This is a solid 3 star "workhorse" hotel. It gets a lot of heavy use from groups, conventions etc. As a result you will see signs of wear and tear.
Having said that it gets the job done and is one of my go to hotels in Montreal. It's an overall great combination of price, value and location.

Reading the reviews after booking the hotel, we were a bit concerned. I am happy to report that our stay at a very busy time (Jazz Festival) was excellent. The hotel is very upscale. Nice impeccable design, and perfect rooms. A mall is down stairs for your every whim groceries and restaurants. But for over 100$ well you cant avoid a price like that in Montreal but still expensive. Over all great hotel.

Parking was nearby, but was kind of a pain. Staff was helpful. Bed was very comfortable, bathroom was out dated. I wouldn't say that they paid attention to detail as far as cleanliness. Have been going to Place Dupuis for years and I love this place. Location is amazing with the metro Berri Uquam right under it!

Party destination hotel and rooms show the wear

Rooms are allegedly non smoking but smell like ashtrays. Mattresses sag in the middle--I spent the worst two nights trying to sleep. I did not dare get out my mat to do yoga on the carpet in our room because it looked so bad. For $160 dollars at conference "deal" was absolutely no deal.

Had a wonderful experience here. Great view from our room, nice and friendly staff. Great location and price, nice pool area, would definitely stay here again when in Montreal! They upgraded us to an executive suite which was very much appreciated, thanks everyone for making Montreal fun again!

Our stay at the Gouverneur was a relaxing and pleasurable one. The location was perfect in Downtown Montreal, very convenient to the Metro, Place Des Arts and shopping on St. Catherine. The staff was very attentive and made excellent recommendations for finding local cuisine.

Good, but not up to par with the hotel chain

I got a queen-size bedroom on 10th floor. Got a good deal off of Hotwire.
The room is just clean enough not to go ballistic. But, it could be alot better. The ammenities, such as bath, toilet, sink are somewhat old, but funtion good enough.
On a normal purchase, this room shouldn't be rented out for more than 100$.

I like the inside the room. It's cozy and warm. One thing they should offer is refrigerator. It's not very convenient for me not having a refrigerator in my room. I would definitely go back to this hotel. Considering the reasonable pricing and it only being 3.5 stars, the lobby was nice and the checkin and checkout service was very quick. OK Value - slow internet connection

The hotel is a little dated and the complimentary breakfast is basic but for $16 more you can add a buffet breakfast. McDonalds across the street would be less expensive. The room was clean and tidy but our main complaint was the slowness of the internet connection. Dial up would have been faster!

Stayed twice in March. Both times were without incidence. Room was very clean and bed was very comfortable. The breakfast buffet is over the top with delicious food and fresh fruit which kept me full til I got back to Texas. Great Location!

A very comfortable stay located adjacent to the Gay Village. Easy walk to Eaton Centre, Old Port, and restaurants of St Denis. Two caveats: The blocks immediately surrounding the hotel are "colorful" (pretty sketchy) and the rooms are in desperate need of renovation. Perfect location and value.

The location is excellent and the price is very good at around $100/night. The hotel does feel like it needs a renovation. Old carpets and furniture, a few stains. I didn't feel that it was dirty, just dingy. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat because the price and location are hard to beat.

The location is good. The hotel staffs are friendly. But the facility is really outdated. You could really feel everything in the room had been there for many years.

Used to allow smokers inside the hotel, therefore lots of former smoking floors and rooms which still smell smoke. For non smokers it is quite annoying. Price is quite expensive. No LCD TV (just old TVs)

Very rude reception staff, room smelled extremely musty...so much so that we went out and bought a glad plug in. Furniture and bathroom look like its from the 80s...very outdated. I recommend you do not stay here. Spend a little more and avoid disappointment. Not worth it even if your getting a deal.

They gave my room away even though I stopped by at 10 am to try to check in. I told them that I would return only after 11 pm. We got stuck with a single room and cot that took over an hour to get to the room ..... and the sheets were just tossed on the cot (fix it yourself attitude). They also said they would give us a free breakfast that turned out to be a free muffin and coffee .... plus

Don't stay here until they somehow pull off a major renovation. Good news - they just went smoke-free. Bad news - the place will forever smell like 30 years of in-room smoke. Stayed here for the race and I'm not sure you can get a better location. The metro is 2 minute walk from the lobby door and it is one stop from the track - no transfers needed. Made getting to and from the track a breeze.It's also on St Catherines so there is a ton of stuff to do. Metro access is great for going out at night. Major Grand Prix Weekend Rip Off

For $350 per night (4 nights) a 4 star hotel, really?. Had a room on the 15th floor with a "view". Old small tube style TV, No microwave, no fridge, old beds, rocking toilet bowl, slow draining bath tub, mulfunctioning shower head, water hammer noise at random times. Nice view was obscured by dirty windows. Only saving grace was the location down town 2 minutes from the metro.

It was in the middle of a party scene area for night life. Lots of noise and pan handling. Would not stay again.

Needs to be updated the rooms are looking dated and walking around after 10 pm is not advised. I paid with Hotwire $65.00 per night but it would have been two double beds. I paid $20.00 more per night for a king with a view of drunk park. Cops look at them and they look at the cops. Still not bad place but not great.

Clean, Great Location

Just a few yards from the Berri-UQAM Metro station, and on the doorstep of Montreal's Village makes this an ideal location. Hotel is clean and safe, and the staff were polite and helpful. Good choice for visiting central Montreal.

I'm surprised this is considered a 4 star hotel. It was a nice hotel, but quite dated and could use some updating. The room was average. It took the water a while to get hot in the shower too. I did like the location though.

Mixed Bag

The good: great location. Prompt and efficient maid service. Superior room was good size. The bad: Needed a couple of tries with maintenance personnel (who were willing and helpful) to get room warm. Two comfortable armchairs but no reading light for either. The ugly: Mouse in dining room. And where else?

When I arrived I received an upgrade to the Superior Room. The Hotel is close to the train station, subway and gay village. Would stay here anytime again, actually I just booked my next trip.

Probably the best thing about this hotel is the location. It is within easy walking distance to some very good restaurants and the extensive Montreal metro system. The room was very comfortable with good quality bedding. The staff was also very accommodating.

Godd race HQ

We stayed here while attending the Canadian Grand Prix. The hotel is right over the metro, which s very convenient, but unfortunately it is not a very nice neighborhood - lots of vagrants and beggars. The hotel itself is very nice.

Comfortable and good location

Stayed at 28th floor with great view and very comfortable beds. Excellent breakfast. and kind staff. As we were tourists it was easy to reach our goals, close to the Tube station. Visited art museums and the botanical garden. Great experiences.

Excellent location

A little on the expensive side for us, but we had a great time. The location is excellent, and the hotel is great. There was a big group of high school kids with us, but we didn't really noticed it except of seen them in the lobby. Very quiet hotel. I will come there again.

Gouverneur Regular

My friends and I travel to Montreal a few times a year and always stay at the Gouverneur. Staff is always friendly and the location is perfect. Price is reasonable, sometimes you get a better deal than others, but I guess that goes for any hotel.

My son and I found this hotel online. I highly recomend the location. While the room was average the hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly. We had a non-smoking room with 2 double beds and a great view of the city. Parking was easy and room service was great!

we were able to walk to the Jazz Festival, the street right next to it, there was an art festival. Old Montreal is a short cab ride or a long walk. The back exit leads you to a shopping center/huge supermarket great value, met expectations. Negaitve: some bums were hanging out in the park opposite, the park seems to attract homless people.

We came to Montreal for gay pride. The hotel was perfectly located within a short walking distance. Service was excellent, and they weer very accommodating about maid service being in non standard hours.

A comfortable room..that needed updating and repairs

-The living area chairs were worn, -The back of the bathroom door was warpped and chipped from water damage -The city view was excellent but the window was "very" dirty -the room did not met my expectations of our previous visit

Recommend the Governeur Hotel Place Depuis in Montreal as clean hotel centrally located at a main Metro stop. Staff was courteous and helpful. Food in restaurant was terrific. Place Depuis is a small shopping mall with a foot court offering a good variety of choices. Only downside is the gang of homeless men who hang out by the garage entrance - they didn't bother us, but who needs that?... plus

Good location, close to the latin quarter, old Montreal and the main subway station.

A very nice hotel located on the edge of the village and the Latin Quarter, only a 15 minute walk to the Place d'Arts, and an easy walk to most downtown areas like Chinatown, Old Port, etc. The hotel has a small mall at one of the exits where a small grocery store, a wonderful bakery, several retail stores and fast food restaurants, with Metro access.
