We stayed on PEI for two weeks, near Cardigan, so we dined at this restaurant a number of times, for lunch and dinner. We did notice inconsistencies in the quality of the food. When it was on the poorer side, it seemed to coincide with staff issues/shortages. But, the staff who are there do go out of their way to... more
A nice setting, but the food was disappointing. Yes it has a large selection of fish items on the menu which was printed too small to easily read, but we are not fish lovers. There we no appetizer choices that didn't include fish. The ribs I ordered were acceptable; the chicken my spouse ordered was not sufficiently cooked, and the... more
On our second trip to PEI we stopped in to eat. What great meals we have had! This time there were 9 of us. Without a doubt, I had my best meal while on the island. I had a craving for fried clams and they were done to perfection. Everyone else was very pleased with their choices as well. Our... more
Fantastic view of the marina - make sure you eat on the patio if the weather allows. Very good food, and the usual wonderful PEI service. Can't go wrong with almost any of the seafood dishes; I had the seafood casserole - very generous portions of salmon, shrimp and haddock, and very very yummy. Reasonable prices too.
We ate outside on patio, overlooking the marina. Waitresses were very helpful and accommodating(as we had our three young children with us). I had the lobster tacos...mmmm grilled succulent with a hint of spice. Wish I had some right now! I highly recommend! Fantastic atmosphere...I could go on and on!
we eat outside on the patio overlooking the Cardigan harbor. I ordered the Lobster cocktail as an appetizer and it was very good. For my main course I had the seafood Linguine and it had generous amounts of scallops, lobster, shrimp with a tasty creme sauce. I will definitely be back for this dish. My wife ordered scallops in a... more
If you are looking for one of the best homemade breakfast's around, this is the place! We have been here a few times, & would be here more often if we lived close by!! Each time, I try a new omelette, this time, the seafood (lobster, haddock, and scallop). F.Y.I......there is a whole lobster in it. Tail and two large... more
We had a late lunch in late June, still not full season, but at 2pm things were still busy. We ordered clams & chips and fish (0ne piece) & chips. The clams were excellent, local and well done. But the fish was well beyond excellent... memorable. Price was normal.
The seafood pasta was good and the crab dip to start was so good you wanted to lick the bowl...or at least I did.
The rest of our food was average. Was not bad...well...might want to avoid the lobster tacos...but ribs were ok.
After the annual dance recital in Montague, the restaurant was still able to squeeze us in for a late dinner with the family and children. Children's menu offered and if you like seafood, check it out. Quaint place on the river. Great menu and apps.
Decided to go to Cape Light for takeout. We ordered the spareribs which are always on the menu and are among the best I have ever had. Lucky for us the special that night were beef ribs so we tried an order of those. They were beyond delicious, now I can't say which one would be my favourite!
Terrible service, waitress didn't know how to open a bottle of wine.
Out of stock on wines and items on the menu
Average food but big prices
Belligerent owner and maitre D - zero desire to make amends for the customer
The food was good, although the service was painfully slow. If you can get a view of the water, it doesn't matter how slow it was!
The hostess was very friendly but it appeared that she was having difficultly keeping up that night - we all have our moments and maybe this was an exception.
We did not get our beverages until dinner was served which we waited over an hour to get.
The food was good and the prices were okay.
This place was recommended...

We dropped in to Cape Light this evening, hoping to get a table.
Parking lot full at 5:40PM, so we knew we were in trouble.
Arriving in the lobby, there was a group of 4 ladies ahead of us waiting, and the servers in the dining room looked as if they were run off their feet - one of the...

My wife and I ate here on the 24th July, 2013 ( The restaurant had been recommended by a B&B owner in an other part of the island).
We arrived without a reservation and asked to see the menu. The manageress quickly supplied those and explained that there were two seperate menus, one for the restaurant and one for the...

Great restaurant and great great food. Our family found this restaurant and it was delicious. The chef Maurice and wife Tammie were very friendly. We all loved the food. I recommend the ribs that were on the pub menu. I also recommend the beef dip, mmmm, it was very good. It was on the diner menu. My mother said that the haddock... more
I have yet to have a meal that wasn't the best it could possibly be. I have been there several times but it is my all time favourite place to go for breakfast. I have had the Lobster Benedict there when in season and it is Great way to start a day. The service is always excellent and Tammy and... more
Three of us ate here for lunch on July 25th. I ordered the seafood chowder and the other guests had the fish and chips. Although the chowder was very good, it was not as advertized on the menu. There were only clams and some white fish in the chowder, no lobster, shrimp salmon or lobster in my chowder. That was... more
My husband and I didn't have a reservation when we found the Cape Light restaurant. The main parking lot and the lower lot were totally full, and we were lucky to get a spot and a table in the dinning room. My husband ordered the Beef Tenderloin which had "a delicious flavor" and I ordered the fried clams which were... more
Exploring the Points East trail we discovered the Cape Light Restaurant in quiet little Cardigan - wow, what a surprise. Hard to imagine how such a great restaurant could exist in this quiet setting. Great selections, fresh ingredients & deliciously prepared - a great kitchen. Friendly attentive service - just an excellent overall experience - a dinner worth the money.... more
My husband and I had dinner at Cape Light on a recent trip to PEI. The next day, about 4:30 pm, we were driving through Cardigan and...er....nature called. We discussed stopping at Cape Light as the restaurant and bar are separated by a foyer where the washrooms are located, with the foyer being just inside the entrance. We considered that... more
The Cape Light is easily the best restaurant east of Charlottetown - and judging by the number of people that visit Cardigan (from Charlottetown and west!) just to have dinner at the Cape Light, I'd say it rivals any place in the capital city. The ribs are without a doubt the best on the Island, perhaps even in Atlantic Canada.... more
My best friend and I went to this restaurant based on a recent magazine review raving about the fish and chips. We went into the dining room and were asked if we had reservations, which we didn't. Offered the choice of one of three tables by the bar which was acceptable. We were given the dinner menu which did not... more
The Bar Clam Chowder...........absolutely the best ever and yes, better than mine! I have never had bar clams as tender as I did here. I love bar clams. The Coquilles St.-Jacques was also absolutely the best ever. Nice, plump, large scallops. The servers were great. Chef Maurice Vautour is a super-fine man with food. Keep up the wonderful work.
We were staying at the Brudenell Resort and decided to go "off-site" to find a restaurant. Well, "offsite" was a three minute drive into the beautiful town of Cardigan. There is a restaurant and a pub on site, and we chose to eat in the restaurant, the pub being quite busy. We had wonderful seating by the windows looking out... more
This restaurant was recommended for its view and good food. Yes, food was good, a little skimpy with the hollandaise sauce, asked for a bit extra, $4.00 was added to the bill. Also ketchup, come on now, waitress should advise customers as most of us would assume there would be no charge.
Service was slow, refills on coffee didn't come...

Great place to take the family for good meals at good prices. Great service. Try the ribs, they are to die for. Good assorment of food. Get a table overlooking the water in the summer and you have a great view of the Cardigan Marina. Lots of action.
This is by far the best restaurant in Canada!! From living in multiply cities across Canada this one tops it all!! The food is Devine, atmosphere is elegant and the service is exceptional! The ribs are so tender you can eat them with a spoon! My husband had the pan fried haddock which is a local favorite and now he... more
My wife and I had an enjoyable dinner. The food was good. Service great! Atmosphere great! They also have WiFi and a nice Pub in addition to the main Dinning room. Try the buffet on Friday and Saturdays.
We were looking forward to a great night out with friends and were told this was the place to have it. It started out very nice, then we had to wait and wait for our appetizers, and then wait some more for drinks. I forgot to mention that we had two small children with us and it wasn't that busy.... more
Wow! What a disappointment. The food was horrible and the service was remedial at best. I ordered short ribs. We were sitting on the other... more
We had two wonderful meals at Cape Light. I had the Philly steak sandwich, wife has onion rings and French onion soup. The food was fine, tasty in fact, but 50 bucks for that is a little insane.
The view was gorgeous. It's very out of the way, stopped he on a drive around the island. If back in the area, would try somewhere new....average food, and average...

I grew up in pei and I was embarrassed by the service and food here... I would never want a tourist to go here. The waittress replied with that... more
The Cape Light is an attractive, chef-run restaurant, overlooking the scenic Cardigan River. The well-put together menu features local produce and beverages, and everything is prepared in-house. We had a lobster roll and fish & chips, which were tasty, well-presented, and filling.

As an Islander who enjoys the many wonderful restaurants we have on PEI year around, the Cape Light is one of my favourite summer places... several visits every season! We were there last summer and had a wonderful dinner, this year it was horrible. The chef is the same, but seems to have lost the ability to cook; frozen veg, over-sauced fish (and very dry), tasteless chicken... and those were the highlights. The service was deplorable. We waited over half an hour just for our drinks, an hour and... more
It was evident this place had a chef on site. The food was cooked to perfection, and everything was a little higher standard than normal family restaurant standard
Although the menu is a little limited, Cape Light has tasty food in a nice atmosphere with a great water view. Service is good, Nice little place by cove with a view. Clean. Recently purchased apparently. Cook has no finesse and questionable skills. Destroyed the beautiful mussels that come from the island. A local referred us to this restaurant. It was wonderful and good value. the service was great and it was good value for money.
Don't know what their dinners are like, but lunch in the pub overlooking the water was very nice.
We are visiting from Guelph, Ontario. I was looking for the perfect spot to eat with the family after a day at the singing sands beach in Basin Head. The service was outstanding and the meal delicious. We enjoyed the BBQ'd lobster. Chowder was brimming with seafood. The fresh warm bread served with butter was a yummy delight. The view... more
Lovely location on the banks of the Cardigan River looking over the marina.
Tammy was our server and was the perfect blend of friendly and attentive without hovering.
Enjoyed our fish cooked to perfection.
If you happen to be in Cardigan P.E.I., treat yourself to a great meal at the Cape Light. A comfortable atmosphere and friendly hosts add to the pleasure of high quality food for reasonable prices.
