Great location. Great View. Old and Uncomfortable
August 12, 2014

We loved staying right downtown in Vancouver and loved our view from our room on one of the top floors. The hotel was very old and not well cared for. The room was tiny and the bed was hard and uncomfortable. I'm not sure what the thread count was on the bed sheets, but I've never slept on anything as... more

Very old hotel in the center of Vancouver Downtown. Convenience location. Walking distance from everything. However very old hotel and very old and small rooms. Airconditioner was broken but service came and fixed it quick.

For modern standards this hotel is poor, but not bad. The hotel has a promising name, but the rooms are ready for refurbishment. The carpets are dirty, the wall outlets are worn out so that your adapter will drop. There is also no free WiFi in your room. The bathroom is very poor and not clean. The tiles almost come... more

Great views and location
August 12, 2014

I stayed in a deluxe double with water views on the 39th floor. The room was slightly dated in decor, yet the spaciousness and view more than made up for it.
The location has plenty of walking access to restaurants and it's about a 20-25 minute walk to Steam town. Overall, I was very pleased with the hotel and it... more

Great Location with a Million Dollar View
August 12, 2014

It was our first time visiting Vancouver and a friend recommended this hotel to us, saying it was an affordable, decent but outdated hotel with a central location and after staying here, we totally agree. The first time I stayed in this hotel was 1978 when I believe it was still a Sheraton and it was a first class building. The revolving restaurant was THE place to see and be seen. I really liked this hotel. The location is fantastic, the rooms are spacious, with balconies, and there is a revolving restaurant on top (42nd floor). All at a down to earth price. I'll do the fast part of the review... Location wise, it's great. Right as downtown as one could want, and certainly easy walking to many restaurants, as well as Stanley Park, English bay etc.

We enjoy staying at this place. Stay on the 30th floor or above for a better experience. The Internet can get a bit expensive if you have multiple devices. On one trip we had a seagull living on our balcony. We enjoyed it and named him Jerry and fed him. However if you are the type of person who has no heart and/or hates animals I can see how you would not like that. All in all this is our... more

Staff and service received a 2 because it was New Year's Eve, and so the poor quality of service can be partly attributed to how busy they were.

That said, when I first checked in (a 20-minute process since they only had one of their three reception desks open... at check in time on "one of [their] busiest days of the year"), I noticed the air system making a continuous clicking noise, so I... more

Came here mainly because of the location, but then when arrived seen a few other options that seemed better.

Parking is not free, and isn't even clean at $15 a day. Half of the rooms are right in front of the elavator doors so people getting on and off will wake people up, not to mention the smells in the hallways.

The room is much smaller than the ones in the picture. The bed was like sleep... more

We were there for 5 nights and the A/C only worked one of those nights. It was a mild fall temperature outside (around 60 F), but we could barely sleep at night it was so hot in the room (around 85 F). We thought they fixed the A/C after the first night, but it was worse on the 2nd night, so we switched to a different room on a different side of the building that wouldn't get the morning sun.... more

A dingy hotel that charges per device for wifi. The building's architecture suggests it was pretty mod in the 60's, but the 80's remodel isn't even well done. Feels more like a cheap, depressing motel, except for twice times the price. Location and view are good. We paid $140/night in the summer, which was probably too much.

I wondered at some of the poor reviews. I actually think it's a nice hotel at a reasonable price. If you are fine paying $275 to $400 Canadian a night, then you probably want a four-star hotel in the real sense of the word. The customer service is good. The location, views, and overall decor of the hotel are really nice for the price. Because my business travel is budget-restricted, I sometimes... more

Definitely a home base kind of hotel versus a I want to live here forever kind of place. I was on the 28th floor, and the view of the bay was pretty. But I am afraid of heights and every now and again the thought of throwing myself off the balcony was pretty constant. I kept my distance from the balcony (despite the view). I have pretty low expectations of hotels, so....Room was clean, bathroom... more

noisy sliding glass doors on the 18th floor were rattling around in the wind, and it wasn't a particularly windy night. the water upstairs made a torrent-like sound in our room. the thermostat was hissing, even though the heat wasn't on. our expedia price was $150 CAD for a tiny room. not worth it. wouldn't stay again.

We were in Vancouver for a concert in Stanley Park. We chose to stay at the Empire Landmark because it is close to the end of the park where the concert was being held and we got a good price for our room on Expedia.

I agree with other reviewers who say the Empire Landmark is a bit dated. But, at the end of the day (or, beginning of the day, as the case may be), whether or not a hotel affords... more

The one word that you need to keep in mind is DATED! It is so dated everything from the small bathroom, shabby wall paper, balcony that needs to be cleaned and Samsung TV that has terrible sound and picture. At least it is a flat screen.

I honestly don't feel safe here. Have you ever seen the movie "The Towering Inferno"? That is all I was thinking about last evening when I was in bed.

Disappointed with this hotel. Good location. Poor services. Rooms need updating and all have paper-thin walls. Hallways are dark and dingy. Marginally clean and very noisy. With all the choices for hotels in Vancouver, stay in this one if price is the determining factor.

at $75 a night, the price is right for a hotel in a great location (robson street, 10 min walk to stanley park) with a great view.

I'm not into the whole luxury hotel with tip hungry doormen, valets, bell boys, concierges so this spot is all good to me, cause they don't bother you. it is pretty old and not the best looking rooms/furniture once you leave the lobby but the room was clean.

If the view doesn't work for you nothing will. It seems like you can see all of Vancouver from up there... being afraid of heights that little voice in my head was yelling stop are you crazy when I asked if they had anything higher... oh sure is the 33rd floor ok? This was our 2nd time to stay here at Empire Landmark Hotel. Very conveniently located near downtown shopping and restaurant area and walking distance to the Stanley park. Another part I like about this hotel is that it is super easy to spot our hotel from far away, hence, it is easy to get back to the hotel. The view from the room is always amazing, in the morning, at night, rainy or shine.

This is my first entry in Yelp and after my trip to Vancouver, I have a reason to Yelp.

I went up to Vancouver for five days/four nights, with my girlfriend, and thought the Empire Landmark Hotel would be a nice place to stay. The price was good, location was right, and the website made the interior look great. During the time we spent here, we found the front desk to come off a little rude... more

It was cool upon finding our hotel that it happened to be the tallest one. We saw it from the distance and got giddy as we got closer and closer because it was getting bigger and bigger. The parking garage is a must, like others have mentioned. the room was clean and the view was amazing. if it would end there, i would give it five stars, but unfortunately it doesn't.

the hotel's motto is, "a view with a room." well, we didn't get a view because it was foggy. we didn't see a thing because of the dense fog. so that really sucked.

perhaps they would have been able to redeem themselves with their service... but service was a little... more

Folks who live in Vancouver don't have much respect for the exterior of the tallest hotel in the city and I can't give it any stars for the poor architectural design. However, the slim profile offers every visitor a balcony with stunning views of the city. Try to get a room facing the northern exposures to see gorgeous views of Stanley Park and the mountains.

We lucked our and got a room with an amazing view of Stanley Park. Three stars because our room wasn't ready when we checked in and though the lobby is very nice, once you get to the floors with the rooms it looks just like a budget hotel: dirty and antiquated.
