We enjoy China Rose very much. The price is right, NO MSG and customer service is excellent. Great location. We recommend China Rose to all our friends and co workers
What makes a good buffet for me is not only the selection, but only if it's hot and delicious. Here they always keep their buffet good, and it's affordable too.
The China Rose has been well set up and organized. The staff are efficient; the buffet is good and hot, with a wide variety of foods. You're well taken care of.
this is a great place to come for weekday night chinese food buffet. it's never too busy, the food is always hot and delicious, and the staff are quick and tentative. the bus boys are quick to take your dirty plates when you're up getting seconds. love it here!
I LOVE this place, and I know a lot of other people who do as well. It's really affordable, it's a big place you can always get into, and I like the atmosphere. They've done a good job taking care of this place, and the food is always really flavourful, not too salty, they put out the right dishes, and it's always warm. What more could you ask?
Calamari was great as was the rest of the meal....I have no complaints except for the misleading cocktail menu but we easily came to an agreement
We were excited to go back to China rose as the last time it was delicious. While we were waiting for the rest of our group we got a small sampler plate with ginger beef, sweet and sour pork and spring rolls. They all tasted like MOLD. Like moldy bread. Disgusting. Needless to say we left, never to return. Sad... more
My reservation was for 7:30 p.m. and the only problem I had was, even though I asked twice, the pan for the Salt & Pepper calamari wasn't refilled. This is one item I always look forward to when I go to China Rose. Everything else in their buffet is good, but I've learned not to have the Ginger Beef - it is hard and difficult to chew. My suggestion is also they need to be more diligent in... more
Went to this restaurant for the first time on the weekend and found the food at the buffet to be very mediocre and the price to be to be far too high for the quality of food. Everyone at the table found the meats to have too much fat on them and over cooked. We had to wait over 30... more
This is my little heaven, since my developed an allergy extrem to msg,my eating out adventures have completly stopped, since no one could garentee that they did have msg in there foods either by adding or just cooking pre made sauces or dishes, then one day on the wide world og google i typed in restaurants without msg and china rose appeared i went in person and talk to the lovely older gentemant... more
We ordered delivery, food was pretty cold... And I guess it just plain old wasn't good. No flavour.... We have ordered a few times over the years, the first time it was great. The last few times, not so much. I don't know if dining in is better... I do know that other delivery Chinese food is hit and miss... more
I have been going to the China Rose restaurant for over 20 years. The food/service/atmosphere has been consistent. Always a positive and enjoyable experience. The buffet choices are plentiful and always fresh. The buffet area is a little tight so when it is busy it does get cramped. Some of the minor issues are that the tables/chairs are getting old... more
This restaurant is garbage. Poor customer services. Super expensive. People putting in the buffet does not know any manner.
Restaurant is showing its age but food and service are great !
The dinner buffet is $18.99 which is almost double what you would pay in many other buffets. The salad bar had little to offer - lettuce, cucumber and a 'crab salad' but the crab was not evident. The soups were standard fare - hot and sour, wonton and corn. The buffet itself was not huge but sufficient. The broccoli was... more
The restaurant was very dirty. The chairs and benches did not appear to have been cleaned for quite some time; many stains and discolorations on the fabric. And the tables appeared to have had no maintenance done to them as well. It was uncomfortable to eat there wondering that if the eating area was so ill-kept, what was the kitchen like.
The place was run down and dirty. The chairs, at least the one I sat it, had broken springs and was covered in grease stains. The food was luke warm at best and was probably the blandest tasting Chinese food I have ever eaten. As I work downtown near China Town I have a wide experience of tasty Chinese food and China Rose does not qualify for that category. At $19.00 per person for the buffet,... more
After recently visiting china rose restaurant I was thoroughly impressed. They have been renovating so much especially the paint, deffonately a whole new atmosphere! Not to include that the good was to its always high standard. Love this place
Haven't been to the China Rose in years then recently went with a group of people. The line up for the buffet was long and the kitchen had a tough time keeping pace with the food. The food was merely "Okay". This restaurant has seen better days; it's time for a face lift.
Went back to China Rose for the first in a long time. Restaurant was dirty. Table paint chipped. Chairs filthy. Service poor..took 30 minutes & 3 tries to get correct bill. Will not be returning.
nice place to go for dinner friendly and get served quickly , in summer we get to eat outside patio ,
Today December 21/2013 @ 6:15 pm and after 10/12 years we have returned to China Rose for supper with my wife, well I must say that nothing much has changed except the price of the dish, the food still as awful as the last time we were there or worse,we didn't even finish the dinner and we left to never step... more
Been to China Rose a number of times for lunch over the years. Never very good, but usually OK. Today the food from the buffet hit an all time low There was an overall taste that was hard to describe, could be old cooking oil and stale ingredients meets incompetent cook. Anyway, it will probably be a very long time... more
One of the most discussing Chinese food places I have ever been to from hair in my dumpling to mice running past my feet never ever will I go there again and u warn you don't go
Went out for dinner to China Rose for the first time last week and I was amazed to discover this awesome family restaurant. As I don’t eat lots of spicy food I chose Szechuan dishes and was really pleased as they were delicious without burning my tongue. Along with mouth-watering food and good environment, even the staff gave us a... more
We ordered takeout and delivery. It took over an hour to receive our order (and we only live 3 blocks from the restaurant). It was ice cold and tasted like it had sat on the buffet all day....... "GROSS". I called them to complain and all we got was "Oh well, our delivery is from another company and there is... more
First impressions, this place was clean and well kept. I went for the lunch buffet with a friend that has been here many times and swears by the food. I absolutely loved it. According to other reviews, there is a lack of selection. I don't know if it was because I went the day before Chinese New Year, but there... more
I had my party here and service was terrible. Servers wont do anything unless you ask them too or didnt even serve the guest, they dont even help us to move some stuff. They rarely help us decorate, and they rather serve the small party or walk in rather the big party . FYI, it was a big party, there... more
The restaurant itself, the food and service is ok, which is to say there is nothing special about it but the location makes me think of work, and that takes away from being able to enjoy my meals fully. If that doesn't bother you, than more power to you. Go for it. It's close to the LRT station.
very greasy, very salty and very sweet foods.they have very few iteams.some foods are not fresh.everything i ate there was bad bad bad.nothing good a bout this foods at this resturant.only the service.consumer choice award?huh
Very respectful staff. Came absolutely regularly to ensure we and our elderly parent/in-law (85 plus years old) were doing fine. Wow....
Best chicken pieces I have ever had; the chip-like items were great (sorry don't know what they are called). Lots of deserts, including 2 types of ice cream.
Food excellent overall. Lots of places to sit, and we very...

Everything was just that... what you would expect from a reasonable restaurant so I rate it average.
we have eaten there afew times and in fairness the buffet is good not always the kind of food we like though
Great food! Lots of unique selection in the buffet.
I been to alot of chinese resturants and I have say China Rose has the best food and service in this city. Great selection on food and the spring rolls are to die for. I would recommend Chinarose to all my friends and family.
I'm not sure what the past reviews are all about but i went to china rose because WHERE calgary voted it one of the top chinese restaurants in calgary and i can say it was fantastic. GREAT selection on the buffet. The staff was tentative and friendly. Everything that came out was fresh and very good. I can tell you... more
I love Chinese Food and have eaten at 100's of places in many different cities. This place is by far the worst I have been to. The all you can eat buffet is really bad and there is no doubt that the day we went there the buffet consisted of lots of leftover food. We were the first ones there... more
I recently visited this restaurant because of the good reviews it received and had supposedly been voted best chinese food in Calgary...I can't imagine why. The lunch buffet would be a pretty good value I think for $7, but for dinner it's way too overpriced. The atmosphere is bland, the service was horrendous and the food was no better than... more
Only tried the buffet but found that many of the items were very heavily battered or too "western" of chinese origin and not true food. Very greasy. Very dry. Drinks were watered down. Save the trip unless you're in for that instant box stuff you can likely get from your regular supermarkets. The only saving grace was that staff was... more
food was great severs where very polite and well mannered as very help full.this enviornment is good for all ages. The food was fresh and hot and very easy to see the many different foods they have to offer. the setting in this resturant is very lax and mellow. Over all i would give 4.5 stars
Not worth the trip to this one! Avoid the buffet unless you just don't like yourself!
This has a really good Sunday afternoon buffet. Lots of space for large groups.
not too keen on their smorg - I found most of the food average
One of the best Chinese food smorgs in Calgary. Good variety, always fresh.
best ever Salt & pepper squid yet.
They cook with rusty woks and ceilings are disgusting but food is not to bad considering it is left out over night
Unfortunate but true, the quality of food has gone down. I miss the Old China Rose.
Featuring north Peking cuisine. Sample the seafood dishes or the daily buffets. Banquet rooms available. Entrees: $$
