After 10 years I returned to Carlos and Murphy for dinner with a few friends. This restaurant needs a lot of updating....uneven floors.....smelly bathrooms and awful food...tasteless and bland.
Our last experience at Carlos & Murphy's was somewhat dissapointing. Unless we have lucked out previous times (came in during happy hour?) the prices seemed way high. A small glass of mediocre wine for over $7??? Food quantities less and just overall seemed overpriced. We have always enjoyed the flavour and atmosphere, but not sure when we'll go back.
I really enjoyed my Margarita and Nachos. My husband had a burrito which was pretty bland. Service was very good and quick.
We usually make Carlos and Murphy's stop every time we are in Winnipeg. This time we found the chimichangas good, not exceptional. Parking was a challenge this time as there was huge ruts in the back streets due to the amount of snow and ice not cleared.
A Winnipeg icon for many years, Carlos & Murphy's is and has been a Mexican hit from the beginning! The food is awesome! The prices are great! And their service is top notch!
Located in heart of Osborne Village, this restaurant with it's Southwest Spanish flair, is sure to please! Park your burro and have a burrito! Yum!
It is a cozy (not a fancy) restaurant with friendly staff and it is my favorite restaurant in Winnipeg.
Food is also good with reasonable price. Some people say it is not genuine Mexican food, but I like it the way it is!
They have great salsa. They also have some deals on chicken wings, if you like them.
Overall this place is so dark and dirty the only thing you should order is a beer that comes in its bottle!
I won't be coming back.
Ate at Carlos and Murphy's tonight with some girlfriends, had the shrimp taco's and they were great! Nice cold Corona's and a very helpful waitress.
We happened to fall on this place last week while on business in Winnipeg. Seemed like a cool joint with cool people and it was but the food lacked any type of originality. The Mexican food was simply ho hum, nothing to write home about. We had chips, guacamole and salsa to start. Portions were HUGE but bland, the salsa... more
Been going to C & M's for years for the best nachos in town (Carlos Nachos to be specific as they have refried beans on them). Huge portion, lots of cheese and extras, great guacamole (extra charge). Gold shrimp is also delicious, and the wings are pretty good too, especially during Happy Hour when they're half price. Strawberry margaritas are... more
Ate at Carlos and Murphy's last night, it was my first time there. The food was great for Mexican fare, I paid about $7 for a long island ice tea that was in a tumbler (I get bigger ones for the same inflated price at Jets games) I found the total bill to be a bit pricey for Mexican food.... more
My first visit will be my last. The restaurant is dark and dusty. There is no choice of wine, only Barefoot is served. The food was quick, but unappetizing looking. It tasted like it looked. The nachos looked great, but we didn't order that.
I don't know what has changed at C & M, but the flavour of the food has a greater depth to it. Super flavourful...I've taken 3 groups there in 3 months to dine. It is definitely fulfilling and you are left content. The atmosphere is what makes it and breaks it.
Unfortunately, in my last 4 visits, I've heard really...

I like Mexican food but this is really BAD Mexican Food! Had no flavor the restaurant itself is dark and dingy and the service is slow!
I love coming here for a couple beers with friends. The food is kinda c@!p, over priced bar food, but really when you have had a couple beers what you want is greasy fatty food. Great place to go with friends for a fun night out. The main problem is there is not enough seating in the bar on busy... more
I love their Nachos Oaxaca!! yumm!! THeir baked tacos are very good.... their burritos are huge.. and enchiladas were ok. Their Gringo burger is huuuuge and you get a huge mountain of home made fries with it. All portions are very impressive, very big. Their taco chips and home made salsa keep us coming back time and time again... their... more
I come here when I pass through Winnipeg with a local friend . I like the small intimacy of the place - it's a relaxed hipster hang out without being pretentious . We always sit at the bar and get into fun intense debates with the bartender . I enjoy discussing the merits of one night stands over monogamous relationships... more
Carlos & Murphy's is a village staple. The cozy restaurant still offers the best nachos in the Peg. Great stop before or after a movie or take a stroll through the village and shop the unique stores.
I went here with my wife and I order the beef burritos and she order beef enchiladas. Mine had no flavour and the Mexican rice was old and hard. The beef in her enchiladas was beyond dry. I ordered a lime margarita and she order a strawberry one. Mine had no lime taste and I could only taste the tequila.... more
First came into the restaurant, there's no greeting at all from the employees/employer. We met a tall guy and he was just quiet to us. We were wondering was he the owner or employee or not. He had a tiny little smile to us. That's all. That was an awkward moment for us. Second, in the US, when we ate... more
I guess it's carefully contrived grungyness is charming, but the food is terrible.... well below even the poorest grade of Mexican cuisine. I can make better Mexican at home out of a kit. No exaggeration.
The patio and lounge area are well-known in Winnipeg as a popular hang out pre- and post-events. We had drinks and appetizers and they were all good but not spectacular. The atmosphere is what makes this place and it's worth returning for that reason.
this is a good place to come for a beer (don't bother with the margaritas), but try to get a spot in the lounge where you won't be forced to order the food...everything on this menu tastes exactly the same: like c@!p. portions singlehandedly explain north america's obesity epidemic. beans, meat, and rice totally lacking in any flavour whatsoever, which... more
Still love this place after all these years. We came here on our first date almost 13 years ago and celebrated our 6th anniversary today. Wings and Nachos - Nothing fancy, just really good food outside on a neat patio. Service was great and atmosphere makes Carlos and Murphy's a favorite.
You go for the wings, and you stay with everything else. Nuff said. ; )
I like the nachos and the cold beer they serve, the food is a little greasy but it is expected from a mexican restaurant.
Greasy, ordinary tex mex, expensive drinks - this place is great for teenagers but grownups can do much better almost anywhere. This place has such a great ambiance but it is really just a tourist trap - something you would find in Disneyland. For way better food and cheaper drinks with a lovely quieter, relaxed atmosphere, head up the street... more
Got the chips and guacamole here a few times because the portion of guacamole is pretty big. Though it wasn't made equally well each time, I still enjoyed it.
Love their location in the Osborne Village and a nice cold beer in the outdoor seating on a summer night.
By far my favorite restaurant in Winnipeg. Come by often and it never disappoints. Gotta try the Nachos Oaxaca or Chimichangas!
Great for Nachos and beer, both otherwise the other dishes all taste the same smothered in cheese.
Eww. . .Need I say more? I haven't been here in years. If the bathrooms are this bad, what is the kitchen like? I don't think I want to know. . . let me know if the place has cleaned up. . I'm too scared to go back.
this is located the heart of Osborne village and this is a quaint restaruant has great food! The wings a re must try!
Food is usually good, not the cleanest place to eat and he need to spend some money on the interior in the worst way. There are not too many other mexican options in this city.
This place is kind of dirty and the food was nothing to return for.
Seems like everytime I go there I come out having bowel problems.
If you like Mexican food this is a good choice. Many choices on the menu and well prepared. Very good enchiladas.
Just a great place to go to for super food. They have gluten free menu items which is great. Food is reasonably priced and good size portions.
Don't know why anyone would even return to this place. The servings are small and nothing special. Atmosphere is drab and service non-existant. Anyone who says they love this place has very limited experience with what Mexican food is really like.
It's hard to find good Mexican food in Winnipeg, but I have to say this is probably the best we have. It's not amazing, but it works. The fact that it has been around for ages speaks for the food and atmosphere.
I always have a great server who is super friendly and funny. Melissa is really good. Great food, and big portions! Love the salads
A really good neighbourhood joint for a brew and nachos,(the best)
great plate of nachos, all kinds of cold beer (local and nat'l), great fries, great wings
We LOVE this restaurant. This particular restaurant is our very favourite in the city. The wings are top-notch! The nachos are great, and the salads are phenomenal as well. There is a dining area, 2 patios and a lounge-bar area. Very quaint, quirky and cultural restaurant with a laid-back and modest but warm atmosphere. This place is a good one... more
The food isn't fabulous, but this is a fun beer & wing night dark pub & restaurant.
Love the food, reminds me of a trip to Mexico. Great staff.
This place is on Osbourne Street and offers a back patio. It specializes in Mexican food but seems to have had problems with kitchen cleanlines lately and this has been mentioned in the newspaper. We will give this place a pass.
I was a big fan of this place once upon a time. Now it's dark, dank and dirty. It smells like the basement flooded and was never cleaned up. The service has been terrible the last few times and we had to call the servers over to refill or drinks. Maybe because we were dining with our teenage children we... more
Been many times as it is a favourite of friends - not ever a personal choice.
Completely average food. Dinner platters are a great deal moreso than nachos. Service has always been rushed, but friendly. Food has never been bad, but also never 'good'.
Always busy but comfortable if you can get a table on the 'west' side - but...

Been there many times in past. Service and food was okay but not really Mexican. Last night was a great surprise! Service was so-so but the food was literally tasteless and lacked any seasoning. Will not return. If you want something closer to mexican food I recommend Taco Bell.
Five business men go for a drink and some wings/nachos and end up being insulted!!! Service by our waitress was slow - in her defense she seemed to be serving a number of tables. When she brought the food she hadn't brought any plates or napkins and when we asked for them, she said she would bring them but had... more
“I have eaten here many times, and keep wondering why I go back. Last night was the last time that I will eat there. Both me and my partner got extremely sick almost immediately after eating Carlos Nachos and a pint of beer. I had diarrhea within 2 hours and my partner had it within 10 hours.”
Ive been going to carlos & murphys for many years. They have the best home made salsa in the world. Ive tried all the nacho platters and ther all great. The nacho platters are huge. They also have the best hot wings in the city. They have half price hot wings between 4-7 pm every day , very very good deal. Ive been goin for probably 10 years with my wife and friends. Highly recommend to anyone... more
lots of food on your plate but I found it to be heavy . the place was packed though so other people obviously liked it better than I did
My husband and I went for lunch and really enjoyed the food. The service was quick and friendly. Although, the decorations were nicely done, the place could use some sprucing up. Everything looked a bit in need of paint and refreshing - it was getting old and worn.
My husband and I went to Carlos & Murphy's restaurant for our first year anniversary. We originally had reservations [someplace else], after sitting in the stuffy place looking at spider webs in the window for 5 minutes we left. We decided to go to your restaurant instead. We had such a good time, it was a Friday night and packed and not many tables were open. When we told the hostess it was... more
Overall a great restaurant to get wings. The salsa before the meal is a great idea!!!!
I Hope this review gets open. I have been coming to Carlos & Murphy's for about 3 years. My family and friends look forward to meeting there. The last time we went24 Oct 2003. We reserved a table for 5 pm. The service was not bad but the food was not the same. 3 of us asked for spicy Beef Tortillas. They were not spicy. Wait says different people have different taste buds toward spicy food.... more
I have been going to Carlos & Murphy's for around 2 years. The Carlos gold wings are excellent (sweet and spicy). The atmosphere is excellent, dark, and cozy, with friendly service. The prices are reasonable, but parking can be a pain in the Osborne area.
Serves Mexican cantina food such as taco salads, hot wings, chimichangas, heaping Carlos nachos and renowned iced margaritas.
Carlos & Murphy's is a Mexican restaurant where most Menuism users came for fun with friends, paid between $10 and $25, and tipped between 15% to 18%.
Carlos & Murphy's restaurant and bar recreates Mexico for you. Some of the best wings in town are found in the only independent Tex-Mex style establishment in Winnipeg. Highly recommended is the chicken chimichangas that enhances the feeling of authenticity. The clientele ranges from professionals and students in the lounge, families in the restaurant, to the jocks at the bar that never seem to... more
Part Mexican cantina, part Irish pub, Carlos and Murphy's is reliably popular and always packed, especially on weekends. The patio was Winnipeg's first, and continues to be among its best – if the weather is nice, you'll definitely want to try for a table outside. Inside, the décor is colorful but a bit rustic, comfortable and festive. The dining room is full of families in the early evening... more
