Nothing has changed in 10 years

After 10 years I returned to Carlos and Murphy for dinner with a few friends. This restaurant needs a lot of updating....uneven floors.....smelly bathrooms and awful food...tasteless and bland.

Used to be better

Our last experience at Carlos & Murphy's was somewhat dissapointing. Unless we have lucked out previous times (came in during happy hour?) the prices seemed way high. A small glass of mediocre wine for over $7??? Food quantities less and just overall seemed overpriced. We have always enjoyed the flavour and atmosphere, but not sure when we'll go back.

Yummy Nachos

I really enjoyed my Margarita and Nachos. My husband had a burrito which was pretty bland. Service was very good and quick.

chime's are good

We usually make Carlos and Murphy's stop every time we are in Winnipeg. This time we found the chimichangas good, not exceptional. Parking was a challenge this time as there was huge ruts in the back streets due to the amount of snow and ice not cleared.

A Winnipeg icon for many years, Carlos & Murphy's is and has been a Mexican hit from the beginning! The food is awesome! The prices are great! And their service is top notch!
Located in heart of Osborne Village, this restaurant with it's Southwest Spanish flair, is sure to please! Park your burro and have a burrito! Yum!

My favorit place in Winnipeg

It is a cozy (not a fancy) restaurant with friendly staff and it is my favorite restaurant in Winnipeg.
Food is also good with reasonable price. Some people say it is not genuine Mexican food, but I like it the way it is!
They have great salsa. They also have some deals on chicken wings, if you like them.

Dark and dirty

Overall this place is so dark and dirty the only thing you should order is a beer that comes in its bottle!
I won't be coming back.

Nice evening on the patio

Ate at Carlos and Murphy's tonight with some girlfriends, had the shrimp taco's and they were great! Nice cold Corona's and a very helpful waitress.

Best Nachos in town

Been going to C & M's for years for the best nachos in town (Carlos Nachos to be specific as they have refried beans on them). Huge portion, lots of cheese and extras, great guacamole (extra charge). Wasn't Bad

Ate at Carlos and Murphy's last night, it was my first time there. The food was great for Mexican fare, I paid about $7 for a long island ice tea that was in a tumbler (I get bigger ones for the same inflated price at Jets games) I found the total bill to be a bit pricey for Mexican food.... more

What were we thinking

My first visit will be my last. The restaurant is dark and dusty. There is no choice of wine, only Barefoot is served. The food was quick, but unappetizing looking. It tasted like it looked. The nachos looked great, but we didn't order that.

Now THAT's what I'm talking about

I don't know what has changed at C & M, but the flavour of the food has a greater depth to it. Super flavourful...I've taken 3 groups there in 3 months to dine. It is definitely fulfilling and you are left content. The atmosphere is what makes it and breaks it.

Great place for a beer

I love coming here for a couple beers with friends. The food is kinda c@!p, over priced bar food, but really when you have had a couple beers what you want is greasy fatty food. Great place if you want a down home feel

I come here when I pass through Winnipeg with a local friend . I like the small intimacy of the place - it's a relaxed hipster hang out without being pretentious . We always sit at the bar and get into fun intense debates with the bartender . I enjoy discussing the merits of one night stands over monogamous relationships... more

Still the best nachos in the Peg

Carlos & Murphy's is a village staple. The cozy restaurant still offers the best nachos in the Peg. Great stop before or after a movie or take a stroll through the village and shop the unique stores.

Food was below average

I went here with my wife and I order the beef burritos and she order beef enchiladas. Mine had no flavour and the Mexican rice was old and hard. The beef in her enchiladas was beyond dry. I ordered a lime margarita and she order a strawberry one. Mine had no lime taste and I could only taste the tequila.... more

Terrible Food

I guess it's carefully contrived grungyness is charming, but the food is terrible.... well below even the poorest grade of Mexican cuisine. I can make better Mexican at home out of a kit. No exaggeration.

Good atmosphere, food is average

The patio and lounge area are well-known in Winnipeg as a popular hang out pre- and post-events. We had drinks and appetizers and they were all good but not spectacular. The atmosphere is what makes this place and it's worth returning for that reason.

Great as Always

Still love this place after all these years. We came here on our first date almost 13 years ago and celebrated our 6th anniversary today. Wings and Nachos - Nothing fancy, just really good food outside on a neat patio. Service was great and atmosphere makes Carlos and Murphy's a favorite.

Good Nachos

I like the nachos and the cold beer they serve, the food is a little greasy but it is expected from a mexican restaurant.

People must like this place for a reason but I'm not sure why

Greasy, ordinary tex mex, expensive drinks - this place is great for teenagers but grownups can do much better almost anywhere. This place has such a great ambiance but it is really just a tourist trap - something you would find in Disneyland. Big guacamole, nice place for a beer

Got the chips and guacamole here a few times because the portion of guacamole is pretty big. Though it wasn't made equally well each time, I still enjoyed it.
Love their location in the Osborne Village and a nice cold beer in the outdoor seating on a summer night.

Favorite restaurant

By far my favorite restaurant in Winnipeg. Come by often and it never disappoints. Gotta try the Nachos Oaxaca or Chimichangas!

Not the most authentic Mexican in town

Great for Nachos and beer, both otherwise the other dishes all taste the same smothered in cheese.

Good food, interior looks grungy

Food is usually good, not the cleanest place to eat and he need to spend some money on the interior in the worst way. There are not too many other mexican options in this city.

If you like Mexican food this is a good choice. Many choices on the menu and well prepared. Very good enchiladas.

Excellent fresh food

Just a great place to go to for super food. They have gluten free menu items which is great. Food is reasonably priced and good size portions.

Is This The Best

Don't know why anyone would even return to this place. The servings are small and nothing special. Atmosphere is drab and service non-existant. Anyone who says they love this place has very limited experience with what Mexican food is really like.

Best we have

It's hard to find good Mexican food in Winnipeg, but I have to say this is probably the best we have. It's not amazing, but it works. The fact that it has been around for ages speaks for the food and atmosphere.

Has had issues with kitchen cleanliness

This place is on Osbourne Street and offers a back patio. It specializes in Mexican food but seems to have had problems with kitchen cleanlines lately and this has been mentioned in the newspaper. We will give this place a pass.

I love the 80's

I was a big fan of this place once upon a time. Now it's dark, dank and dirty. It smells like the basement flooded and was never cleaned up. Been many times as it is a favourite of friends - not ever a personal choice.
Completely average food. Dinner platters are a great deal moreso than nachos. Service has always been rushed, but friendly. Food has never been bad, but also never 'good'.

Big disappointment

Been there many times in past. Service and food was okay but not really Mexican. Last night was a great surprise! Service was so-so but the food was literally tasteless and lacked any seasoning. Will not return. If you want something closer to mexican food I recommend Taco Bell.

Ive been going to carlos & murphys for many years. They have the best home made salsa in the world. Ive tried all the nacho platters and ther all great. The nacho platters are huge. My husband and I went for lunch and really enjoyed the food. The service was quick and friendly. Although, the decorations were nicely done, the place could use some sprucing up. Everything looked a bit in need of paint and refreshing - it was getting old and worn.

I have been going to Carlos & Murphy's for around 2 years. The Carlos gold wings are excellent (sweet and spicy). The atmosphere is excellent, dark, and cozy, with friendly service. The prices are reasonable, but parking can be a pain in the Osborne area.
