Craved fish and chips and a friend recommended Charthouse. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to expectations: the batter was too thick, greasy, and rather tasteless; the halibut was paper-thin, fries were also greasy and limp; and the entire meal overpriced at $18.
I should have dined at one of the numerous fish and chips eateries along the boardwalk. The same...

Great location, friendly service. Seafood was fresh and well, though simply, prepared. We had the Charthouse Seafood platter with its generous variety of shellfish, including 2 lobster tails, and 2 pieces of snapper and a peach Melba! A nice traditional family restaurant.
This was my parents favorite restaurant, my mom loved the sunsets. We have gone for family dinners here 2 - 3 times a year, for about 10 years. The food is good, just not as tasty at times. The specials are usually good value and tasty.
Great location. Right on the water. Seating area was glassed in with a heater for when it is cool. They also have blankets at each seat to keep you warm.
If it is warm the glass doors can open.
Food was good.
Excellent place for a family reunion, go with friend, customer or else. Nice variety of dishes, not just fish. But fish is pretty good though. Price is very reasonable. Awesome view and even better and service.
After 5 minutes of arriving to the table server came.
Wine (white) was served - after half hour after that - lukewarm
...and then food another half hour....and it did not have any taste at all...vegetables were just warm up (I guess it is alright), but there were nothing to "cover them" - like oil/butter/dressing/ anything to make carrot and...

I recently had lunch at the Charthouse Restaurant in Steveston. I ordered the Ahi Burger and it was a disappointment! Why would you have Swiss Cheese or Mango Chutney on an Ahi Tuna Burger? The Ahi Tuna was boring .. no taste, seasoning. I ordered the tuna Rare.. the cook just flashed it on the broiler .. more like Blue... more
Had lunch with my husband on Saturday afternoon. Only 3 tables were full, yet a couple with 2 babies were seated directly behind us. It would have been nicer, since the restaurant was virtually empty, if the family with the cranky little ones would have been placed a little farther away. The view from the restaurant is lovely. The decor... more
Had Sunday lunch here and were soooo disappointed. The view is great. That's about it.
My husband had fish and chips (see, that says, "and chips") not sure if potatoes have gone up vastly in price or what, but the serving of chips was stingy.
I had eggs bennie which were advertised to come with potatoes- they did. Three little...

We two couples had dinner there Sept. 2_13, despite memories of not so good food years ago (we are locals). We had the three fish selection, part of which was stuffed with shrimp, all on rice. Despite our emphasising the fish NOT be overdone, it was - the sole was even baked brown on the outside. All the fish was... more
Great location in the Steveston area overlooking the fishing boats and Fraser River where it meets the ocean. Our salads were fresh and nicely presented by a tad on the stingy side. I had sole neptune and my wife had steak. Both disappointing. I usually avoid restos with a great view knowing that folks will go there just for the... more
We had the day to kill after checking out of our accommodation in Vancouver. After reading about Steveston on TripAdvisor, we dumped our bags at Yvr Airport and took the Canada Line (SkyTrain) and bus to this nice little fishing village in the district of Richmond. The only trouble was that the Vancouver weather (rain) persisted. So all we could... more
We had dinner here following a walk round town after whale watching trip. Good size portions & good value for money in comparison to some other prices we viewed at other restaurants.
This restaurant is located in the heart of the fishing village of Steveston and has a wonderful view out onto the water and the fishing boats. The food is good and always hot and the prices are reasonable value. The service is good and the workers pleasant. We have been there many times while living in the area and now... more
I was reading the reviews on this restaurant and it seems to have mixed reviews. I can only go by my own experience and I have been to this place only once and it was great! The food was excellent, the server was wonderful, the views were great and the prices weren't too bad. The only thing you may find... more
We had excellent meals here, and they could advise me as to what had gluten and what didn't. They made me sole almondine gluten free, which was terrific.
Great views, and location, but the food was uninspiring. My husband will only order a burger if it's homemade, and this one claimed to be. When it arrived it was obvious it was just a frozen patty. Rotten lettuce in my salad. The decor is very dated. We would not recommend, or return.
The Charthouse Restaurant has one of the best views of any restaurant in Richmond - or Vancouver, for that matter. The staff are always pleasant, and the food is good. We recently enjoyed one of many fine meals we have had at the Charthouse. The meals were tasty, well-portioned, and excellent value!
its end of season down there not many restaurants open so we tried our luck here , there was only about 6 other people in here the waitress was very friendly having a laugh & joke with us & was only to willing to help where possible , we had the calamari & a deep fried zuchinni to start was... more
Enjoyed various appetizers at the Charthouse with a group of around 30. The food offerings were very good, and the service was fine. My only negative observation was that the evening was rather costly.
I noted that we were among the only people at the restaurant on a Friday night - not sure what, if anything, that signified.
We go to the charthouse often and we love it. The owner is awesome and so are his staff. The clam chowder is amazing!! There has only been one problem of a steak coming out much rarer than wanted and the waitress took fully responsibility and took it off the bill without a problem. It has a beatiful view of... more
It was dark outside while we were having dinner so I can't speak to the view, but I can say that not even an amazing view would bring me back to the Charthouse. Despite being right in Steveston the food, especially the fish and chips, were bland and disappointing and the food was actually quite expensive. Given how many options... more
My ladyfriend and i stopped by The Charthouse for a seafood dish and watch the sunset. I was born in Steveston and lived there when it was a true commercial fishing town. We arrived just before an amazing sunset. The lady that served us was a delightfully funny lady. We told her that the blue moon would be out after... more
My wife and I along with another couple and our 4 kids showed up for dinner, their were plenty of open seats available ,we were first told we would have to pay a 17% gratuity and we couldn't split the bill which we thought was odd but agreed that was ok ,the hostess then sighed and went back to get... more
We has the Almond Crusted Sole but the rice pilaf was not fresh & almonds were just dropped on top the fillet; fresh steamed broccoli & carrot were perfectly done; the side salad was just greens & one tomato quarter; waitress was very friendly but forgot the early tea/ coffee request with the salads coming first. Maybe past it's prime... more
Food was decent - good portion sizing for what you pay for. But nothing spectacular! Needs better music and an updated atmosphere.
Although the location is lovely, on the dock in the quaint fishing village of Steveston, part of Richmond BC, the service for Sunday lunch on this sunny summer day was terrible. From the glower from the waitress when we told her how many were in our party , to the 85 min. wait to have our order taken by the same... more
Nice location/view but food is average. Lots of dishes taste the same and the menu doesn't change often. Service is OK.
We went for fish and chips- a staple in Steveston. This was the worst ever. We couldn't eat it and sent it back. They brought us halibut instead which was edible not certainly not great. Courteous enough but no apology for the terrible fish. Felt bad for the waitress. We will NEVER go back to this restaurant as the food... more
We've been coming to the Charthouse for years - it's my mom's favourite restaurant - so whenever we're in town, we usually end up there. The location is terrific, above the docks @ Steveston wharf. Most seats have a great view of the water and the busy dock/wharf area.
The menu has a wide variety (not always a good thing),...

The food was so so and we came out to find a very expensive parking ticket . Parking has always been a problem here but now they want to increase revenues by slamming you with a very expensive ticket if you can't figure out how to navigate their confusing and difficult pay parking system . It really makes this place... more
Located upstairs (there's a lift) on the dock in Steveston district of Richmond, this place has almost everything going for it, except really fine food. I'd go back for a lunch, but would probably look further for a really good dinner.
we were greeted by the friendly owner upon arrival, he sat us out on a beautiful patio seat where we could see the boats and fraser river it was lovely. a bottle of wine is as cheap as 16.95$ here and food is about 14-20$ for dinner which is excellent in steveston if you compare to places like blue canoe,... more
We like this place a lot. Been going for years. Parking not very good though. Good value for good food and great view of the docks.
highly recommend!
High end prices for mediocre food, don't care for frozen vegetables when I am paying fine ding prices, need I say more?
This is the typical very nice restaurant.
You'll get excellent service, very good food, very nice ambiance.
The only thing is that I found it a little bit pricy, but that's the point. You go to NICE places expecting to pay good money for your food and service. So I guess overall it wasn't that pricy. That's why I say...

There are so many options in the area... Charthouse has the upper hand with the second story view (great views of the waterways and fisherman's wharf), but they fall short in the food department. Not bad mind you, an enjoyable experience for sure. However, when compared to other options, it's easier to choose a competitor.
