The "Manor",is an old style English Manor House with all the modern conveniences, including afternoon tea. From the moment we walked in to this Tudor style house right on the harbour in Ganges, we were thoroughly impressed. From drinks by the wood fireplace, to the final course of our menu, the service, food and atmosphere were impecable. Our weekend was a dream, a cozy English manor house, the idyllic island setting, meals to die for, and service from another era. The lawns and gardens that run to the sea are accented by artwork from the island famous crafts community and it was fun just to wander about. I hear that they have some concerts during summer weekends but it was nicely quiet during our stay.
Spent a lovely weekend at Hastings House in early Sept. 2011. The grounds (including an original sculpture garden) were beautifully manicured with an abundance of flowers & fresh herbs in bloom. Our room was comfortable and cozy. The restaurant, featuring Chef Marcel and an expansive wine list are a real treat not to be missed!

The resort has lost its elegance and the service is absolutely terrible! The front desk women is extremely rude.
"""Lovely place with many personal touches that add to a wonderful, personalized experience. Although the food was excellent, the price value relationship falters unless you have a generous budget."""
Swiss Chef Marcel really knows how to cook! He creates wonderful dishes with a clear emphasize on the taste - everything is prepared freshly and it is know how and passion what stands behind each course - wonderful! The rooms of the hotel need some upgrade but the location itself is outstanding, so come for a romantic weekend or just to have a great food & wine experience.
Hastings House has emerged from a stuffy pretentious past and is now an interesting relaxed place for an excellent meal in nice surroundings. Lots of local ingredients, an excellent wine list and an interesting menu. Go early so that you can stroll throug
Leaning toward the pretentious, Hastings House fails to live up to its billing. The food is good and the use of local produce commendable.
This is a classic and one of the best country inns with excellent dining in a small country village setting. The hardest part is getting there unless you come aboard your own boat to this charming island village.
Very overrated. There are other places that serve better food for less money. The setting, however, is fantastic.
From the knowledgeable sommelier to the perfect food execution to the loveliest "English" setting one can imagine, sublime is the only description for dining at this fabulous establishment.
The Hastings experience is the best of the best. It's a dream, the food superb, the environment warm & old world, the service unbelievably fine. It you can afford real luxury, do it! Marcel, the chef, is a master!
