Recommended by a local (along with the wine shop next door). The people were really nice at both places! My husband had the meat omelette with Montreal smoked meat and I had a Vietnamese sandwich called Banh Mi. They also have fun clocks on the walls! Excellent food and nice people!
Thoroughly impressed with the ambiance, en pointe poutine with excellent service. Not so excited by the price, but I was celebrating, and I sure got my money's worth. $10+ for poutine with smoked meats, but let me tell you it was everything I ever wanted from poutine. They let me hang out and read the paper, had a nice sign about their values and getting to know your neighbors, and I think they... more
I try to come in for a special treat once a month or so -- the outstanding Smoked Meat Sandwich. It is about a half pound with a nice big sour Kosher dill pickle, some ripple chips and some tasty slaw. Bread is always fresh and perfect light rye. Closest to Montreal quality I've had in Victoria. The only other close in Victoria is at La Belle Patate. Love the location right around the corner... more
Stopped in today to grab a quick bagel as my stomach was upset and it was the only thing I thought I could keep down. I asked them to go easy on the cream cheese. It cost $4.15. They told me it would take 5 minutes despite the fact that the place was almost empty. I asked to purchase a... more
Seen a review from someone saying the pancakes were good! They're not! Two measly flat pancakes with a couple of bits of overlooked cold bacon with cold runny maple syrup drowning the pancakes! To charge £6.95 as well is shocking!!
Slow Service
The cup of tea was nice.....

Visiting Victoria, we ate breakfast here two days. Each day we ordered different things and all the food was excellent. The chai is awesome! We thought it was neat that the locals came in with their own coffee cups.
The owners were very nice and provided helpful information about the city. We will definitely go back on our next trip to Victoria.
We ate breakfast here twice on our visit to Victoria. Both times the food was excellent. Make sureyou try the chai! The owner was very nice and gave us lots of helpful information about the city. We were impressed that many of the locals came in with their own coffee cups and were obviously regulars. We will definitely go back... more
If you are near downtown Victoria, early on a rainy day (are there non rainy days in Victoria ?) and hungry then the Broughton Street Deli is a great option. Classic no-nonsense egg / bacons and toasts plates with generous portions. Everything was good and tasty. Maybe a bit on the expensive side but cheaper than the hotel equivalent that's... more
We came across this wonderful eatery when looking for a light lunch in Victoria. It is fairly small and the the folks are very friendly. The Montreal smoked beef sandwich was fresh sliced and the rye bread was fresh. The coleslaw had a hint of sweetness to it that I really liked. The butternut squash soup was thick, hot and... more
My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to eat and saw a sign on the road so we thought we'd give it a try. I ordered the breakfast sandwich that came with egg and cheese and bacon (I had bacon on the side) and a bowl of veggie curry soup. My boyfriend ordered their "famous" Montreal smoked meat... more
The sandwiches are a little on the expensive side, but the quality of the bread and ingredients they use is great. The "Montreal" meat was great, and the tuna tasted fresh and light.
We stopped in for breakfast it was average but a good deal compared to other places.
Best omelette every, and an excellent breakfast sandwich as well. Service was the best, and they even have good coffee. Will go back there again the next time we are in Victoria!
Came across this place by accident but what a great find. It's a place where locals eat and I can see why. The breakfasts were good and really reasonably priced.
Nice people, decent food, reasonable price. We;d go back if we could.
We went twice for breakfast and had items from their breakfast specialty menu. Staff was friendly and efficient, and the food was great.
I live a block ay and love to stop for takeout smoked meat sandwhich with coleslaw and a cherry coke.
While the service is excellent, I didn't find the food to be anything special.
I want to go back because they are so nice, but might opt for some of the other options in the area that are a little more creative with their food.
For those looking for a simple lunch, this would be a good place to stop. The food may be simple, but it is relatively good.
Seeing as this place is two doors down from work, it makes sense that I frequent this place for lunch.
+ Pastrami sandwich: not bad at all, excellent with the Russian mustard
+ Club sandwich: get it on whole grain with avocado -- full of crunchy goodness
+ Chicken noodle soup: fits the bill
This is a sandwich joint with pretty limited/regular options, but it does what you need it to do for...

The Broughton Street Deli is an essential part of the downtown lunch scene. The friendly owners remember everyone who walks in the door, even if they've only been there a few times.
And they happen to make by far the best Vietnamese Sandwich I've tasted in Victoria. And not only do they have the standard meat variety, but they have a delicious barbecue tofu version as well. It happens to cost...

While walking around Victoria we started getting hungry for lunch. With all the restaurants around the downtown area we had a hard time picking a place. In the sidewalk we saw a sign for split pea soup. We decided to wander in and take a look at the full menu and I'm glad that we did. We ended up getting... more
Oh Broughton Street Deli, my sweet little lunch mistress. Barely noticable from the street, inside they hold a tasty little secret. Montreal smoked meat sandwiches, paninis, soups, baked goods, and friendly staff. Try their veggie sandwich on marble rye with their curry vegetable soup. You won't be disappointed.
