Ontario's hidden outdoor recreation, education and entertainment gem.Haliburton Forest and Wild Life Reserve Ltd., or simply Haliburton Forest, is a unique, privately owned forest located on 70,000 acres of rolling hardwood forests, beautiful lakes, meandering rivers and extensive wetlands in the Haliburton Highlands of central Ontario, 3 hours north of Toronto. An outdoor lover's paradise,... more
This is not actually a zoo, it is a sanctuary..much better and different then a zoo, in my personal opinion.
I went on my trip to Haliburton this summer and I had a blast, I did not want to leave the sanctuary. It is a really neat place to learn about wolves and debunk the stereotypes the general society possesses when it comes to these animals. The staff members were friendly and so...

The treetop canopy walk was lovely, and not too strenuous for us middle-aged people. No fear of heights in our group, and honestly with the amount of safety rigging I can't see how anyone could fall.
Even just hiking in to the wooden platforms was fun. And the history of the Reserve and its logging activities was fascinating. I think...

We visited here last Fall for the Canopy "Walk in the Clouds". I highly recommend this activity.
We toured the other activities (Wolves) and trails. All was wonderful.
We did not stay here overnight. I looked rather too rustic for me.
What a great opportunity to view wolves in their 'natural' environment up close. Although it wasn't a feeding day when we visited, the guide advised us that he had to go and remove some frozen meat from the storage area for a future feeding and if he made some noise the wolves may think it is feeding time and come... more
A friend invited me up to have a look at the accommodation. She wasn't there, but I paid for a day pass, and drove around some of the Reserve. It is a stunning location and a very interesting story behind it. The size of the place is incredible. The lakes are crystal clear. Yes I'd like to summer there!! And... more
We enjoyed visiting the Wolf Centre and taking the Canopy Tour. The guides were excellent and the experiences were unique. The accommodations were something else. The first alarming thing we saw upon checking into our cabin were signs above the faucets that advise you that the well water is not tested regularly. I don't know how the government can allow accommodations... more
We learned all about wolves. Glad they were out or it would not have been worth it. We saw them through one-way glass and got a good sense of their normal activity. The museum was good though the store was expensive.
The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. They answered all our questions and helped us uncover the secrets of wolves in wild. We saw real wolves in their natural habitat; watched an informative film on wolves; and enjoyed a colourful art exhibit on wolves. I highly recommend the Forest's Wolf Centre to families.
It's been a while since we've gone to see the wolves, and this time we took my husband's son (adult). It was a first-time visit for him, and he loved it. The pack has changed quite a bit since we last visited. Now 1 adult male, 4 adult females, and 4 pups. They were all out, mostly sunning themselves, but... more
I want to write a fantastic review and give 4 stars but I'm kind of torn. I visited Haliburton Forest primarily for the Canopy Tour. I wasn't really sure what to expect and based any of my expectations on their website and a few reviews on Trip Advisor....so I wasn't questioning the $95.00 price tag that went with this expedition.... more
We went to the Haliburton Forest and Wild Life Reserve primarily for the tree canopy tour, although we had time to squeeze in a short visit at the wolf centre.
First of all, the wolf centre consists of many windows observing the reserve. The staff keep logs on the wolves activities and sightings that visitors can read. There are some...

Let me start off by saying the scenery was beautiful. However...........very noisy beds, cant move in them without waking everyone up. Had 2 mice in our cabin which were caught with mouse traps in our bathroom. A four hour power outage that was apparently scheduled, but not communicated to guests. In room TV was not much bigger that an 8"... more
I took my daughter today on a half day dog sledding tour. we couldnt ask for a better day, our guide Luke was amazing. He made us feel very comfortable answered all our questions and made sure our safety and the dogs safety were number 1. We cannot wait to go back and do this again. The dogs were so... more
My wife and I,accompanied by her mother, visited that establishment the first weekend in march and stayed 2 nights in the “cambosse #1” unit. The highlight of the weekend was the Sunday afternoon dog-sledding and our two guides Pete and Kim-they were outstanding so made for a very enjoyable and memorable experience-our first time dog-sledding.We also enjoyed the wolf center-another first.... more
We went to the Wolf Reserve and it was amazing. The wolfs were SO close, one was literally scratching on the window, we got such a close-up view. Definitely worth it. Would recommend to everyone! The staff was very knowledgeable and it was very interesting hearing them talk about each wolf.
Yesterday we had the pleasure of going dog sledding in haliburton forest. It was incredible. The dogs were so beautiful and the guides were very nice and knowledgable. You could tell that everyone who worked there really cared for the dogs which was very important to us. We did the introductory tour but IMO it was the perfect length for... more
We (group of friends) decided to drive the 2-3 hours in "scary" weather (we would later be hit with the ice storm of Toronto) to go dog sledding. I'm so glad we did and even more happy we got back to Toronto before the worst of the storm hit!!!
The dogs are gorgeous and each have their own personality. I...

I biked through Haliburton Forest a couple of times many years ago. I decided to go back with a group of friends and stay a few nights in the Boiler Room. This is the first time I have ever stayed in a "log cabin" and was excited. In fact, the idea of sleeping in the loft (all 10 of us)... more
I never knew wolves could be so fascinating! This is definitely worth a trip; there is so much to be learned - particularly about the positive aspects of wolves. You can view them up close in natural habitat via a one way window, and the staff members are very well informed and can address most any question you may have.... more
Excellant, educational and interesting, we went to the Wolf center and did some hiking also. This is a great place for everyone, all ages.the bathroom in the wolf center is down a flight of stairs, I am not sure if they have any accessible facility.
Just came back from a weekend stay in Haliburton. We did the Canopy Tour again and visited the Wolf Centre again. We feel such a bond with the Wolves and it is a full day of fun always. Even though the weather was not cooperating at first with heavy down pours. By the time we finished our Wolf Centre visit,... more
My husband and myself just returned from 2 nights camping in the Haliburton Forest on Minna Lake #4. It was a great place to camp for those of us who are not intense camping people. It was a 15 minute drive to Base camp (nice in that our campsite was far off the beaten path, but a bit far of... more
This is a wee shop in west Guildford on the outskirts of haliburton forest and is fab. It's like Aladdins cave and the person who runs it, pat is a treasure. You won't regret visiting for your souvenirs so much to choose from and great value for money. Take a wee detour and visit this place you won't be disappointed!
This centre which is a 13-acre reserve for wolves is very interesting and the staff really know their stuff. We spent a wonderful hour there looking at the exhibits and learning about wolves. I would definitely recommend this- especially for families not used to the wild and to learn that wild animals do not = a petting zoo.
Went to the Wolf Centre to try dog sledding. OMG!!! I had such a great time. This was one of the best Xmas presents that I have ever received. Dog sledding through the forest was so spectacular. What a rush. This is something EVERYONE has to try at least once.
Brilliant time! Weather was pretty bad on the way up so I was the only one that turned up and ended up going out just me and Dave the guide on two sleds. Was wearing too many clothes so running up some of the hills was heavy going in the 4 in of powder that they had that morning, but... more
we went for the half day dog sledding tour and it was amazing. Our guide Kim was friendly, enthusiastic, and very knowledgeable. The trails were gorgeous, and other than 1 really large hill it was reasonable for first timers.
We rented one of the cabins on the property and were pleased. it was small and outdated, but clean. Our only...

If you only do this once in your life, it'll be worth it. The experience - from the start, as some of the hundreds of dogs in the Forest are harnessed - until you arrive back at base and are escorted through the kennel homes of these beautiful (and friendly) animals, is first-rate. The guides are knowledgeable and willing to... more
A great place to stretch your legs with lots of walking trails and wildlife. The fall colors of the trees were spectacular.
GO and see the wolves!!! a really great trip for family and kids to see these amazing creatures in a natural enclosure.
Although they are wolves, they are completely harmless as all of them have been raised in captivity for their protection and of the species in general....still... amazing to get to see all of them
We have been to this wolf reserve several times. What you can expect is to see wolves at extremely close range in their own environment. You are separated by reflective glass and are housed in the centre. Both times we have gone have been in the summer and there have been young pups to see. Once we saw a bird... more
i didn't realize the wolf centre was on tripadvisor or i'd've certainly left a review long since! we brought my daughter, then 5yrs old (she's nearly 6 now) and it was just wonderful. the hands-on activities were great - she wasn't too certain about the mounted exhibits but she really liked all the touchy-feely stuff while i had fun with... more
We visited the Haliburton Forest last February to do some snowmobiling and had a great time. We stayed in one of the on site rooms and it was functional and clean. We ate each night at the on site restaurant and the food was very good. We have booked again for the upcoming season and are looking forward to it.
We had a great time exploring the trails. Not sure about the classification of some of the trails - some moderate seemed extreme whilst other moderates wide & gentle & very easy. However it was a great day & very good to improve bike handling skills!
The walk in the clouds tour is amazing! The wolf reserve is very interesting. Visiting the sled dogs was fun.
The reserve was nicely constructed for the wolf pack.
Unfortunately, the day before we went, they fed the wolf so they were not active (We were there for a good hour and didn't see any wolf). So it would be good idea to call ahead and ask if the wolf are active before going.
Check out the Canopy Tour! 1/2 km of treetop trail. I'm afraid of heights and survived to tell the tale! Visit the wolf pack while you are there. Unique and memorable!
I arrived early to visit the wolf center, and was surprised to learn so much about this pack of untamed wolves from the knowledgeable staff.
Then, it was on the canopy tour, which was fascinating and exhilerating. To get there, we took a ride in a van, followed by an enjoyable paddle up a remote lake, then a hike up...

We did the Walk in the Clouds Canopy Tour and loved it! Our guide Willow was very knowledgeable and we really enjoyed "walking in the clouds". Well worth the $ 95 which including entry to the wolf viewing. I like this better than ziplining because you can go as slow as you want and enjoy the scenery!
Displays very life like, lots of information. I am in a wheelchair so trails were a bit rough...also too hot that day.
washroom trip was eventfful as my Husband had to assist me and there were still ladies coming in to washroom
We took our 8 year old son, whose favourite animal is the wolf. I had read the reviews on tripadvisor and new what to expect. Although the wolves have 15 acres or so to roam in, it is an enclosure and they are fed at the viewing platforms (although the staff did say if anything manages to get into their... more
Just a georgious area with tonns of bikeing and hiking trails, etc.
It is just an amazing setting and in the fall when the leaves change colour it is simply beautiful.
Well worth the visit, seeing the wolves interacting with each other.
This place has something for everyone that enjoys the outdoors. Whether you like to ride a bicycle in the summer or fall or snowmobile or fourwheel in the winter. You can learn about the stars, the trees and flowers and even take up birdwatching. If you ever wanted to talk to experts about wolves and see them up close in... more
It is very interesting to understand the pack dynamics and the personalities of the wolves. Thanks to the HFWLR team for their private support of nature and the wildlife.
We are regular visitors to the wolf centre. It is very nice to see the pack evolve over time. Staff is always very enthusiastic, pleasant and willing to tell nice stories about the wolves.
We participated in the Walk in Clouds. I have to admit I was scared stiffless for the first 2 minutes - but then the beauty of the walk far above the forest floor distracted me. The staff were really outstanding
We liked the informed staff who escorted us on a pricey( $95 per person), but still good value, "Canopy Tour". You needed to reserve in advance as the groups were kept small. We all piled into a van and drove into the forest to a spot where they stored the climbing gear. After a good briefing we climbed up and... more
Very, very affordable Grey Wolf Reserve and small museum and excellent educational centre with films and friendly, trained staff on hand to answer your questions.
