Ottawa Hotels Capital Hill Hotel & Suites is just steps away from the Rideau Center, Parliament Buildings, Rideau Canal. We offer 150 guest suites and 10 meeting rooms in downtown Ottawa
my very first impression of this hotel is the hospitality and courtesy of the staff. They are so welcome and very helpful. i experienced a night in this hotel last week. that was very comfortable with the clean air, the tasty food. What a nice night!
Location is excellent. Service was good and they responded quickly but we booked the room for three people and had to ask for a set of towels, a glass and a mug for the third person both nights of our two night stay. The tap in the bathtub dripped and the fan did not work well. Everything was tidy but showing signs of wear.
enjoyed our stay - only negative was claim to have free in/out of parking - this wasnt provided. Otherwise very happy with our booking.
Rooms were fairly ok, however air conditioning was below standards. Level of cleanliness was acceptable. its in Downtown Ottawa so places were fairly accessible on foot. Bus stations just few meters away.
Check in was fast and was great to have valet park the car. Great hotel for the price. Dated but clean. No issues with the room. Needed extra towels they were provided promptly. Friendly Staff. Best of all it was close to everything we wanted to see.
Good, average service. Clean & quiet. Comfortable and cozy.
The hotel itself is convenient however the view is of ongoing construction in the building across just 5m which meant awkward window view however no construction noise which is good.
The hotel was excellent, the staff kind, attentive and obliging. The hotel is well placed for the National Arts Centre and the Rideau shopping centre. Our room was clean and very comfortable. The only difficulty at the time was that the free internet was not working in the evening. We were told that this was a temporary problem and would be sorted out in the next few days.
The hotel staff were friendly and helped me find a nice Irish restaurant two blocks away to have nice dinner. The room location on my floor was excellent (nice corner room away from elevator) and I loved the toiletries. The restaurant staff in the morning accommodated my requests, gave me a discount and cooked a lovely omelet. I recommend the restaurant. The only problem I had was that the... more

Stay at this hotel for 6 nights on a recent business trip. Great downtown location, but this hotel is very much in need of renovations and repairs. This can be seen throughout the hotel, from elevator buttons hanging out from the button panel to my outdated room with shoddy carpet and outdated furnishings. The staff were mostly friendly and sometimes helpful however I was very disappointed to... more
The fixtures were a bit old BUT - everything was clean - the staff were all great and very helpful - the bed and pillows were very comfortable - location was excellent We were VERY happy with our stay in this budget friendly hotel and would recommend it to anyone travelling to Ottawa.
Everything fine but no hot water for shower. Front desk helpful and many good restaurants near by.
The room was not that clean and smelled bad. The lobby wad cleand and looked finfe but the room wasnt. Maybe because I chose the cheapest one.
Location was excellent. Enjoyed my stay until the last night. Party going on next room to mine til early morning hours. Talked to clerk in the morning to find out police were called due to complaints for more than just one room. Unfortunate it took so long for the staff to control the noise.
Generally speaking, nothing wrong with this hotel, though a higher quality mattress would be a welcome room upgrade. If you are looking for downtown convenience, it's in a good location to shopping, government and entertainment. But as I indicated, not the most comfortable night's sleep I've ever had. All in all, a pretty average hotel.
We were a family of 4, with a baby. The hotel staff were accommodating and offered friendly service. The overall comfort of the room was pleasant and we enjoyed the stay. We've booked this hotel several times mainly because it's so close to Parliament and the Rideau Centre as well as coffee shops and other shopping areas. It is at the heart of the Captial.
Tv didn't work, dirty socks in closet..say know no more.
I stayed for 3 nights at this hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location of the hotel is excellent with virtually everything I wanted to see and do within walking distance. I didn't use the hotel restaurant as there were plenty of dining choices locally. The one negative to staying in this hotel is the poor condition of the decor. It is very shabby although appeared clean.... more
Really enjoyed our stay. Beds and pillows comfortable. Bathroom a bit on the small size but very clean. Only thing lacking was a small fridge in the room. I usually like having that feature.
We booked this hotel for a 2 night getaway to Ottawa so we could enjoy a full day at le Nordik spa in Chelsea. The hotel has a great location close to Parliament Hill and Byward Market, the room was spacious and clean. However it and parts of the hotel were sadly in need of an upgrade. The kitchen layout was very odd - to use the toaster we had to either set it on the stove or the floor (or in... more
hotel is located at the centre of downtown ottawa. Close to Parliamnet hill and other tpurist attraction. room is clean and comfy. washroom bathtub needs to be checked, there is a water underneath the tub, feels like u r stepping on a waterbed.
The room was musty and old. The bed had no box spring, only a mattress. There was no wi-fi.
The stuff was very helpful and the room was clean and nice. No complains at all.

This place was a disappointment from the beginning - I was there 6 days and tried to change hotels after the first night, but everything in the area was booked. I went and bought febreeze to try and mask the odour - tattered... more

Convenient location right in the centre of Ottawa. You can walk everywhere you are wanting to see. Highly recommend this hotel just for the location. Nothing overly fancy but comfortable. Would stay here again when visiting Ottawa.
I loved being here close to my meetings but also close to food, attractions, and natural settings.
For the location of the hotel (close to Parliament Hills), the price was good. Our family stayed in the suite and it was quite spacious. However, the room was dated (dusty carpet, small/cracked sink) and a bit stuffy (only small window/balcony door facing the street).
The hotel needs major upgrading. The carpet in our room was dirty, the bathroom very outdated, VERY POOR WI-FI. The staff was nice but it did not make up for the overall condition of the hotel
Hotel is old, the rooms were big but we we're hoping to have the option to rent movies in the room. We had our son with us and he got very board. Also, the room was clean but smelled very stuffy. The electricity was acting up in the room...and the WiFi had a very week signal.
We enjoyed the hotel and Ottawa. It has a very good location.
There wasn't conditioner and staff said they would check and bring if there was some. The bed was very uncomfortable. The faucet dripped all night. Elevator seemed old.
The hotel was really dated and needs a lot of upgrades. It was uncomfortably cold in the room and the thermostat was limited in how warm and cool you could make it (I couldnt get it to go above 74F). The thermostats fan also wasnt working properly and kept cutting in and out. The matress is old and uncomfortable and the bathroom has mold and mildew build up and just needs an update. Hotel very old. Rooms clean but hallways smelled quite old and musky. When showering, the water remained in the tub for a long time afterwards. Toilet was slow flushing. Beds were clean. Stayed here from September 7th to the 14th. Staff were very friendly. In fact they had excellent service regarding parking. I found it was pretty quiet despite being over Albert street with all the buses... more
We had a two day stay over Thu Fri. nights. Valet service for the car was excellent. The room was showing some wear especially in the bath. The bed was poorly made, the coffee pot not cleaned and no replacement of coffee supplies. Towels were replaced when they had been hung up after day one to be available for reuse. Reception staff were excellent.
Handle broke on toilet, Fruit Flies in Hotel Room, Carpet moist
Decent hotel for sightseeing or short trips to Ottawa. Staff were friendly. Room was comfortable but with small bathroom. Parking space is limited so they keep yor keys so they can double park and shuffle vehicles around all the time. They don't have a restaurant or shuttle service but everything is very close by. Tour buses full of travellers came in every night causing long line ups for the... more
Great hotel, bathroom needs updating. Parking is a reasonable price but very little space. Staff were great. I would stay again.
This hotel needs a few upgrades, yes it is a bit older but still convenient and somewhat comfortable. I arrived very early in the morning and knew my room would not be ready yet, but asked the very nice clerk if I could leave my baggage there and take off for breakfast and sightseeing for a few hours, no problem. When I returned in the late afternoon the clerk checked me in, gave me my bag and... more
Hotel location is good for sightseeing, room is clean. Good hotel.
Simple. Basic. Clean. It's in the heart of downtown Ottawa and close to everything. It's not fancy but it's all you need. Nice to have balconies off the rooms for fresh air. Would stay again.
Good location, decent and helpful staff. But the hotel needs work. Old elevators, poor wifi in room,Ragged carpets. One expects more if you are paying more than 100 dollars a night!
You may want to make it more clear that people are booking a hotel in a seniors lodge.
We booked and asked for 2 rooms at the same floor, if possible next to each other, 5 months in advance (in March 2014). We didn't get the rooms next to each other or even at the same floor (in August 2014)!
The wifi is really slow at the 8th floor and not working at all at the 9th. Also, only 2 towels for a room of 4 persons... It's definitely not enough.
We were quite disappointing.
Washroom sink not draining and hence was a pain. Seems like the staff knew about the issue and were totally unapologetic or thought I was to blame. The plumber who came to fix it at 11:30 pm did some thing in the washroom and claimed it was fixed. At the same time he said the sink needed to be replaced. The sink was never repaired and we were left to deal with it for the 15 hours we stayed at... more
We stayed here as part of a tour. The hotel is very well located near to lots of eating and drinking places. The market and shopping centre is just a short stroll away. This is a very old hotel, and it seems they've just slapped on layers of paint & carpet freshener to hide its absolutely appalling stench. This is an old hotel in need of updating. We stayed in a 2 queen bed room on the 12th floor. The beds were ok, the room was spacious and the bathroom was average. Although I travel to Ottawa frequently, I had never stayed at this hotel. My assistant made the reservation as this was the only hotel available in the downtown area for the period of my stay. This hotel advertized that it had free WiFi. Technically, they did, but the speed is so slow that 80% of the time I could not even connect. Their response to me was "it will be fixed" by the day after I was to check out. Useless ! They also too forever to clean my room.
This is an older hotel with large rooms. We stayed in this hotel as part of a cosmos tour. The room we had did not have a fridge but some of the other rooms did have a fridge. Some people on the tour also got suite rooms. My photos are of the smaller room which we had which was still... more

Great hotel for the price and location, but it's very dated in the rooms
One block from Capital Hill, the hotel's website stated 'you need to get elected to get any closer' and that sums it up. Great location to walk around downtown Ottawa: the locks, Rideau Canal, Parliament Hill. I had a large room, kingsize bed, nice linens, free wifi, etc. Never heard a sound - very quiet room even though hotel was... more
I never actually stayed here overnight but I did attend meetings here for a couple of days and I did go to Yuk Yuks the comedy bar in the hotel one night.
I can tell you the Captial Hill is less expensive than some other places in the area. It is more of a budget hotel I guess you would say but it is in an excellent location downtown. During my last visit at some meetings the place was...

This hotel has clearly seen better days, so the rooms and furniture are all slightly outdated. However, if you happen to find a good deal (less than $100), you can safely book a room there as it is always clean and rather comfortable. Before leaving Toronto for Ottawa, I went to the Tourist information office and they called up a few Hotels and suggested this one. The price was OK (89 CAD) and location seemed to be good.

I stayed a couple of nights in this suite hotel, though i had a double room not a suite. Suites allow you to do a bit of cooking yourself. The hotel room i had was huge! The location on Albert Street is very convenient to visiting downtown Ottawa as well. Rates are competitive to the area, perhaps a little higher than something outside the downtown area.
It was close to the canal to go skating which is how we found this place. It was a long weekend so all the prices where jacked so we settled. Was not impressed. Had a smell and bathroom was gross, not very clean, bubbles in the walls :s Tiny parking lot
Clean and economical. Perfect location for our stay as we were attending performance at the NAC and a lot of snow. We were given the option of paying for hotel parking or free underground parking nearby. Bedside lights did not work. Would return.
Dark, filthy rooms. We moved out after one night. Gross gross gross, and believe me we aren't princesses. Avoid. Dark, dirty rooms, poor cleaning standards. This and the Travelodge are the WORST hotels in downtown Ottawa.
The hotel is central to tourist hot spots and public transport. The bus stops just across the road and just behind the hotel. I was upgraded to a suite due to length of stay. Which was nice. The suite looks like it could do with some work. I was concerned with the cornices cracked and coming away from the walls... more

Location is great - 2 min walk to the Parliament.
Good value for money, as you get a convenient location for a good price.
Will stop there once again.
Company recently put me up here on a visit to Ottawa, mainly because of location. I was hoping the comments of 'musty' and 'damp' smells were not true. However, upon walking into the lobby, there was certainly an odd smell, and I certainly would describe the smell in the hallways and my room as 'musty'.
I was given a standard...

I was allowed to park my car two days prior to check-in (while I attended a meeting in Montreal) and the price for parking is the cheapest anywhere in downtown Ottawa.
Parking is cramped and over-crowded but valets do a good job of accessing vehicles in short order.
We liked the location to Capital Hill, within walking distance to the Rideau Mall.
Hotel room very clean but some of the fixtures were a little dated. Very quiet although we were across from the elevator. If we went to this area again we would stay at the same hotel if we got the great rate.
Limited parking spaces, we didn't want to loose our spot so we walked everywhere.

The location was perfect for going back & forth to parliament hill. It is within easy walking distance to Rideau Centre, the Market, National Arts centre etc.
The incompetence of the staff in not properly reviewing the payments and insisting that my guests pay after I had booked in, and checked in, and paid with my credit card.
Doors slamming at night Water was kind of brown when I first turned tap on There was no kettle to boil water.
Drawn by the price and location, but because of the uncleanliness and disrepair of the room I would not stay here again. I don't usually write a review, but the experience here was one of the worst I have had traveling.
We felt more positive than many of the reviewers on here - a huge room with the most comfortable hotel beds I've slept in for quite a while. And of course the location is great. Reception staff couldn't have been more pleasant/helpful, and all in all it made for a very pleasant stay. Our only gripe: the bathroom had been... more

Really comfy, great location, very clean, great for families, and great for friends, friendly staff all in all really great hotel for the price. This hotel was named "Beacon Arms" in the '70s & was a well-known hangout for university students engaging in Monkey Business :-). The King (Elvis) had stayed here early-60's. Hotel seems to have been built in the 1970s and is showing its age - dark carpets, dark paneling, noisy old (individual) air-conditioner, slow elevators. Breakfast choice and facilities are very poor I'd rate it as 6 out of 10.
I liked that it was close to downtown attractions. The room was very good and having the kitchenette was very useful.
The best thing about this hotel was the location. Don't get me wrong. The staff were friendly and everything and the rooms were well maintained. By far the most helpful, friendly staff I have encountered in a while! The rooms are a bit dated, but what the heck.....we where there to explore the city and attend the police memorial. Close to everything we wanted to see. Rugs need updating as does bathroom......but all in all good value.
The room was large and clean, especially for an older builder. Staff was excellent and friendly and could answer all our questions. Location was great to walk to everything.
There was no restaurant within the hotel. The exercise equipment was not kept up and didn't work(exercise bike).
I loved Ottawa. It is a very beautiful city & Capital Hill Hotel & Suites is in the perfect location for easy walking to all the cities beautiful historic sites. The suites are ideally situated & having the kitchen area was great. A small supermarket is only minutes away. Ask at the front counter - they are very helpful.

No fan in the bathroom. AC older than us guests. Spiders in the bed and at the entrance. Making up the room for the second night practically inexistent. The place and especially the rooms smell old and funny. Poor internet connection. Guess it was a nice place twenty years ago...

Location - only
Room was not up to date, old vents, not clean, I am sure this is a very
old building, but really the HOtel was booked solid, Is there no room in
the hotel budget to do minor updates. It was a disappointment for sure
that such a great location and the lobby and exterior was welcoming but
room was not, view was horrific. Parking was conveniently located down
the street, but a...

The location was great. The room was very comfortable.
Some maintenance and upgrading of the rooms is required.
They upgraded our room because we complained of cleanliness. The rooms and the entire hotel needs a massive facelift, and air freshener. Good price, for an extra 20$ a night my wife and I would have stayed elsewhere.
so I had to stay here for a week in August as I was working in the vicinity.
When I got to this place it was easy to find. On a major street which was perfect.
Here is the low down....

The suite was very reasonably priced and close to Parliament Hill and the Byway Market area. The room was nice but could use some updating. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. All in all, I would recommend it.
If part of your Ottawa tourist experience is to enjoy lounging around in the hotel, then this is not the place for you. If you are looking for an affordable, convenient location minutes from Parliament Hill, then this is a very good choice.
The rooms are dated and in need of some general TLC. However, the beds were comfortable, the shower...

I stayed in the hotel last night. It is very tired and the decor is awful, but I had a good night sleep. On entering the hotel, you are met with a musty smell which gets worse as you venture into the corridors upstairs!!! Thankfully the room was rather fresher!!
In the morning, it took me 20 minutes to get...

We were based in Hamilton but took our third trip to Ottawa this is the third hotel we have stayed in in this city. The last time was the Lord Elgin with family including 1 3 year old. On the whole this hotel provided a better experience. The place is tired and decor dated but rooms were clean beds were... more
The major plus point for this hotel is the location. The hotel itself is not bad but does need updating and redecorating. Upon arrival we had to park the car and this could have been a bit of a problem as there are not many spaces for a hotel of this size. Luckily we found the one remaining space and... more
This place was horrible. No fridge in rooms, no ice buckets, elevators weren't working properly, 3 drink machines and none of them worked, garbage on the floor in the hallway for the 2 days we were stuck there.
I have been an on again, off again guest at the Capital Hill Hotel for the past year and a half and the service there is really starting to go downhill.
The beddings and furnishings of this hotel are dated, faded and could use some steam cleaning. The hotel is a very old hotel, and this shows. The character starts to wear off when you get sick of the mouldy smells. Once when I stayed there I...

If you're planning on visiting Ottawa to see the parliament hill or walk around downtown, this place is pretty perfect. It's about a two minute walk to the hill. Don't expect a beautiful room or anything; it's pretty neat and clean though. The only time we spent in the room was to sleep, so it was fine for alright.
Was very happy with the ease of finding and parking at this hotel! Our room was very clean, spacious and smelled great! I was pleasently surpised with a small kitchenette and free wireless!Everything was great and extremely close to our concert!
Central location, clean, nice staff and competitive price! I have already recommended this hotel ti family!
Tiny rooms, tiny tiny bathroom, older building with some superficial updates. Very small parking lot, not fun! But lots of things are within walking distance so shouldn't be a big problem.
We had a great experience. The hotel itself is a little old, but the front desk was very helpful, helped us with the bus routes and getting around the city. Great location, we could walk to the canal, restaurants, etc. I'd definitely go back!
Friendly personnel, awesome location. Just note that parking a car will set you back $15 a night.
Bed was amazing. Slept like a baby. Zero complaints. Will be back.... more
Great central location, only a few blocks from many attractions. Hotel is a bit tired, but the room was well-equipped and clean. Reception staff were friendly and helpful. Located on a busy street, so some rooms might be noisy, but mine was fine. This is a good-value choice for a central location.
It is well and Good environment in a good place for every utilities like down town , marketing places... But i don't like the room carpet it isdurty and old you must be change that plus if you charge peoples together rather than asking for parking lot I think isbetter I was satsfeid realy Capital.
Stay over night before heading to Montreal. Arrive at the mid night and difficult to get the parking space. Baht room very small and no place to put amenities.
The building is in somewhat bad shape, but it was one of the cheapest AND right downtown! I couldn't be happier with the stay for my purposes (a place for 4+ people to crash for the Ottawa marathon weekened). Service was great - they put two cots in one of our rooms no charge. Parking was $12 a day if you bring your car.
We stayed 3 nights for the Ottawa Marathon and it was only 2 blocks from the starting line. The good: It was close to everything. We parked the car for the weekend and walked everywhere. Price was very reasonable. The bad: Hotel was clean but everything a little older and worn. Noisy on the side of hotel facing the street. Check in was a little disorganized, particularly the parking. No... more
Great location near Parliment Hill. Friendly staff, directed me to free parking.
This hotel is slightly behind it's competitors standards but competes with low price and central locaction.
“This hotel really needs a renovation. I was disappointed with the comfort of the beds and pillows. The rooms smelled (asked to be changed at one point because bed was droopy) of stale smoke, old carpet. I will never stay at this hotel again, nor recommend it to anyone else.”
Parking disappointed me. Good size room. Trouble with sign in made waiting for the room take longer than expected. I would recommend it to others.
