Our family have been patrons of this hotel for many years. When my parents,
(both in their 80's) must stay in the city, this particular hotel is what my
Dad calls "home". One year we were there whilst my Dad went for hip surgery. The staff bought, and brought us a small, trimmed, fiber-optic Christmas tree.
We truly feel they deserve high praise
for their hospitality over the years.
I've rarely been disappointed in my hotel choices since I started checking TripAdvisor every time, but this one was pretty disappointing. There was no one big problem, but a series of little things that just gave a bad impression then reinforced it. The neighborhood is industrial and doesn't feel especially safe. The sign on the door about a the lobby... more
The hotel is good a family on vacation, nice hotel staff, close to a big shopping mall at the Portland Airport
I stayed in a room that was like a suite with a small sofa and wingback chair. Big room with mini fridge and microwave, flat screen TV, and plenty of room for luggage. When I first went to my room there was no microwave. However the people at the front desk got one taken into my room. Good location near... more
We were traveling to Moncton by motorcycle on July 5 during ARTHUR, now a tropical storm. We had been on the road all day, soaked through three layers of clothing and just couldn't go any further in the wind and rain. The receptionist at the desk couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. From sheltering our bikes to helping us... more
Nice hotel, great location. Friendly staff. Very old out dated A/C units in room, Mine wouldn't work at all, and agent at front desk didn't resolve the issue. The breakfast was a huge disappointment. Only had cold boiled eggs, no meat what so ever, very small selection of breakfast items.
We were very pleasantly surprised after reading a few of the reviews to find our room almost spotless. The room was comfortable, had plenty of space, hot water and decent mattress. We got a good nights sleep, no noise!
The decor is dated which doesn't matter since it was clean. Our room didn't have any major flaws which would make...

The hotel is a Comfort Inn it was easy to find off the interstate. Check in was very friendly and the receptionist answered all our questions. They even accommodated us with a room with a fridge. The room itself is roomy and clean, the bathroom has the usual amenities and plenty of towels.
There is no noise from the Interstate.
I stopped in St. John on the way from Maine to Nova Scotia and chose the Comfort Inn. Everything about the hotel was fully consistent with what I expected: a good room with a comfortable bed and a basic breakfast. The staff was very friendly and quite helpful.
We stayed here 1 night on our way to the Digby ferry. It is a convenient location close to downtown. The carpet had a stain on it and the bedding was worn, the hotel in general needs updating. I would stay in a more modern hotel on my next visit to Saint John.
The Comfort Inn Saint John provided a warm and comfortable one night stay. We were lucky to get a ground floor corner room (no extra charge so ask for one), which was far larger than the standard room. Hotel reception staff were friendly but overworked. A very indifferent breakfast was provided in a cramped space and was a disappointment. It... more
There is no question, this establishment is in need of a bit of updating. However, we had a great experience with our stay. To start off, the lady at the front desk was really helpful and pleasant. Such a great first impression. Our room was quite big with two queen beds and a sofa. The beds were nice and comfortable... more
After staying at the newly renovated Comfort Inns in Fredericton and Edmundston, we were very disappointed by the Saint John Comfort Inn. The fact that the Christmas decorations are still up on March 16 and the Comfort Inn sign is all cracked did not augur well. By the side entrance, there's a warning about falling ice. They neglect to mention... more
This hotel is in need of a good remodel very dated and we were in a none smoking room but the smell was everywhere. Will never go back again
Quiet hotel, staff was very courteous, and room rates were very reasonable. Only had to stay one night, but would stay here again if I had to travel to the city.
The hotel is older and it is right off the highway. We chose it because we were coming off the ferry and didn't want to have to drive too far.
Even though we had a non smoking room our end of the hall and the stairwell reeked of smoke which permeated our room at night.
Clean & comfortable with excellent staff - quiet area close to city attractions.
Comfortable beds. Nice shower. The movie rental equipment was broken. There was a persistent noise coming from a close by room, like an electrical motor or probably a malfunctioning air conditioning system. Curtains and blackout systems were good. Parking spots were good too. Temperature control was easy to achieve and modify. Clean and tidy.
I first wish to express the staff at the hotel was vey helpful. We were disappointed with the hotel the guest computer was down, the hotel rooms were not clean. There was evidence of a dog having been in the room because the sliding glass door was dirty. When I ask, because my friend has allergies and had to use... more
Rooms weren't to bad, still undecided whether the top heavy sheets were changed before we arrived, didn't look like they were. Sheets were clean though. Breakfast room is very small, it's the size of a normal hotel room. Sits 10 people. Very crowded.
we stayed here for one night passing through saint john. we got a room with a king size bed. the mattress was good and the place was quiet through the night, a very good combination. the internet seemed a little slow even though it was 5 bar connectivity, I would've used hardwired Ethernet connection had I found it sooner. breakfast... more
We arrived at this hotel without a reservation about 8:30 p.m. On August 10th and were so grateful to the receptionist. There were no rooms to be had at any chain hotel, including the Comfort Inn, and she graciously helped us find a local place that worked out just fine. We were exhausted and her kindness made all the difference... more
Hotel was ok.Lady on front desk was nice .Room was clean. Went down for breakfast next morning but not much there for complimentary breakfast. Hallway smelled a bit smokey but our room was smoke free.Overall it was ok.
If you are looking for a clean room with no frills, you found it at the Comfort Inn, Saint John. The price is average for the area and you are close to everything. Its a short stint off the Trans-Canada highway west of city center.
After a long day of cycling from Fredericton, we decided to stay in a comfort in again.
Hallways smelled a bit Smokey, due to the smoking rooms, but the non-smoking room we had was quite clean and without the smell.
Service was great and all the staff were friendly and ready to help/answer your questions.
There wasn't a huge selection...

Friendly & helpful staff. Nice room with king-sized bed. Quiet. Decent complimentary breakfast. Handy to restaurants. What's left to say., we'd definitely stay here again. As with most businesses, the people who work there are what makes the difference and the Comfort Inn staff we encountered were tops.
Breakfast room had only 9 chairs too small for motel this large.
this is my 4th visit to this place. The rooms are nice and comfortable. I have scene some nice improvement since my first visit. Better WiFi access. I also like the idea that pets were able to stay with no additional charge. I always travel with my dog. I have found no other hotels in St Johns that will accept... more
Probably the friendliest staff around particularly the lady in charge of the Breakfast who was special in every way. Convenient for the Digby Ferry but not good for restaurants etc.
Hotel was fine but nothing special - just average.
Close to route 1 and easy access to food and fuel. Horse shoe pit and b-b-que pit for guests use . Friendly staff with a breakfast room "mom" makes your visit feel like home. The reversing falls is 5 minutes away. Downtown is just a few minutes away. The tides in Funday Bay are worth seeing.
St John Hotel is a great place to spend the night. Everything seems upscale, and it's not expensive. Our room with 2 queen beds was only $135.00 per night plus tax. A hot breakfast is included in the price. The only negative was the drains were slow. We would definitely stay at the St. John again.
Chose this hotel as we stayed at Comfort Inn's for our whole trip recently and we were on our way home. What a disappointed compared to the rest. First room, the sink was clogged, so moved to another room. That sink didn't drain well either, but didn't bother to move. The halls smelled bad, mostly cigarettes, carpets looked dirty and... more
This Comfort Inn meets all of the average requirements for this particular chain of hotels. As with many of the other TA Reviewers, you get a much better rate if you can reserve, rather than just arriving for the night, as we did with no reservation.
It is easy to see when you are coming eastward, from the Maine /...

Typical Comfort Inn. OK but there is no elevator for the 2nd floor which was not mentioned on the web site. Otherwise it is basic clean chain hotel at a reasonable price located where we needed a room.
This is your average Comfort Inn. smoking downstairs and most of the non-smoking rooms upstairs and there is no elevator.
I had checked rates for the rooms a few weeks in advance but as we were unsure of our itinerary I did not reserve a room. Then when we knew the date that we were going to be there the...

Stale pastries at breakfast. Friendly staff. Well located near highway.
The first thing that hit us as we entered the lobby was the smell of cigarettes. Our room, supposedly non-smoking, smelled of cigarettes. No elevator. So few electrical outlets that they used a multi-plug in one of the two outlets. One could not have the small refrigerator (which was not turned on - perhaps good from a safety standpoint, light,... more
The hotel and hallways smelled terribly of smoke. all though our room was smoke free the air still smelled bad in the room. The bed was hard and the breakfast area was way too small. We had to leave before we were done breakfast becaause there was no room and it was hard to take anyfood because everyone was stuffed in there with no room to move
Aaaaaahhhhh............another Comfort Inn with reasonable prices, good accomodations and..........yes........wait for it....SUPERB staff. We checked in after the ferry ride over from Nova Scotia and of course the lobby was full of other travellers. There was s short wait but the front desk person (Debbie) had it well under control and although I could feel the tension in the small space,... more
After staying at the Comfort Inn in Halifax, we thought we would give this one a go.
Again the rooms were clean and offered good value for money. These rooms did seem slightly more dated than the ones at the previous hotel, but that could have been due to the fact that there seem to be less natural light entering...

I recently stayed at the Comfort Inn and had a wonderful experience. My room was very clean and the staff was great. I did not get to the opportunity to have breakfast on this trip. I did however find the wifi very helpful. I will definately stay at this location on my next trip through Saint John.
We were in town for a dog show, and the Comfort Inn was a great location to go back and fourth to the show. The have a great green space to exercise the dogs and also an area to BBQ with picnic tables to enjoy a meal outdoors. Staff was great always asked how we made out at the show,... more
The hotel is a bit older but renovations seem to be in progress. Staff were super friendly and very helpful. Despite some of the more negative reviews I found the Comfort Inn here to be very well kept both inside as well as grounds outside. We travel with two small dogs and had ground floor which we prefer. Hotel is a bit outdated but the hotel staff is very friendly. If you stay on the main floor this might as well be an exterior room because there is a slide door that opens to the street. It is great if you have a lot of bags you don't have to tote them a long distance, but I didn't... more
Older property.
Clean and central location.
Friendly front desk clerk.
Free breakfast.
Limited amenities.
Not going back as it's getting dated and stuff does not work. Terrible temperature control, few power outlets, and a 13" TV.
I stayed here while attending meetings in May and the staff was wonderful! Very pleasant, talkative and knowledgeable. The rooms were very clean and bed was comfy! I will definitely stay here again when in Saint John.
Was given a room with 1 bed instead of 2 at first, but was quickly and wasily changed when brought to staff attention. Everything was clean and tidy, staff was very friendly. Rooms are your typical, beds, tv, bathroom. But have a calming feel. Was a nice stay.
My boyfriend and I stayed at Confort inn for several nights nothing impressive about it average accominadations if you like climbing stairs and having smells of cigrettes smoke around the building. Staff did what they get paid for other than that it ok
This hotel is only good for a one night stay. It's an older facility. Internet was good. Our room had an odd configuration. The tv was very small & way across the room. Bathroom was small compared to how large the bedroom was. So-so linens & towels. Breakfast room was small (3 tables: 2 for 4 & 1 for 2).... more
The room was ok, it was clean and service was ok too. But: I have never seen so many huge spiders in my whole life. The windows of the entire hotel were covered with dozens of them. Although there were nets I didn't feel safe. Breakfast was included but there were only two tables in the breakfast room so if... more
My wife and I were in Saint John for one night and as we are regular Choice Hotel members - about 45 days a year, we stayed at this facility. This was a nice motel overall. The girl at the desk stated that they will be going thru some renovations shortly. The heating/AC unit was very hard to get regulated properly. The weather was warm during the day and pretty cold at night so I suppose that didn't help either. Possibly, the future renovations will address the heating/AC unit. The ice machine also didn't work during my stay at the... more
Very nice and pet friendly. My friend and I were traveling with our little dogs and got such a warm reception. Beds were comfy and the room was clean. Stayed here overnight before taking the ferry to Nova Scoita. Will do the same next year.
Don't let the plain exterior and tiny reception area fool you. Very adequate hotel. Near the highway, so no need to go into the city. Very quiet, though located next to a truck/junk yard. Very claen, comfy...I wanted to take a pillow!! You do smell strong smoke in parts of the hallway, but not in the room at all. Very... more
If you've stayed at several Comfort Inn's, this is a mirror image. It's EXACTLY what you'd expect. It is however located in the least convenient area of the city. If you want to be close to the uptown or the east shopping this is not the area for you. If you are driving, you are only 5 mins from uptown.
We booked this hotel as a stop over from US on our way to Halifax. The place looked old but it is similar to more Comfort Inn I have stayed. The breakfast area is very small and the front desk was helpful. The rooms was kind of old and needs a makeover. But for us - it was ok since... more
Not a bad hotel, just felt we paid more than we should have.
The manager on 6/23/10 at 3pm was more interested in smoking just outside the main entrance than in checking us in.We left . We did stay in 2 Comfort Inns in Nova Scotia. They were great with attentive, friendly staff. The Comfort Inn in Truro was exceptional and the night desk clerk, Justin was most helpful and accomodating. The 2... more
The building is older and starting to get a bit shabby. We had booked online through a major 3rd party travel site and in doing so had inadvertently been assigned a smoking room. upon seeing the room I had reserved, I quickly returned to the front desk to cancel my reservation. It was clean and comfortable although a little tired which was however reflected in the price. The staff... more
Although we appreciated the continental breakafast, the breakfast room is quite small, unable to hold a small group of people. The location is perfect for seeing "The reversing fall" but best if you intend to catch the ferry to Nova Scotia.
Ok hotel. Same as every other Comfort Inn I've stayed in in Canada. Same room design, colors, meals, everything. Ok, not great but not bad. Overpriced for what it is.
I was in room 205 and could hear everything from the next room from tv to brushing teeth. Other than that it was ok.
The overall hotel was good. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Only downside to the hotel was that you had to drive to find a place to eat.
Our stay at Comfort Inn in Saint John was for a week and I was impressed with the hospitality of all the staff. They were knowledgable of local tourist attractions, resturants, and even had a couple of menu's to look at. They kept the room neat and clean, and did an overall outstanding job.
no complaints other than loud neighbors (hallway tends to carry the echos).
