Spread out over three levels and a sun-dappled patio, this newish hotspot is favored by fun-starved ale aficionados and hungry window shoppers alike. Small outdoor area is packed with bedheaded brunchers on nice days (some solo, cradling books), but inside gets boisterous around the dramatic central bar with tons on tap, albeit not that cheaply. Try the unique oyster poboy, or if it's comfort... more
Upbeat atmosphere with fantastic service and great food! Huge selection of drinks and everyone is always friendly. A little on the pricey side otherwise I would definitely be there every day.
We went here for a drink last night and we were seated at the bar. We waited patiently for 25 minutes to get served for a drink trying to get the attention of bar staff and servers. We were completely ignored the entire time despite being seated right in front of the 2 barmen. We had to just leave. So... more
Commercial Drive has its fair share of funky little brunch and dinner places. I've only been to the Charlatan once, for brunch on a sunny and mild Fall day, and I'd give it a cautious recommendation. Friendly staff, a nice outside section just off the Drive where you can enjoy the sunshine while you eat, good atmosphere, but hit-and-miss food.... more
As other have mentioned...the food is quality..uhhmm..lacking. We shared a burger and salad. The Ceaser salad we can recommend but by the time I was done with the burger there were two chunks of un-chewable meat by-product on the side of the plate. Showing it to the waiter elicited a shrug.
Did have a great beer, tho.The best thing was...

SO hard to rate this one fairly! Absolutely do not go there for the food. Not ever. Just... don't. The cocktails are pleasant enough, but there are plenty of places on the Drive that'll serve them with considerably more kick for your money! The beers, by all accounts, are pretty good. But mainly people seem to head there for the... more
if you want to chill and relax and have a beer, this is as good as any. if you want a meal, then leave the kids at home. no kids menu and all they could do was a grilled chicken breast with herbs on it. we had no idea of this until it came, try presenting that to a seven... more
I come here often. Great atmosphere, great people to mingle with, great food. The staff is very friendly, but unfortunately in the past 6 months or so service has gone down hill. Often I end up with an empty drink and have to sit and wait a long time to be asked for another one, sometimes I just end up... more
Food- can't comment never got any after an hour and fifteen minutes. How difficult is it to prepare eggs, We didn't see one plate come out. "Kitchen is busy".....hardly! Absolutely disconcerned staff. Shame on them. Asked the waitress "How are you today?" Answer "Well I am here." The hostess was more concerned about how she looked to the point she... more
Lots of beers, great menu, always a game of some kind on the many screens. Fab for brunch at he weekend
Order off the Special sheet and you wont be disappointed. Make sure if there is a game on you get there early other wise you have no chance for a table.
Great service and Great food.
Love it,
The Charlatan has nice space. I have been going there for brunch , lunch and dinner ( bar food). Good selection on wine. The staff is friendly and attentive to your needs. You can watch sport as well, but they have good music. Not for kids - it's a bar type destination. Open late.
This restaurant can't seem to make up it's mind what it wants to be! You enter into a noisy, sports bar atmosphere, but with an oddly formal decor. The food is fine.
Good food, good atmosphere, good beer
Wow. This restaurant has a fantastic environment, great food and appys, and an unparalleled selection of beer on tap. I strongly recommend the Tuna Bites and the mussels!
Inviting gastropub serves dishes such as mussels with white wine, butter and fresh herbs, and the salmon burger with wasabi. $. D (daily), brunch (Sa-Su).

With a patio for people watching and a three-level space with the bar taking center-stage, The Charlatan is a popular and cozy place to watch a game or hang out with friends. Menu highlights include contemporary twists on typical pub grub, such as yam frites and venison burger, as well as more sophisticated bites, like the coconut shrimp and tuna with wasabi mayo. Offerings from the bar include... more
