We knew what we were signing up for

As the title says, we had very low expectations and the hotel lived up to them. The room had an odor and is very dated. I wouldn't say that there was anything good about the room but it provided us a place to sleep in a good location. Free parking was a plus. The hotel was packed so they must be doing something right. Overall, it served its purpose and the price was right.

I have never stayed in an Econo Lodge as bad

This was one of the worst places I have ever stayed at. I have stayed at other Econo Lodges before and could not remember an experience worse. The room smelled of smoke. My throat was sore the next day. The carpet was stained, the bed covering had holes. Overall would never stay there again, and absolutely would not stay in any Econo Lodge again after this experience.

Not the Hilton but it's downtown and cheap.

It is not the Hilton but it is cheap, it is right downtown and most importantly it has free parking. Hotel needs better upkeep

Room telephone was not working, connection was not restored till we left. Air conditioning was very poor - even with max setting room does not get comfortable till well past midnight.

Great Price, Bad Renovation

The price was great, but the place was kind of a reck. Though it appeared some effort to renovate had been made, the quality of work was very poor and the rooms (especially the bathrooms) were already deteriorating.

Good location, simple but clean.

Very convenient location close to Ottawa downtown core. Cozy but comfortable, clean rooms. We walked to parliament hill and enjoyed beer at a bar on the main shopping street. We feel that everything is within walking distance. This is most important for a visitor.

High Price for Low Quality

Room did not seem clean, although beds and towel were OK. There was a definite odour of smoke in the room even though I had asked for non-smoking....it was obvious that spray had been used to try to cover up the smell but it did not work effectively.

Very Friendly Staff

This place is a little run down BUT, to be fair, it was undergoing some renovations when we were there. I'm sure it's on the upswing soon. The room reeked of smoke even after the tiny bathroom window was left open to attempt to air it out. Decent place

Needed a clean, quiet room to sleep after a long day to get ready for an early morning start. It was not spectacular, but served its purpose. Two complaints: 1) the bathroom fan, which was tied to the lights, was excessively loud. I couldn't go to the bathroom without waking my fiancé. 2) no coffee packet for the coffee maker.

Budget and Clean

Was clean and hallway was under renovation. Room and bathroom was clean and comfortable however TV broke down. Old box style TV and they didn't have a replacement easily enough. Other than that for price, $75 a night was okay as close to Ottawa sites and Gatineau as well.

As of Nov-Dec 2013 it is under renovations (corridors are all naked concrete & unpainted dry-wall) so beware. Location is very good, close to the embassy district, lots of restaurants nearby.

Was disappointed with my whole experience. This hotel leaves a lot to be desired. I have been around the world in my 25years Air Force career but I have seldom seen a room and hotel as bad as this. The paint was peeling from the walls, the bath was dirty the furniture was worn out and there was little pressure for the hot water when t came (it took a while)

Truly, this Motel is not that bad. Yes, the breakfast is not exactly gourmet, but for the amount of money that you save, you can go somewhere else. It is close to everything downtown and you have free parking, you save again. It. Has clean rooms, coffee makers, microwave, and refrigerator.

Me and my boyfriend were here for 6 nights.

Spent most of our time seeing Ottawa. The rooms were ok, could be better without motel smell. There was a lot of road construction which made getting to a little difficult. Stayed here for one night. Friendly staff, and a decent continental breakfast in the morning. Rooms are tired and in need of a renovation. But for an overnight stay, and 80 dollar price tag, it did the trick.... more

Cheap and dirty

This place is 100 a night. No frills very basic old worn out room.
The bathmat was filthy, the soaps and shampoos are of the lowest quality.
The towels are paper thin and the house keeping don't clean properly.
All the furniture is old and worn out.
The hot water wasn't working.
The ice machine was broken.

Brutal. Just gross

Check in was smooth with very friendly front desk attendant. We got our room, it was on the 2nd floor and we had to lug all our stuff up a gross stairwell to the 2nd floor. Not a bad place to spend a night or two

We recently stayed at this hotel for one night. Located close to all attractions. Non-smoking room with 2 queen comfortable beds, very clean bathroom, fridge in the room, wi-fi . Continental breakfast was good.

Great Location, Great Value

We stayed at this hotel for four nights on our first ever visit to Ottawa. We didn't rent a car, but had no trouble getting to and from our chosen destinations. Great location and comfortable rooms

We were in Ottawa for two days and spent most of our time downtown. The hotel is very central and right on a bus route. Complimentary breakfast was great and all requests by maintenance/housekeeping were taken care of straight away.

Step Up From A Homeless Shelter

Checked in after driving in from Montreal. As soon as we got into the parking lot, my wife tells me she has a bad feeling. The lot was filled with trash. Checking in went well. The front desk attendand was nice and showed us how to get to the local attractions.

We traveled with our adult children and when we arrived, my son was worried about the neighborhood. Good value for money

Everything was as it should be in an inexpensive motel. Friendly reception, reasonably clean room, window air-conditioner, wireless internet, tv, fridge, iron, fan, breakfast (pretty simple though). The motel is close to the parliament hill (about 10-15 min walk). Would recommend and would stay again.

Econo downtown

Ok for a night, good location. Hotel is a little down.

The room was so so. What I did not like was that the floor was not dry enough since I wanted to take shoes and socks off. Bed making was good. Rubber mat in the tub was not clean. Air conditioning was noisy. Price was cheap just to fit to the equipment condition.

Overnighter Only

15-20 min walk to the main sights on Wellington & Rideau Streets; less by bus. Bus stop for 7, 12, 14 & 18 is 1 min from the hotel. Better breakfasts with fruit would have been great instead of cereals that are probably cheap or bland in taste.Have had better especially in the US part of our trip.

Adequate for my purposes.

Seemed to be for college and working class kids, wanting a place to stay near downtown Ottawa to party. Just verging on a rough part of town. Lots of beer bottles visible through the windows of some of the guest's rooms. Marginal conti breakfast. Starts at 7am, too late for anyone with serious business to do in the city. “I wasn't too happy the first night of our stay. The bed was hard. The pillows were soft. The noise of the other guests hanging out on the balconies kept us up. The room I was in was next to the stairwell and ice machine. Guests coming in and out, ice machine water valve kept turning on every 22 seconds and kept us up. No air conditioning, breakfast week, room was pretty run down. Internet (wifi) was great though.

“This hotel surpassed the one star. The cleaning staff was pleasant, our room was clean and it was close to the parliament buildings and the downtown area. The desk people were not as friendly as they should have been but were not rude. We stayed 7 nights and there was not a night that we lost sleep because of noisy guests. It was a pleasant stay.”

Convenient and clean

Very convenient location (5 min walk to downtown), plenty of restaurants and supermarkets around, bus near the entrance. Quiet, clean, friendly and helpful staff. Bad note: furniture a little worn out, 2 drawers broken, air-condition too noisy, wireless internet signal too weak and often loose the connection. About what you would expect for the price.
