This is one of my favourite places to eat in Edmonton. They even have a full vegan menu if you ask for it. The first time I are here the chef himself came out to ask how the food was. Great service, delicious food + VEGAN friendly!
After driving past and deciding on a whim to try Guru, we were told at the entrance that there would be a half-hour wait. The restaurant was so beautiful and smelled so amazingly tempting, though, that we decided to wait, bellies rumbling in anticipation.
It was worth the wait. Guru's menu is brief and offers the basics, which is usually a good indication of an ethnic restaurant's quality -...

Chicken saag at lunchtime, fantastic spicing, perfect portions. A bit pricey... Definitely going back!
Recently had dinner at Guru's for the first time. Went with my boyfriend for my birthday and was not disappointed!
I had Kofta Curry and it was delicious. If I were to be very picky, I'd say it was a bit too spicy for my taste and I wish they would have asked my preference in spice level. I am not shy when it comes to spice and still found it too spicy; It was good regardless, though. My...

My aunt and uncle were in town and wanted to go somewhere nice for dinner. It was our first time as well but we had heard good things. I was easily able to make a reservation for 4 on a Saturday for that same evening. When we arrived it wasn't too busy yet but still a bit early at 6pm. We were shown to a nice private dining area that had about 5 or 6 tables. It was nice because it was away from... more
I have only limited experience with Indian food, but this is easily the best of what Edmonton has to offer. The butter chicken($20) was incredible, saffron rice ($7) was perfect, and the naan bread was soft and fresh. Portions are generous, I was much too full to order dessert. The restaurant is decorated beautifully, and the service was fast. A little on the expensive side but definitely a cut... more
Amazing food, great service. Extremely impressed with not only how wonderful the staff are, but how quickly the food comes. Plus the quality is always there in spades. Would recommend to everyone! Slightly pricey, which is why I gave 4 stars, but the food is well worth the price.
My son and I went to Guru for lunch, this is a classy restaurant with fancy decors, and a nice place for good date, but not for a simple lunch and you better prepare to spend.
The cost of dish does not come with rice or nana bread, you have to order separately and small portion of coconut rice or Naan bread with extra charge.
Don't get me wrong, the food taste good, I am a coconut and curry...

delicious indian cuisine but it ain't cheap so be prepared to spend some money. It is best to have reservations or you probably won't get a seat. Limited restaurant hours.
Order of rices aren't that huge so becareful how you divide it between your party because each dish of rice is a bit pricey so do not order so much just portion it among your party evenly and fairly. And do not eat so fast,...

Omg. Omg. Omg. What an amazing place to eat. I have never been so satisfied with a meal. Guru is the place to go if you are looking for delicious Indian cuisine. Firstly, the service was superb. Our servers name was Kevin (ask for him, he is great) and I couldn't have been more pleased. From the moment we walked into Guru till we left he made sure we were taken care of, but it definitely wasn't... more
I ordered from the lunch menu, which includes about 8 vegetarian and non- veg options. The portion size was adequate. Even though I asked them to spice up the dish to a 7 out of 10, it was not very spicy. As someone who loves Indian food and eats it regularly, I can say that the food was good but not great, except for the naan bread which was really fresh and buttery. Overall it was not worth... more
The food is more to the tastes of its target clientele. Not served piping hot either. That excludes me for sure, especially considering the prices. Somebody here does not know how to setup WiFi; I had to hack it a bit to get it working.
Came here tonight for the first time mainly because of their vegetarian options.
On a Saturday you really need to make reservations or else you have to wait for a long time. I was seated after 20 minutes.
The interior is classy, menu isn't cheap.
I had their Lentil Stew (can't remember the proper name), and roti bread. The stew was excellent and very tasty, although a tad small portioned for...

Not sure how the Indian food scene is in Edmonton but this place was pretty impressive.
Parking is plentiful around the building.
The interior is classy for sure with lots of dark wood. The staff were friendly and professional, though the service wasn't often enough.
For drinks, I would highly recommend the mango lassi. It's a yogurt-based smoothie, and it is freaking good.
For appies we...

Excellent food options. Loved the lamb vindaloo. They made it extra spicy per my request. Fabulous service. If I lived in town, I would definitely come back!
I'd give it 5 stars if they had healthy vegetable-based sides. All the options are fried or served in entrees.
Went to Guru for the first time for a late Saturday lunch. We had a Groupon coupon to use so we figured we'd better use it before it expired! The decor is very classy and definitely a great place to impress a date or for a special dinner. I liked how they had a small patio outside with some trees for shade/cover part of the 170 Street traffic.
Anyways, on to the food (duh). We ordered three...

There are dozens, if not hundreds, of places to get butter chicken in this city. Guru has the best by far. Creamy, rich, rosy and loaded with BIG chunks of chicken breast. The naan is pillowy and warm; all the better to dip with.
Guru is the first Indian restaurant I've been to in Edmonton that isn't buffet-style, and I really appreciated the effort that went into presentation (because, let's...

Came here for dessert and tea after a truly disappointing lunch at Sherlock Holmes Pub at West Ed Mall (see review). My friend and I ordered a pot of Chai and Coconut Naan... and shared with the host and our server our awful lunch story. They were kind and funny and offered to make us "chocolate naan", which is not on the menu, but is their most popular dessert - even having to "ask for it".... more
Guru was our destination for our anniversary dinner. We had Indian food at our rehearsal dinner four years ago, so it seemed fitting. Guru is a high-end Indian restaurant serving gourmet Indian cuisine. We found the whole Guru experience to be outstanding, from the exception service to the delicious food.
And let's talk about the food. We started with cocktails from the bar (my partner's...

For my first time going there, I would say it was quite nice...well the food anyways...portion sizes were quite nice...had the butter chicken wrap and I must say it was very tasty and I was nicely satisfied at the end of it.
One thing that wasn't so great was the waitress we had...at the end of it we needed change from a 20$ and she asked us if we either wanted the change back first or how...

OK. So. I liked it. But...
...I didn't fall in love with it, especially not for the price. Maybe we didn't order the "right" things -- veggie samosas, saffron rice, garlic naan, lamb curry and beef vindaloo -- but it was only "all right" to me.
Don't get me wrong, the naan bread is probably the best naan I've ever had. Ever. I also really enjoyed the veggie samosas and the presentation and...

Went to Guru for my husband's birthday last night and overall it was a very mixed experience.
Starting with the bad. Our server, to put it politely, was kind of an idiot and incredibly inattentive for how empty the restaurant was. I know some people are not meant to be servers, myself being one of them, but please just do your damn job correctly. For example
- do not bring the bill before you...

The food here is amazing. If you're at all a fan of Indian cuisine, you owe it to yourself to give Guru a try. Their butter chicken is definitely among the best I've had, and the naan bread is pretty good too, although the garlic naan was a bit crunchy for my liking.
The service was excellent. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive and didn't make any mistakes with our orders. In addition...

Its such good food...I absolutely love their butter chicken and naan. Its so delish!
I had been recommended Guru by several people, so I decided to book my office Christmas Party here. It was a big hit, and despite the fact that some of the guests do not have overly exotic palettes, it was appreciated by everybody!
Working with Jeet to organize the dinner was a great experience. He set us up in a private room that was very quiet, intimate and comfortable. There were ~11 of us...

Guru is serious Indian food made with taste, quality and an appreciation for the aesthetics of plating. I came here with a friend. I had a $40 groupon that I had to use up, so why not - I thought. We went with two orders of kababs to start. One was the adraki seekh kabab or in layman's terms a minced beef kabab flavored with ginger. The other was a chicken breast kabab flavored...

Went to Guru for the first time last Sunday. The atmosphere was very nice and our server was great! Had the vegetarian samosas to start and they were delicious especially with the tamarind sauce. The fresh... more
I tried out this restaurant the other night with my husband. My first time trying Indian food. The experience was great! The staff was friendly and the service was great. We even had the chef come out and talk to us with some suggestions for our next visit on how to pair some of the dishes together.
I will definetly be back!
I went to Guru a little while ago, but totally procrastinated in writing a review for it. So I am finally writing one now. I was meeting a friend for lunch and the place was really quite, meaning there were not too many people. Walking in I felt a little out of my comfort zone because the place looks so high end. If the deco don't make you feel like you are in a high end restaurant than the... more
Guru is a different kind of Indian restaurant. Instead of offering the usual all-you-can-eat buffet with an a la carte menu, Guru offers gourmet meals thought up and prepared by an executive chef who obviously takes a lot of pride in his work. The lunch menu are combo plats that include naan bread, vegetables, and rice, while dinner is totally a la carte.
We stopped in for lunch. After...
