Specialty pub ... go there if you are cool and eccentric

They've got everything out of the ordinary. They even have "Prairie Oysters" at their annual special event. Nobody can top that. Go there for an absolutely spectacular selection of brews.

worldly beers

You can get a Beer Passport here. Travel the world in 100 beers in a year, and get your name on the wall. It's a great place to try beers of the world.

Not the greatest

Went here on a recommendation from a friend - we were two couples out for dinner. In fairness, our waitress was new. Really liked the booth we got - spacious and private. We ordered 1 beer, 3 glasses of wine, 3 orders of bison sirloin and 1 order of meatloaf. Drinks came out no problem, but our waitress informed us... more

Good Place for Drinks
October 20, 2013

I went with a group of friends who were attending a conference to Buzzards for dinner and drinks. The food was good and reasonably priced. The waitress did have some problems answering questions about the menu and forgot to bring only my drink at one point, but it was very busy and she quickly brought it to me when reminded.... more

Was expecting more
July 20, 2013

Made reservation during our trip to the Stampede. Granted we went two days before the stampede. But the service was horrible, my drink horrible. The food, limited due to the food, was okay. It was not busy so the service should have been better.

Thanks for the hospitality during the floods
July 07, 2013

This is probably a good place to go if you like to drink various types of beer. As far as the food goes, it is pretty typical pub-grub. We came here because it was one of the few places that was open post-flood. The staff were very friendly. We would come back here because it is convenient to where we... more

Friendly, good food, well priced
June 29, 2013

Very difficult finding suitable place open after Calgary's dreadful floods, evidence still obvious. Buzzards was open and welcoming. Looked like locals were happy. Very friendly staff who changed a dish for me....no problems. We thought it good value, beers excellent, wonderful choice and great knowledge by staff.
Even managed a dessert.....
No complaints

Friendly staff and quite a huge place as you walk in .... Great place to hang out after work and shoot pints !! Average prices for bier... more

I was briefly the Chef here so maybe my opinion is a little biased but I'm not an employee anymore so I think I can speak my mind.

Buzzards and Bottlescrew Bills has been around for almost 30 years and that is really saying something in our little city of Calgary. It's a staple and it's been consistently doing great for years. This place is family owned and operated and really does care... more

Ok Food-Ok Service
August 20, 2012

We spent one night in Calgary at the end of our week long tour with Rocky Mountaineer. Truly not impressed with Calgary, nothing was open after 6:00 pm. This little place was behind our hotel so we tried it for dinner. It was ok. The server was nice, though slightly clueless. I ordered the sirloin with blue cheese and instead... more

Good food -- good beer
November 16, 2011

Somehow I'd always overlooked this restaurant, but on two recent visits was impressed by it. The beer listing is impressive and the servers seem to know their beers. The food menu is also appealing and the food good.

Did you know that one of the largest oil feilds ever discovered in the north sea was named after this place?
After over 30 yeas in operation the place has great stories attached to it.
Another must do is attending the annual testical festival held every summer and enjoying the so called "prairie oysters" featured. (Prairie Oysters are what's left... more

Great food, great people and great service
May 05, 2010

I had an amazing time at Buzzards and their pub counter-part Bottlescrew Bills. We need somewhere fun and casual to take a large group of our staff out and this place came highly recommended. The staff had no problems taking our large reservation and their service was phenomenal. Their menu allows for a fusion of classic cowboy-style food with a... more

Terrible Service and Overpriced
April 18, 2009

Only 1 person to serve and run bar. Waited a long time to be served and Steak was average at best..but prices were high. Many other restaurants nearby with better service, atmosphere and prices.

Decent place!
July 09, 2008

Ate their with my wife. My dinner lamb chops was good and so were the vegetables with them. My wife ordered a bison burger medium. Waiter said he would try but the cook failed badly over cooked. Prairie Oysters were OK. This place did not seem like an authentic cowboy bar either. Buzzard’s Breath was good. Alberta microbrew crops are pretty lame but this one was good.

Befitting a cowboy-oriented restaurant, the rustic decor features wooden furniture, a wealth of Western artifacts, and woven blankets hung across the windows to subdue the light. The menu features dishes that cowboys would've known, along with updated fare that's more in keeping with contemporary tastes. Steaks are prominent, and their specialty, the sirloin, comes in three sizes. You'll also... more

Most Calgarians only \"go cowboy\" for the two weeks surrounding the annual Calgary Exhibition and Stampede, but western culture is still deeply ingrained in the city and region. This place is decorated with barn wood, barbed wire, western oil paintings and prairie antiques. A moderately priced menu offers buffalo steaks (CAD23.99), Buckaroo Beans and fried bull calf testicles, more delicately... more
