Terrible place to shop. The staff are rude and arrogant. Try to return a defective item and they treat you like you`re a diseased freak. The place is very disorganized but the worst part is the very poor service. How can they still be in business is beyond me.
It's a long story, but you can read it here.
My experience with Europe Bound.

Bottom line, go to MEC.
Selection seems outdated and store is jam packed with merchandise, which is okay but get the sense that they advertise a massive sale is ongoing but don't really mark things down, except the junk. Would go to MEC instead for the more pleasant shopping experience, even if there aren't that many deals.
Visited store to purchase a tent-requested from owner if this item is reduced at end of season or if other tax equivalent discount-the owners tone was rude and dismissive. Left store to shop at MEC. Informed by others that people have stopped shopping there because of his rudeness with purchases and with returns
This place is an unorganized pig sty. The staff are arrogant and seriously unknowledgable in:
Customer service
Product knowledge
Product location
They will most certainly go out of business soon. There's no way a business can withstand continuous bad reviews.
C@!p! A retailer that provides credit notes on heat transfer paper is seriously f@!%!*g with you.
By every rational measure, Europe Bound is one of the weakest of Toronto's Outdoor Enthusiast stores. Oversized and understaffed, a shopper could probably take refuge in a display tent, unfurl a sleeping bag and survive for months on Cliff Bars and Gatorade without being disturbed by anyone who works there.
At least a quarter of the space is taken up by a ghost town of racks and displays for...

Great location to price compare with MEC, but the store is so poorly organized. I felt very overwhelmed and distracted looking for things.
Prices seemed to be about average for the offerings, but I doubt I'd go in here again. Small businesses really underestimate the customer's need for organization. I felt very uncomfortable amongst all the clutter.
The store is conveniently located across from MEC and often times offer the same products at lower prices.
Enter at your own risk because upon entering the store you'll feel overwhelmed since the merchandise is organized and scattered everywhere on shelves, racks and container bins with not much walking room. Seems like they're trying to cram everything into the store to cover every square...

I don't understand this store.
It's got so much high quality product in it. It's like a treasure chest of great stuff. It's got tall ceilings and second floor made of glass that doubles as the first floor ceiling and cool architectural cues. Upstairs it's a sea of North Face, Canada Goose and other brand name winter coats. Prices are reasonable. This place has so much potential to be cool it...

I have been on a shopping spree for winter (getting new boots, jackets etc) and being the researcher I am, I stopped by here last week. First of all the store is a mess, very disorganized, prices seem higher than the competitors on comparable products and they have a limited selection. Customer service is o.k but not great. What is great about this place is its across the street from MEC, so... more
I haven't shopped at Europe Bound before but wanted to review the great customer service by Danielle.
She was human - very patient, attentive and empathetic to my coat search. She provided similar options and information about each coat. She gave helpful suggestions such as trying on a sweater to see how layering affects the fit.
She tried other stores to get a size I wanted.
She gave me...

So many great choices; so little time! Excellent prices, awesome service, and all of best, newest ideas. When you need something in downtown Toronto, this is the store. I bought stocking stuffers for my girl!
Its actually laughable that anyone would describe the staff here as 'friendly.' I think the only job requirement necessary here is to be a miserable t@!t. Literally everytime I have come in here I've experienced nothing but awful service. There is one man specifically who is a real piece of work with a nasty attitude. The store is a mess and unless you're absolutely desperate I wouldn't bother.
I have the craziest Europe Bound experience ever. My girlfriend once forgot her jacket there. We called the staff to ask if anyone had spotted it. They claimed they hadn't see it. Eventually, certain it must still be in the store, she went to check. Walking around the store she found her jacket forsale; discounted of course, as it looked a bit dingy! Truly unbelievable. Welcome to Europe Bound... more
I don't know why people are so down on this store. They have quite a large range of things, and although they aren't organized and clean like MEC, they also sell things that MEC doesn't have.
The guy will also undercut anyone's prices on things, so just ask if you found it cheaper elsewhere.
I come here for travel adapters, RFID card sleeves, and all those things that people sell for $15...

I go here sometimes to get certain items that I can't get at MEC. My wife bought a winter jacket here recently and we had great service. The other day I stopped in and had this misfortune of dealing with the general manager. Within 30 seconds of our conversation I felt rather put off. Some of the sales people are really cool. However the GM made me not want to every spend another dime in this... more
The guys who work here are A-holes. don't bother. Go to MEC across the street.
Terrible customer service. I just called to inquire about photos for a visa and all I got was "Yeah, we do any kind of photo here." I ask for the price of the photos and I was told the address instead. I asked again. He told me. I said "Ok, thank yooou!" And he just hung up.
Great. That really makes me want to come in. After reading the reviews below, I see this is a regular occurrence. I...

Three years ago I went upstairs looking for a Canada Goose coat (not a cheap coat). The three young guys working there were in a huddle behind the cash, and for the entire time I was in the store, they spent talking loudly about: how can I say this delicately: their body parts and what they would like to do with them....I actually got so sick of hearing it that I confronted the three of them. If you are planning to purchase outdoor gear from Europe Bound, you might want to bring your water bottle and some trail snacks, because you may be in here for hours and hours.
This place does have all the outdoor gear you need, it just looks like it's been through a hurricane.
This place is a disaster.
Consider it a test for your tracking, navigation, and hunting skills.

I been into this store at least 6 times per year for the past few years. Whenever I visit Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) across the street, I think "let's give Europe Bound another try". And then I step into the store and realize that nothing has changed. But that doesn't stop me from taking a quick stroll around the store though.
Once you enter the store, you're met with a huge disorganized...

My go to store for all things outdoor is usually MEC, but Europe Bound is conveniently located across the street. There isn't much Yelp love for this place, which I don't understand, probably because I have not experienced the unhelpful customer service. In fact, I have experienced quite the opposite in all of my interactions with store staff.
Yes, the store is a mess, but it is packed with...

Had issues with the wrong price being quoted and being sent across the city for nothing... But that's not even the issue. I submitted a comment via their website and asked for someone to contact me 2 weeks ago and I haven't heard ANYTHING from them.
Useless. Over priced, messy stores, and terrible service. Go to MEC.
Update: The manager finally got back to me. After a weak apology, two weeks...

If you're claustrophobic I don't recommend coming into here.
This place has a lot of equipment but it's packed closely together and there's barely any room to breathe. It's not well organized and there are 2 levels, so it's 2 levels of really crammed things! There is only 1 way to get to the second level and it's via their stairs.
Now I would normally only give this place 2 stars BUT I have...

Neat freaks be warned - this place will send you into a panic attack! Having said that, the organized chaos of Europe Bound is, in my opinion, part of it's charm. I actually ended up here serendipitously, after realizing MEC closes at 7pm during the week (I'll never understand retailers that do this - EB is open until 8pm). I found the staff quite helpful and very willing to make educated... more
This places gives me an anxiety attack. Stuff piled up to the ceiling ... Half of it hadn't been touched since 1986, so watch out for floating dust bunnies.
The last time I was in there, the staff was busy, hiding behind the counter ... texting.
one of the worst organized stores I have ever been too. Hard to ruffle through everything in here to find what I want. after about 5 minutes of not finding what i am looking for I usually end up across the street at MEC. At least they know how to organize things into racks instead of a pile. The only reason they have deserve one star is because of the cheap (relative to other photo stores)... more
This is possibly the worst outdoors store I have ever been in. The staff are unhelpful and offensively rude. Why anyone would continue to shop here is beyond me, MEC is straight over the road with friendlier staff, better prices and a far more pleasant shopping experience.
Like others have said, this place has lots of stuff and hence good potential, but it's just such a mess that you have little hope to find what you're looking for. There organization scheme is by brand, and that's loosely adhered to. You might find exactly what you're looking for, but then again they may have exactly what you're looking for and you still not find it. This would be such an easy... more
I agree with all of the other reviewers (except the 4 star review of course). You feel defeated the moment you walk into Europe Bound because the store is just a bunch of completely disorganized stuff and the staff is completely unwilling to help.

Awful customer service. I bought an expensive coat there just a few weeks ago and they wouldn't let me return it. Said I needed the original tags. So I asked if I could exchange it for a warmer coat. A staff that would do NOTHING to help me out... more
Europe Bound has terrible customer service. I only subject myself to going here if I am leaving for a trip the next day and the product I need at MEC is sold out. Sleeping bags are usually better priced here and they do carry more brand names (I purchased my sleeping bag there).

I am a gear whore. Technical outdoor gear and clothing is a passion of mine. Whether it's for cycling, camping, kayaking, or just being out in inclement weather, I like to look for and buy gear to suit the purpose.

I agree with Matthew S. - it is a cramped, disorganized, mess of a store and whilst most of the staff are friendly, the owner does seems to be a bit grumpy.
Most smaller stuff I found in EB was 2 or 3 dollars cheaper than MEC and some more basic stuff (e.g lifejacket) is more likely to be found at a reasonable rate at EB ($30) than at MEC (cheapest was $80). But then again, the cheapest, best...

I think Europe Bound is great. I actually love that it's a mess in there. It's fun to go routing through stuff, you never know what you may find. It's almost like a garage sale. Every time I go to Mountain Equipment CoOp I feel sad for those poor souls I see walking into Europe Bound across the street. I feel like walking over to them to talk some sense into them. With a place like MEC across the street there is no good reason to set foot in Europe Bound.

This place is the unorganized, unfriendly, trashy version of MEC. Every single time I think it's a good idea to go in I totally regret my decision. Just a few things to think about....
1. If you are purchasing dried food packs at this store, make sure to look at the expiration dates.
I was considering purchasing a few but I picked up one or two that had expired, by A YEAR. With the over stocking of items in their store, I don't think they ever get rid of anything that is expired. I hesitate to buy an energy bar there if I ever need one....

Found a *great* pair of hiking boots here. A lot like MEC. Worth visiting both.
After finding out MEC has a $5 "membership" fee - i just wanted to buy a $0.50 toothbrush holder - it was great to be able to walk across the street to Europe Bound where no membership fee required.
