My husband and I received gift certificates at Christmas for Le Chambertin, after having raved about holding our wedding reception there twenty-four years ago! So we decided what better occasion than Valentine's Day to make use them, right? WRONG! It was THE worst Valentine's Day experience we've ever had!
The first tip off should have been that there were tables left for the 6:00 p.m. sitting. Friends joked that the earlier dinner time matched our getting older now (although I wouldn't call 54 a geriatric just yet) As we walked in, one thing jumped out at us. Everyone was sitting jammed packed, shoulder to shoulder. The floor space had been totally maximized and there could not have been more than 2.5 feet between parties (some tables for 2 had even less) -- a lot of them were groups of 6 or more. We were shown to a table at the back of the restaurant, facing 2 long tables of 12 who were there for a lively birthday party. We felt like we were at a cross between a wedding reception and a cabane-a-sucre!
There was a set menu, which wasn't a table d'hote, and everything was individually and highly priced (one of them a tomato and gin soup at $8.95 (!) while a caesar salad was $6.95). I had the Roast beef au jus at $34.00, with a smallish baked potato, ONE asparagus spear, and a small sad pile of green and red julienne cut peppers and thinly sliced zucchini and carrot "toothpicks". Bread was made available ONCE by a waiter passing out ONE sliced bun-sized chunk of challah bread from a giant salad bowl. CHALLAH bread in a French restaurant?? I had to ask if there was sour creme and the waiter came back to spoon some on my plate - ick. Fortunately, they didn't do anything terrible to my roast beef (hmmm... was that condensed beef consommé as the "jus"?) My husband's salmon was blahh and uninspiring at $29. with dry rice and the same pile of peppers and zucchini. Our waiter came to take our order, brought our wine ($29.95 for a bottle of the house wine as individual glasses or half litres were not available), warned us that if we did not order an appetizer it could be a long wait for our meal because it was so busy in the kitchen, but we still said no. The waiter came back with our food, grudgingly returned at our request to pour more water for us once, and finally, brought our meal. He never came back to check on us (more bread, perhaps? surely you jest, although the breadman did spend a lot of time checking on the 2 tables of 24 next to us).
All we could think of is how Le Chambertin had ruined what was supposed to be a romantic dinner. There was no special attentive service that one expects in a fine dining restaurant with those kind of prices. There was no atmosphere except for some red helium filled balloons here and there. The restaurant chose to maximize their earning potential, at the price of our own personal experience. Maybe the large groups had a good time, but I can bet the rest of the couples felt this experience left A LOT to be desired, for the kind of experience THEY had intended for their Valentine's Day dinner. Friends of ours had gone to Gibby's - a place they keep returning to every year, for every one of their special occasions. I don't think the prices there were much different than what we paid, but judging from how they rave about the service and the food all the time, I told my husband that GIBBY's is where we are going the next time!
Service amical. Atmosphère détenue. Bonne variété de menu. Carte des vins intéressante.

From the moment we walked in we had a great time. Excellent service, hospitality, entertainment and delicious food. Highly recommend for any special occasion. Hope Le Chambertin stays around for many more years.
My GF had talked to me about this place for a while so i decided it would perfect to surprise her for v-day. Arrived at 8:00 the place was already full but we were seated in less than 5min. It can get quite loud since they have live music and a dancefloor. My wife had the lambshank and i took... more
Very disappointed for the following reasons:
- arriving at 20h10, had to wait 15 to 20 min outside, at -16°C, in line, to enter the restaurant
- number of tables almost double than what the restaurant normally has, hence the space very crowded
- serveice very bad, we have not received the sorbet and the coffee; received the main dish...

Having been at this restaurant several times, never fail to have a good meal. Sevice is excellent. Menu is diversify. Weekend music is wonderful. Price is fair for the whole package. If you are in the mood, you can even dance!
Went for a corporate event and after a short business meeting, we were served drinks and appetizers. We were a group of about 30 and the service was excellent. Apps were fresh, unique and tasty. Although it was a little cool out, we retired to the patio, which was perfect. Comfy and quiet - great place for a couple drinks.... more
We decided to go to Le Chambertin to celebrate my daughter's 30th birthday. It was a big bash with a lot of our friends and a lot of her friends and I have to say, we were amazed by the fantastic service and fantastic food! It was a Friday evening and there was live music all evening and we danced... more
I was always under the impression that this restaurant was for older people and was way too expensive, but decided to give it a try anyway. We were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent and the service was really awesome. Our waiter was very polite and always asking us if everything was to our liking.
We were lucky enough to...

Wonderful dining experience. Started with the seafood appetizer (jumbo shrimp, calamari and salmon) and had beef wellington and lamb shank as main dishes. Service was very friendly, prompt and professional.
Met the owner (Jamal) who inquired as to our dining experience, which shows he cares about his clients. Witnessed the flambeed tomato soup being performed for another table and will...

Food and service was awful. My first time at this place and not impressed at all , this charactor in a white dinner jacket kept dimming the lights ,we were almost in the dark the whole evening, very little food and my filet was charred .The waiter had no manners , a 15% service charge $38.00 was automatically charged and he... more
A small 2-3 piece band entertains you all evening. The menu is fantastic and the owner is a class act. My Wife and I go there at least every couple of months. Highly recommend!
First and last visit on the same night. Happy I didn't have to pay because we were invited. Felt bad that the folks who invited us paid for that poor level of quality. Exemple, full price for a Virgin ceasar that was a glass of Clamato juice with a slice if lemon- no spices and the vegetables, well, we will... more
Four of us had a very nice dinner there recently to celebrate a wedding anniversary. The food was really very good and all staff members were exceptionally friendly and courteous. Our server was excellent and very professional. We had the Shrimp Chambertin, Escargot and Caesar Salad to start. For the main courses we had the grilled shrimp, filet mignon Forestiere... more
The evening was fantastic! Food and service were out of this world, Music was great kept everyone on their feet. The presentation of the birthday cake was super! Can't wait to return
Food was ok and service was average; but most of all the snobbish attitude of the waitress ensures that I'm never stepping foot in that restaurant again.
I thought the food was great but the servings were a little small....cant say i'm surprised
Excellent service, outstanding food, could not believe the low cost compared to Toronto, where we come from.
Good dinner for a special occasion. Beef Wellington is really good. Service is attentive and the live music makes it more than just a dinner. It becomes a lovely romantic evening.
Great dinner and dancing, food is just great and dance floor
Extremely disappointed - cheap and greasy steak - food is low quality - waiters are running like chiken, busy restaurant - although I reserved, waited 35 minutes to sit at the last end corner of this unhealthy restaurant - waiter pushed us to sit at the bar until a table is free. Never again!
We enjoyed the atmosphere, the ambiance was great. During meal time the music was soft and subedued. As the evening progressed the music became more alive and many people got up and danced. Our waiter was exceptional and the hostess and the owner paid a lot of attention to us. The food was very good, my lamb was just right,... more
French restaurant with only Italian house wine. Only house wine by the glass, everything else by the bottle!! My wife chose the Shrimp Bisque, the waiter asked her if she knew that this was a soup! I ordered the Caesar Salad. The bisque came and it had been scalded, not only too hot to eat but it had been boiled.... more
Bad food, service and horrible atmosphere. The quality of the food is disastrous. This place is way overpriced. The service was abysmal.
was there saturday nite, ambiance very busy, service slow, ordered seabass, wife got food poisoning, sick all nite saturday, sunday and not working today. My steak overdone, asked for medium rare, was over cooked. They are packing guests in, noisy, not romantic, not comfortable overall. Pricey for what you get. NEVER AGAIN.
We went there on a Saturday night and they had valet parking and live music. The ambiance was ok, but we found that the music was a little too loud. The place was pretty much packed and it seemed like we were the youngest couple there (we are 35). We ordered duck and "surf and turf". The duck was ok... more

You feel like you are at a wedding reception
Very, very disappointed! It was very noisy, very slow service, and very pricey, for the quantity of food you receive!
Excellent service, proprio (maitre d'hotel) et notre serveur ... more
