I've been going here since I was a child, since you guessed it, I come from a long lineage of tall, blonde haired northern folk. I'm second generation Canadian, while my elders still manage to speak a great amount of Danish to each other.
The food is decent. Open faced sandwiches, cheeses, meats and pickled cabbage are what you'll mainly find. I think they've had the same staff for 20+ years...

I grew up in Calgary to a Danish father. We spent many a supper at this place, eating the "real" and "authentic" version of Danish food and listening to my dad talk with his Danish colleagues in the "mother tongue." Personally, I loved it. I love the old dishes and the flavorful foods. I love listening to the Danish, though... more
This is a private club so i don't think you can just walk in
However the food is beyond awesome. I think you have to know someone if you're lucky enough please try. The food is extraordinary
The Danish Canadian Club offers an amazing seafood buffet every Friday at lunch time. It is full of different types of herring dishes, many types of cold fish dishes including an excellent salmon, and different kinds of baked, poached or steamed fish depending on the day. The mussels are also a treat. Combine all this with attentive serving staff, a... more
Right off the bat, it's a membership club, so you have to be a member or come with one.
The DCC is a classic in Calgary. Our family has been members since the 1950s so I know the place well. The off-the-menu meals are always great but the Saturday Smorgasbord is the highlight of their culinary week.
Fantastic selection of...

Our family was invited to brunch during our brief stay in Calgary. We absolutely loved the buffet and tried every single item. Nothing short of ordinary which is what makes this place great. I am not Danish nor have I ever been but after having eaten their incredible selection of fish, salads, sandwiches and soups, I was impressed. The restaurant... more
We've visit the DCC for functions and for dinner as a couple. The service and the quality of the food is always impeccable. We particularly enjoy how the food is freshly prepared, clean and of good quality. The friendly, kind service is also greatly appreciated. You don't have to be a member to eat at the DCC. An added bonus... more
Friends who are members invited me to join them for dinner
We all decided to have the pasta special
The whole experience was something I do not wish to repeat.
I felt that we were being rushed. The tables were very basic and the cutlery was just placed on the table haphazardly
The Caesar salads were just almost thrown on...

I was lucky enough to be invited to the lunch/brunch at the Mermaid Inn (at the DCC) last Saturday. What a treat!
Some of our friends had the brunch -- which included many traditional breakfast items - as well as cold cuts, fish, cheese - and aebleskiver! The aebleskivers are excellent and worth a trip just for a plate of...

Having come from Denmark many years ago, I always try to stop here when in Calgary. First time for Saturday brunch. There is a nice assortment of typical Danish cold cuts although the assortment of breads was disappointing. The made to order omelletts were great. And where else can you get aebleskiver? Have not had since I was a kid.... more
Wonderful dishes that bring me back to my childhood! Outstanding value for the food that is prepared and served! We find it is such a treat when we go. Friendly and warm venue. Love it!
This place is very good.
Try the open faced shrimp sandwich. Delish!!
My family goes every year at Christmas for their Christmas dinner that is also very good. Our only request would be for them to offer a choice of soups to include the DCC clear soup and to have a choice to include cherry sauce for the rice pudding....

Not only fantastic Danish Fare, Great Buffet and One of the Best Burgers around. There is something for every one from A Super Seafood Buffet (on Fridays) to great Fish and Chips from the menu.
Unlike the review posted further down, you do not need to be a member to get in. The Mermaid Inn is a great place especially for their brunch on Saturday with fabulous rye bread, cheese, and cold cuts; a very western european breakfast! But they also have HUGE omlettes and the best of all aebleskiver! An inexpensive treat on Saturday... more
Folks, this is the Danish Canadian Club. So, if you're looking for a burger, or a pizza, or wings, you may want to look elsewhere. Further, set expectations in check. Danes are lovely people, and Denmark may actually be the very best place on earth. But, the cuisine reflects what is available in a northern climate. Fish, meat, potatoes, pickles,... more
The Danes are good at three things: producing good looking people, designing things, and making pastries.
When you first walk into the Mermaid Inn Restaurant, you'll see a bunch of well-aged, probably-were-very-good-looking-when-they-were-young, old Danes drinking and laughing. You'll also notice the decor... well, it doesn't reflect the Danish reputation. However, they make great pastries. I...

Who's Danish Canadian? This guy, right here!
I'm not going to go into a long examination of what Danish food is, because really, you won't get a feel for it by visiting the DCC. It's mainly fusion/comfort food, an amalgamation of gravy and meat. I do hear they do a nice Smørrebød, but I've never had it here.
What you will find is a bunch of old Danes drinking in what may be the most...

I love this place!
You may be thinking ... "Do I know anyone who is actually Danish Canadian?"
I don't lol.
You may be thinking ... "What is Danish food like?"
I still don't know and I've been here twice haha.
You may also be thinking ... "Will I be unwelcome at this place if I'm not Danish?"
No way man.
For dinner, there are also no danishes available. Or mermaids. I don't even think...

Saturday morning brunch in this place means custom-crafted omelets, an assortment of pastries, cold cuts, pate, blue cheese, fruit, hash browns, and the crunchiest, leanest strip bacon I've ever had. Always a good idea to phone ahead for reservations, and try to get in at 10:30AM when they open, because it can get very busy closer to noon. A terrific place to bring young children, they are very... more
Apparently trip advisor won't let me write anything 50 characters or less but the title says it all.
