I have always been disappointed and somewhat mystified by what is considered as being a scone in vancouver but not any longer. in my opinion, best scones in the city and paired with the amazing service my friend and I
recieved from the very attentive and enthusiastic clerk, I'm looking forward to the next time I have a chance to...

I was excited to hear about a local afternoon tea after a relative recommended The British Store to me. My mother and I went the other day, and while nothing was bad, everything was "just fine", or as the star rating would say "A-OK".
We were served an unnamed black tea in a large pot, no choice on the type. It was actually a decent black tea so no complaints there. The food was also fine,...

I don't understand why this store only has 3 stars and not at least 4 or 5. Clearly something is missing, however, everything that I wanted was found. I don't care what anybody says, there's a difference between American Cadbury's chocolate and the English version. There is a quality and taste difference. To be honest 'cause of this I rarely eat American chocolate. There is a candy store by my... more
This is a store/cafe with a British Atmosphere and the food is great! A lot of imported food. Come get the Guiness flavour HP sauce as I hear they may not make it anymore!
Too expensive even by British standards. I ordered coffee ( small cup and pastie that costed me more than $7.00 + taxes. I won't go back to this place. The British store at Steveston was my favorite but they're not there anymore.
I haven't bought anything from the store, but their pies are delicious! One of the few places around you can buy lunch for less than $10!
I know everyone loves to trash talk this place but I just love to love it! The staff are really nice and always helpful, there's a diverse enough range of stock to make me feel painfully homesick and elated at the same time, plus they sell PROPER BACON **AND** BATTENBURG. Oh happy days. I 'm withholding one star *only* because they don't have Highland Toffee bars, and that is what my cheap,... more
I went in looking for something interesting to drink or snack on. I found just that! awesome little snacks and drinks the UK. I found it very expensive. There was also a sit down diner.
The set up for afternoon tea reminded me of typical English cafe ... wooden tables and chairs, nothing fancy. And both the cream tea and high tea were pretty typical also although a bit disappointing as except for the sandwiches and scone everything came out of a packet. However the price was right. The high tea ($12.99) was served on... more
They have lots of British sweets and chips, but are often out of the tea I am looking for. They told me it would be there in a month, but then it wasn't, so I ended up buying it online for the same price. There's a few Corrie Street items.
Whether you're a Brit or not, this is a funky place to visit. There are antiques galore, bringing back memories of yester-year. If you happen to be English, you'll love the imported foods and goodies. Friendly service.
I really like the Sherlock Cafe! A fun spot to sit and have a pot of tea. We tried the cream tea and the scone and clotted cream was definitely the star of the show. Pretty cheap on the bakery side overall.
I really appreciate the grocery as well. The prices are a bit high, but for direct import, what can you do? Despite Canada being part of the commonwealth, it's next to impossible to find...

This will mostly be a review on the High tea at Sherlock's café which is inside of The British Store.
There were two full tea services available: cream tea ($7.99) and high tea ($12.99). We got the high tea which included tea, scones, sandwiches, cookies and battenberg cakes.
The tea was served in a Brown Betty tea pot that was nestled in a flannel cozy. We were served in utilitarian mugs...

Brilliant! Nice to see some true British stuff. Some things are a bit pricey, but, after all, they are imported!
If you're British or just a fan of things British this is the store for you. They have everything from football gear to brown sauce and steak and kidney pie. They also have a nice little cafe if you want to stop by for a snack.
Wooooo! A place to buy aniseed balls! And I must be the only person that buys them, because they know me when I get there. Honestly, their stuff is pretty pricey, I can find a lot of that stuff for a fraction of the cost at the local Indian store or sometimes even in Safeway (ie. Vegemite), but it's nice that it's there and their pies are alright. Not the real tomato sauce, but it'll do.

British groceries. You might think you have not one iota of UK nostalgia in your body - until you go here. Suddenly you will be raving and gushing and over the moon to have found a special treat.
Flea market stylings of the display cases around the room just add to the experience.
Football (soccer) paraphernalia for the masses.
I like this place. Just got back from another trip back to the UK and first stop next day was Sherlock's for some tea and pasties. Buy the rashers MMMM and the baked pies, sausage rolls etc are delicious. I always skip the overpriced crisps, candy etc save for the tetley double strong tea bags. Nice owner and staff, I am a fan
Ah where else near to me will I get my British snack fix mcvities peguins and digestives, Irish tea and jelly babies. Yes, doctor who fans they have jelly babies and jammie dodgers. I honestly don't mind the brick a brack or the knock nacks about the store though I wish there was a greater food selection instead. Or, at least other British imports like books, clothing and tv series. I'm okay... more
Things to love here and things that just make me scratch my head. Many of the products here are what you'd purchase in the UK and not a watered down bland version of the brand name. Case in point Ribena juice concentrate. The version you'll find at some asian supermarkets just does not taste the same as the genuine article offered here. Just be prepared to open your wallet wide and swallow your... more
For the most part this is a great place. They have recently done some renos and it appears they have taken out some of the merchandise that I loved going in there for. It's gone a little downhill. Not sure if they have changed ownership or if it's the addition of the coffeeshop that bothers me.
As a long-time British expat, I consider myself a connoisseur of these sorts of places.
The good:
- Normally "British foods" shops are either like wholesale commercial establishments or hoity toity tea/tourist "shoppes." This is neither.
- They stock some hard to find goodies:
- Monster Crunch & Hula Hoops!
- Caramel Bon bons!
- Sherbert Fountains!
- Lots of pickled things!
- Battenburg Cake...

This shop is probably heaven for expatriates homesick for Old Blighty. The centre of the store is filled with racks of football gear - British team gear, that is - including jerseys and players' cards and whatever else my English nutters might require to be properly accessorized when cheering on their team when their games come on the telly at 4 a.m. Pacific time.
To the right and towards the...
