Grace and Charm in Central Halifax. The Commons Inn provides a home away from home atmosphere within a short walking distance to Citadel Hill, water front, many great restaurants and US Visa office
Commons Inn is a relaxing, smoke-free inn located in one of Halifax`s peaceful residential areas. Still close to Halifax`s historic properties, business district, and entertainment venues, you`re close to all the fun but still can relax in a quiet neighbourhood. The Inn was built around the turn of the 19th century, and the decor reflects its historic past with the comforts of the modern... more
Friendly and very helpful staff; simple but nice breakfast (no eggs or bacon but freshly cut fruit, yoghurt, pastries, ...); the small room was in good condition and clean, and the shower was pleasant
This hotel resides just on the edge of respectable, it is faded and needs a complete overall. Access is via stairs only no disabled access visible, reception untidy, no tea or coffee facilities in the room, bathroom small and cramped.
Since there is no elevator, the gentleman at the front desk carried our luggage up the stairs for us. The room was clean if small. Breakfast was simple with good choices. Definitely not an accessible building for anyone who cannot do stairs.
Hotel needs decorating, new carpets, general update. Location was quite good, near a very good cafe. I would not stay there again.
Good value. Centrally located. Nice breakfast. Charming staff.
Stay here if you want to support local business and want to get a little closer to street level. Good pubs, local fare, theatre, dangerous sketchy feeling after dark. But the Halifax vibe is soooo laid back, even the thugs are nice! I could have got a place downtown at the Cambridge Suites on Brunswick for $7.00 more per night and as much as I like the idea of all that homegrown stuff, the... more
The mattresses were worn out and the head boards were resting between the bed and wall, and rattled against the wall whenever we tossed or turned. Had to run shower for 3-4 minutes before hot water turned hot. I wouldn't stay here again. There are better places in town for the same money.
Everything in Halifax seems over priced, but this gem is one I would return to. The front desk staff was knowledgable and friendly and it was a beautiful old building. The room we stayed in looked like it had been updated in the 90's, so it didn't have much historical charm. The location seemed a bit odd when we pulled up, but as we walked around and explored the neighbourhood we realized it... more
A 15 minute walk from DT Halifax, the Commons Inn is located in a vibrant area off the commons, and just a few steps from excellent cafés and restaurants (chez Tess, enVie vegan kitchen, Hali Deli) and the hydrostone market. overall good, but some minor things will get to you. Doors and windows arent very soundproof. air conditioner fan speed did nothing, still sounded like a jet engine all night. showerhead was messed up. Hard to beat location for the price. Was also able to see the fireworks from the 4th story patio.
me and my friends stayed here to enjoy festivities in the city. It gave us exactly what we needed and it even had a nice deck on the roof for us to relax on.
This was the worst hotel that we stayed in on our two week holiday to Canada. The hotel is very tired looking and in need of complete modernisation. The room was very small. There was a big hole in the arm of the sofa in the room, where the underlying sponge lining could be seen. The bathroom had not been properly cleaned. The reception staff were very noisy throughout the night, wakening... more

We appreciated the service and enjoyed the staff in a non generic hotel/Inn setting..interesting amenities in a charming and historical neighbourhood!
As it turned out, Commons Inn is well located - about 30 minutes from anything you want, from the waterfront, the Ferry, and attractions like brewery tours and Pier 21. This is Over price for what it is and has to offer. It was a mistake on our part to go there, lesson learned. Very disapointing. Floor not leveled. Bathroom door can't close completly (1 inch gap near door frame ). You can ear people in parking lot.
Low cost was draw convenient to convention center and rink
we found everything we needed. staff was friendly. building was in good repair- lots of character. enjoyed the pamphlet on the history of the building.
Room was fine. Some upgrading has been done. Major problem was the condition of the carpets in the room and hallways.
Good location, good service, good price, simple.
The room I stayed in was in need of an update and make over. There was no closet and only 3 coat hooks on the wall to hang clothes, cracked tiles in the floor in the bathroom to go along with outdated fixtures and sound that was easily transmitted through the hotel walls and ceiling. This is a $60/night room at best.
I like the accommodation, It is located 20 mins walk from Halifax downtwon

The best feature of the hotel is the friendly staff and is fairly close to downtown. 30 minutes walk to downtown. Rooms are ok, the bathroom could be a bit cleaner though. Continental breakfast has a good variety of food.
I was thoroughly comfortable for a week at the Commons Inn. The cost is fair, the staff are friendly and helpful, and it's close to all amenities and core tourist sites.
Staff was friendly, room was cute and clean, parking included and convenient
It was a great hotel for the price! I have no complaints. The room was dated, but still nice and comfortable. Everything was clean. The hotel staff was very friendly and accommodating. Easy to walk to downtown and the harbor. The staff was very friendly and the room was better than I expected. Free parking lot in the back was nice.
Overall the experience was not great. The bathroom door would not close, the shower head was broken, the room was uncomfortably warm and the fan in the room did not work. For the amount of money you will pay, go elsewhere!!
This place is a tip. We stayed here, fortunately, for just one night after arriving in Halifax at the start of a 2 week touring holiday and so just needed a place to crash for one night before picking up our hire car. Low end hotel with motel like quality. I needed a place cheap and in a hurray. Still payed more than it was worth.
Rooms are clean and spacious. Staff was lovely, and helpful... right down to booking cabs and storing luggage.
The unbelievable feature is two massive rooftop decks flanking both sides of the Inn! You can enjoy your morning coffee on 1000+ square ' deck. located in a cool area (urban chic) and a walk away from downtown.(7-10min)

Clean, friendly staff, lovely antiques everywhere. Picture displayed is NOT the Commons Inn. Slightly over-priced for what you get. It's got the charm but seems to be operating on a tight budget
Located a block away from Halifax Commons (and Olympic class outdoor Speed Skating Oval) this inn, made from a couple of Victorian era townhouses, is quaint, old fashioned and a bit quirky. First of all, there is no elevators so those with mobility issues are out of luck. I found this great little hotel in Halifax for about 1/2 the price of other hotels. The price included parking and a nice continental breakfast. First, staff is nice and friendly, this is the only good thing about this hotel. Second, something bad: very noisy, especially when someone was chatting in the corridor, room door can not filter any noise , the bed is not clean at all, it is smelly and I can even find some human hairs on it.
We were given an upgraded room due to the slow time of year so the room was very comfortable and the queen bed was super. The bath was not clean as there was a used soap still in it. The heat was hard to control with a baseboard heater ( it was cold when we arrived). The staff were friendly and helpfull.
