With the refurbishments complete, the Grand is sparkling. We had a lovely evening, found the seats comfortable and good value.
This is a very nice venue with a (perhaps overly) cozy lobby. Keep in mind, of course, that the main draw is the concert/performace/play and not the venue, but if you find something of interest, the Grand is a good place to enjoy it.
We went to "The Grand" last sat. night to see "Whitehorse" & found it very enjoyable. This time, we had seats in the orchestra section. The seats here had lots of leg room & were very comfortable. The staff are friendly & it was a good show. The last time we were there we were in the upper level -not... more
I have been to the Grand a few times now since the City spent all that money on a major renovation. The venue is great, with the exception of the terrible cramped seating, in all areas except the balconies off to the sides. Even people of average height will find their knees hitting the back of the seat in front,... more
Can see everywhere. Still has the small theatre atmosphere where you feel you can almost touch the performers .Comfy seats. The ushers are volunteers and are very friendly and helpful. Just a fun experience.
Take a look at the Grand's show list... it has some of the most exciting and diverse presentations. Professional Music, ballet, comedy, poets and writers plus local productions.
Since the new renovation has been completed the Grand Theatre is wonderful. I just wish it didn't lose so many acts to the KRC which may seat more people but is just a hockey rink and the acoustics are awful, so a band that cares about how they sound more than how much they make should prefer the Grand.
A good variety of programs to choose. After the renovations, Grand Theatre is very comparable to other cities theatres. Very clean, and the staff are very helpful.
Frontenac PP, approximately 45 minutes north of Kingston is one of the nicest wilderness parks in Ontario. The park is threaded with hiking trails, all quite difficult due to the rugged Canadian Shield terrain, but well worth it for the experienced hiker. Check out Frontenac's website for the Frontenac Challenge series of hikes through the park in September and October.
the place is stuffy and the staff unfirendly.
went to a tribute concert here and we were told repeatedly not to get up and clap or dance or sway to the music - how dumb is that, isn't that why you go to a concert?
The venue is gorgeous - they have donbe a great job of restoring it but...

This proved to be the right venue for the recent Bowfire concert. The theatre and public rooms were adequate for the crowd, and it was easy to mingle with other attendees in the public spaces.
The sight lines were excellent and the acoustics good. Leg room in the balcony was a problem and the sound mixing sometimes overemphasized the percussion....

I recently attended a musical event at the Grand. It was excellent. Volunteer staff assist with seating, a small bar is available at the interval and the whole venue is pleasantly decorated and clean. Acoustics are fine and downstairs seating is comfortable, offering excellent views from all areas. One major word of warning though. Anyone larger than a toddler will... more
Concerts at the Grand are always great acoustically. Not a bad seat in the house, but up front is the best, seats are comfortable.
Completely refurbished. Good acoustics. Offers a wide range of performing artists in dance, choral singing, acting, and music. Because of its proximity to Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, Kingston hosts acts on tour from all over the world, which often stop here for one performance. Refreshments at intermission, parking out the back door..
I truly love the Grand and the selection of shows. Though somewhat small of a theater, the view from all seats is great. I like the options of shows and the refurbishment of the theater is nice.
How could so much TAXPAYERS money be spent on such an uncomfortable / inaccessible Public place for the ARTS.
Most unfortunate investment that fails to provide the Community with "OPPORTUNITIES" for Presentations / Parties / Amateur use
We attended a performance a week ago and while the show was well done I found the seating very uncomfortable.
We sat in the balcony and found it impossible to sit straight up without our knees hitting the chair in front of us. I was not alone in my observation as several other patrons were also making comments as to...

Saw Kathleen Edwards here September 2012. Acoustics were amazing. Checked sound and sight lines from downstairs and balcony, and ended up in a box just above and off the stage. Not a bad seat in the house. Also, as a taller and larger than average man (6'3" and maybe 230lbs) I was REALLY pleased with the legroom afforded in the... more
Great local volunteer community theater. The production of "Bedroom ??" was hilarious. I laughed for two hours!
The seats are great. The theater is clean and comfortable. The acoustics were great. The price was right!!
Thanks to all who volunteer to put this on. Do not miss a Domino Theater performance.
This beautifully restored theatre is well worth a visit. The seats are comfortable. The theatre is big enough to accommodate a good number of people but small enough to provide intimacy during a concert. We really loved the evening we spent there. If you ask nicely, one of the volunteers will probably show you the angel they uncovered during the... more
we did not see a show there, but were touring for open doors Kinston. We very much look forward to seeing a show there, as it looked to be a wonderful venue!
Some of the shows are a little pretentious, others a bit risque, but this is a solid institution with many very fine productions to its credit. The venue is quite well equipped: good acoustics, elegant lobby and comfy seats.
The Grand Theatre has two venues: A large auditorium and a smaller and more intimate 80-seat room. Both are good, for different purposes. The large auditorium hosts musicals, visiting musicians, comedians, and other large-scale shows. The smaller one has more intimate, and often experimental, theatre. Sight-lines are good; the shows vary, so take a look at what's on and choose... more
It doesn't seem to make a difference WHAT you see here, the place is so beautiful, it is worth a one-time visit. You'd never know from it's unpretentious, street view what a surprisingly spectacular interior awaits!
My husband and I have seen Jill Barber in concert here and the Vogue Fashion show presented by Queen's students, it was recently renovated and it is a very classy place to go for a night out; prices are reasonable.
After a lengthy and expensive rebuild, the Grand can now stand proudly as an exciting venu for even some very exacting productions.Unfortunately, ticket prices have risen rather dramatically over the years, which makes one rather more selective in their choice of attendance.
The Grand Theater in Kingston, Ontario is a sort of cultural institution in its own right. It was built originally as an opera house and has been remodeled and rebuilt several times since. The modern but unassuming entrance belies the spacious period Rosen Auditorium and Baby Grand black box theatre inside.
