Part of the sprawling Discovery Harbour Marina and Shopping Centre, the Coast is right in the thick of downtown and offers dramatic views from its upper stories. The accommodations are spacious and nicely furnished. Superior rooms offer ocean views, bathrobes, and upgraded toiletries. One wheelchair-accessible unit is available.
Checked into this hotel for a short two night stay. Room is really nice, clearly recently renovated. I was very pleased with the updates and jacuzzi in the room. I went to take a bath and the bath was plagued with hair. Clearly hasn't been cleaned in a while. We complained to front desk, who ensured us housekeeping would clean the room ASAP in the morning. Front desk gave us managements email... more
First thing to say is stay clear of this place! We arrived with a reservation that was thought to be completely paid for. When we arrive we are asked to put a credit card on file, come to realize they do not take any American credit or debit cards! Sooo... You might be thinking what did they do? If our cards are not working and they are asking for 411 dollars to stay for 1 night? Yes as anyone... more
HORRIBLE! I checked into the D.I on Wednesday night, went out for dinner and ended up meeting someone so I brought them back to the hotel. Yes, to be fair we had been drinking and totally lost track of time. The front desk clerk calls up and tells us we have 5 minutes to get out. After I asked him if there's anything I can do to rectify the situation as I don't live in town he says "ya be out... more
Please note that the marina and hotel are no longer the same biz. Please see Coast Discovery Marina for reviews specifically of the marina.
This place has some pros and cons.
Cons: Depending on which room you get, you are either very pleased or feel that this place is the hotel that the 80's forgot.
My friend and I checked into a double queen room and the minute we walked into the room the heat that accumulated during the day enveloped us - some rooms have AC and some do not (ours did not). My understanding is that if you need two...

Hotel is in need of upgrade. Parking and check in are a long ways from actual hotel rooms . View was terrible considering hotel is near sea. Exercise room was small and dated. Desk clerks were excellent and friendly. Elevator was very small. Breakfast was ok but not a lot of selection.
Beautiful views and comfortable rooms. Short walk to the water, and excellent fishing (in season) near by. Very nice facilities and the staff were very accommodating when it came to storing our frozen salmon for us for several days. Would highly recommend!
Let us check in early so we had time to prepare for the funeral after our journey. Very friendly, hot breakfast in the morning. Very central, next door to a mall. Great view, spacious room.
Me and my husband went to Campbell river last year and stayed at this hotel which I believe is the best one in town. Very helpful staff, nice and clean bedrooms, and best atmosphere. I would love to go back again and will prefer to stay at same place. The great part is, they have really good food for free.
Clean hotel with a great free breakfast - probably the best I have had in a commercial hotel- had good tasting hot items and served in a restaurant atmosphere. The room was very small and the bathroom tiny. Great location across the street from ocean and ferry terminal. A strip mall with stores is right beside the hotel and you can... more
We stayed here on a family trip this hotel was so nice and clean. Staff was very helpful with directions and any questions we had. My family really enjoyed the hot breakfast. The view in our room was awesome. I recommend this hotel to everyone.
Whenever I stay at competitor's hotels, I walk away thinking "I wish I would have gone with the Coast ." Some of the "value hotels" give such a poor quality of service, it has always been worth the few extra dollars to stay at a Coast Discovery Inn when you are in CR BC. This particular location in Campbell River... more
We stayed here before and after going on a kayaking trip. It looks like it is an older hotel that has been refurbished to some degree. The lobby looks nice and check in was fast and friendly. Both of the rooms we stayed in had a view of the harbour but the room we had on the first floor had... more
Our party of 7 were all disappointed by our dining experience at the D.I. Our servers were friendly and very pleasant. Each of us commented on the remarkably poor quality of the meals which were poorly prepared and generally overcooked. Several dishes were not as described on the menu. For example, one dish was listed as "medallions of pork". What... more
The hotel is in a good location for walking to stores, close to two marina's for fishing charter's or just walking along the pier. Also close to eateries, etc. Quiet for sleeping very comfortable bed. Staff was knowledgeable of Campbell River and very helpful or they would find out things for you. So all together it was a great place to stay.
I stayed here for two nights on a work-related trip. The hotel was very convenient, across the street from the ferry to Quadra Island and around the corner from a strip mall and Shoppers Drug Mart. Our stay included complimentary hot breakfast, which was unexpectedly decent! A good choice if you're staying in town.
The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant looked a little dated but the food was very good. Our room was huge and definitely recommend upgrading to the jacuzzi suite if possible. Family friendly yet quiet and relaxing.
My room was on the top floor facing the ocean - it was a beautiful view! The bed was comfortable, and room was great. There's no air conditioning but it did not seem to be a problem as the cool night air is fresh in Campbell River.
The breakfast was great, room very clean but the room was on the smaller side for 4 people (2kidsand 2 adults), bathroom was also very small. Good value for the money but if you have more than 2 people in the room, I would ask for a larger room style.
All in all the room was good, very clean, had the basics, fridge and coffee. The AC was really loud though, when I mentioned it at c/o they said they would send someone to look at it. The free breakfast was good, eggs bacon, yogurt or cereal. I really like the downtown location. While a bit loud, there is lots... more
The restaurant and lounge at the DI have reopened and are better then ever. The staff are fast and very courteous and polite. The food is amazing. I took my family for the gourmet omelet bar on Sunday mornings and it was so good, not to mention a huge fluffy omelet cooked right in front of you. The Prime Rib... more
Well located in the downtown area but like most hotels are close to highway so a bit noisy. Checkin was very good with pleasant and friendly attendant (Susan). Room had nice view and beds were very comfortable. Had a quick beer in lounge and bartender was very friendly
A con is the breakfast, while free, was not hot and ends...

overpriced. Not great at all. Save your money and go somewhere else. The service was ok but it took forever to get our food.
My stay was too short for this coast hotel.
The buffet breakfast had all the usuals plus scrambled eggs, cubed fried potatoes, ham, oatmeal. Yummmm.
The building appears to be older but very clean. I would return.
It's on the ocean and is a marina as well.
We spent a night here in a "tower" room- top floor, south corner, nice view. We felt we got very good value for the nightly rate, which included a hot breakfast. Eggs, sausages, potatoes and juice, cereal and other items.
The front desk could not have been more helpful, allowing us an early check in and generally being very friendly....

The room is a little on the small side but it is both clean and comfortable. We spent a few nights here and the view out the window is magnificent, any bad points are forgiven on that basis. It is nice to watch the cruise ships all lit up at night as they sail past. The reception staff were friendly,... more
I was there mainly for shopping, and a little get away with my husband. Met friends for lunch and supper.
Found this hotel to be a very poor representative of the Coast brand. My room was down a dated corridor behind the front desk, Felt like I was on my way to the boiler room. The room itself (queen comfort room) was the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in, very disappointing. Chipped paint on ceilings and baseboards, paint chips... more
Only stayed 1 night, but was very pleased with the hotel. The view was beautiful (lots of pictures) and the beds were very comfortable. Nice hot breakfast was included which was a bonus. Very friendly staff. Would definately stay again.
We travelled to Campbell River to go Bear watching and used this hotel as a base for two nights.
The decor is dated but the hotel is not run down, in fact it has only recently been refurbished. According to the hotel its done in character with the surrounding area, which fits.
The staff were very helpful and our room...

This was our first stay at a Coast Hotel and while not a 5 Star hotel as you would expect to find in a large city, it was a very good hotel and one of the best that we stayed at in any of the regional centres.

Nothing too exciting, except a clean, well appointed, functional room. The "plus" came with the staff that went out of their way to help us with suggestions for sightseeing and making the arrangements for going. A nice complimentary hot breakfast was also an unexpected benefit. If you're looking for an extravagant hotel, this is not the place. If you want... more
Good hotel, check in was easy. Bed was comfortable, the room I had was a little noisey as it was behind the service station. Lovely and clean.
We stayed at the Coast Discovery Inn for one night whilst we were in town for the Grizzly bear tour.
We generally stay in 3 star hotels however this hotel exceeded our expectations. From the moment that we walked in, the hotel felt warm and friendly. Our room faced the harbour, the bed was big and comfortable, and we loved...

We stayed a couple of nights at the Coast Discovery earlier this month. They have three levels of accommodation – Comfort Rooms, Superior Rooms and Premium Rooms. Our room was at the middle (i.e., Superior) level and was in the “tower” (which has an elevator).

Fantastic fishing, experienced guide. Will enjoy cold smoked fish in a month!
We came to Campbell River for the Grizzly Bear tour. This accommodation is well located in terms of access to the marina where our tour departed from and close to eating options. Coast Discovery is the first Coast hotel to get their fancy new sign.
The hotel has a great location, right on the Island Highway and across the street from the BC Ferry terminal. There is a small strip mall, Tyee Plaza, next to the hotel and there are plenty of restaurants and shopping within easy walking distance.

I have got to say that this hotel is absolutely wonderful and the best one in Campbell River. We got a great room. Very spacious and great view! The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I was on a road trip with some friends and this hotel was perfect for us. We will definitely be back!
We stayed at this hotel on our way to visit some friends. The hotel was very nice and the staff was excellent. They gave us a room with a awesome view. The rooms were very huge and clean. I recommend this place if you want to get a good night rest and clean room.
I stayed at this hotel few months ago with my family and was awesome experience. They have best view of ocean and yummiest food. The people working there were so nice and kind. We had a wonderful vacation. Great memories celebrating my parent's 60th wedding anniversary. The hotel was beautiful, the view incredible, the rooms were perfect and the food was excellent. Hotel is old and our room was very small and showed a lot of wear and tear. The room was clean though. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast was good. They allow dogs which is why we chose it.but would try somewhere else next time.
Very friendly staff .Checkin and checkout was very good . Hot buffet breakfast was very good. Rooms were quite nice and comfortable! Minor updates to decor could be done but overall very clean.Definitely staying here again when I am in the area!
After finding most of Vancouver Island without A/C, I was extremely satisefied with their NEWER portion of the hotel with the air conditioned room. Didn't smell pets and staff was professional and friendly nice big suites and separate bedroom with tv, living room has clean couch and tv there is also a little sitting area. The breakfast was really good. Over all love the facility and will stay again.
We stayed here one night as part of the BC Ferries inside passage tour. Was supposed to stay at the Painted Lodge but that was full.
The hotel is located on a mall and what I guess is downtown Campbell River. Since it's on a mall, no issues with parking. Check in was quick and efficient. Got a room in...

We stayed here for only one night, while visiting family in Campbell River. This is obviously an older hotel, and could use a major remodel. The rooms are quite small, tiny bathrooms. We had a double bed with a firm mattress that was h@!%!*n the back. Complimentary breakfast was ok but nothing special. The WIFI barely worked for me,... more
We were quite surprised at how tiny our room was for a "Premium" room, and no air conditioning. The view and location were great, but other than that we felt it was very over priced. The hot breakfast that was included was very good.
This is exactly what other reviewers have reported.....great location, not much view. From our room (in the smaller, two-story building) we DID have air conditioning (a real PLUS as the weather in Campbell River this day was high into the 80's (f). And, to be fair, we could, just, see the ferry landing and a little water from our window.... more
The staff was very friendly, the rooms and hotel was clean & our room was very comfortable.
This is one of the higher priced properties in CR and there's no real reason to pay the extra dollars. The hotel is old, and not in a charming way, the rooms are cramped and almost shabbby and don't be fooled by the advertised 'air conditioning'. My room had an absolutely ineffectual stand alone plug in unit. Luckily I missed... more
We choose the Discovery Inn because it was close to a wedding reception. We did not use the... more
First off the room I got was great tho the bathroom was a little tiny around the sink area. But all in all the room was clean and very cool for not having any A/C. I was in the tower part of the hotel on the top floor. Very quiet except for when I tried to get to sleep some... more
no food or bar service what so ever other than the free breakfast that was served for about 3 hours in the morning
Wow, where do I start? This place was such a disappointment, in so many ways. The hotel is across a busy highway from the marina, which has no relationship to the hotel. Yes, the place is centrally located in the main shopping area, but there is practically no decent shopping anywhere down there. The staff was OK, but young and disinterested. The place was clean enough, but not any nicer than... more
I stayed 1 night on 2 separate occasions. 1 of the rooms was not cleaned well. A clump of hair was left on the top of the tub between the shower curtains, at the end furthest from the drain. Additional strands of hair were on the floor under the bathroom sink. I removed all before before my wife saw them. Breakfast buffet staff were very good, and friendly.
Everything was good. Breakfast is included. The only thing that is changed the hotel is not serving lunches or dinners anymore.
I always stay at Coast hotels when I get the chance and this one didnt dissapoint. Great frendly service, ask for a room with a view. Its a great location, quick walk into downtown and also a great fish and chip place made out of a house boat called "d@!%s fish and chips".
Stay here every year on holiday. (tower section) The hotel is very clean, quiet and confortable. The beds are great and the room is well laid out and has a pleasant decore. We absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Coast Discovery Inn! Their beds are very comfortable, friendly and helpful staff. My only complaint about this hotel would be that they do not have a pool but other than that it is an excellent place to stay.
great stay, friendly staff. tower rooms far walk when you have 2 children though!
I stayed at this hotel for a quick business trip. I was surprised to find out that the section of the hotel I was staying in had no elevator, so I had to carry my luggage up the stairs (although the staff did offer to help, it was still a bit of an inconvenience).

The glory days of the Discovery Inn are long gone. My room on the main floor of the older section overlooked the parking lot where I was serenaded to the sound of diesel trucks and car stereos. I stayed at this hotel in Campbell River for one week on business. My main criteria was that the hotel I stayed at be centrally located and the Coast Discovery Inn fit the bill. The room was clean. Staff was friendly. You need to stay on the 5th or 6th floor to get an clear view of the water.
Excellent staff, great location and an overall wonderful stay. Even the breakfast was above and beyond!
Average with a few really nice people. Sean at the Lounge was great. Proximity to the Ferry (right accross the street) was key.
very friendly, and helpful staff, great location, and an excellent hot buffet breakfast included
I was awakened EVERY morning by the cleaning staff, even when the Do Not Disturb sign was on the door handle housekeeping staff were clearly present in the hallways engaged in loud conversation. LOUD LOUD LOUD hotel.Bathroom is TINY with poor water flow.
Although not a new facility, our "Tower" unit and the common areas appeared to be recently renovated and inviting.
We had a very enjoyable stay our room was clean and spacious. We must say that the food was just amazing would stay again if in Canada.
Very comfortable and the rate was fantastic.
