Nothing has changed with this place. Horrible service. Rude, long waits, food sub par. I'm giving up. Tried to give it ANOTHER chance. Never again.
My wife and I tried the haddock and chips at lunchtime. The fish was cooked precisely with a very nice crust. However, the fish does lack the taste of freshness as it is flash frozen. The fries were hand cut, but were on the greasy side. Service was excellent and the waitress seemed genuinely interested in our comments. We found... more
Stopped in last night at 730, they close at 8PM. Both my wife and I ordered the one peice Haddock and the meal was excellent and quick. You knew this came right from the fryer as it was steaming hot. Just right! Fries are real fresh potatoes not previously frozen. Fish tender and flaky not dried out. Will be trying... more
There is only one place in Calgary that I know of that does chips the way these guys do and thats here. I have to make these at home because I can't find them anywhere else.
Everyone Else is focused on the awful "NY Fries" with their skins one and mediocre in size. That is just LAZY and poor tasting....

When you first walk in, you look up at the TV and Coronation Street (or another British show) is playing on the TV and there are many people, half of which have to be of English origin, sitting at their tables.
Now, the British Chippy is known for their fish and chips... Which are the best I have had! The...

The servings are enormous, the fish is delicious and the sides are great. We had the fish and chips with fries and mushy peas. Servers are polite and friendly, service is a bit slow, but well worth the wait if you're in the mood for awesome fish and chips. Glad to have this gem in our neighbourhood.
Had heard good things about the British Chippy and tried to go for lunch several times early in the week. They are open for lunch only from Wednesday to Saturday (I think). The website is good and gives lots of information. Finally we went on a Saturday and found it in small business area surrounded by residences. It is fairly... more

Everyone knows that fresh fish shouldn't smell fishy, but that's exactly what many 'seafood' restaurants smell like. The British Chippy is NOT a seafood restaurant it is a proper British Chip Shop. The decor is basic, but the food and service are excellent.
1) Fish: 10 out of 10. My Haddock was fresh, flaky, and a good sized portion.

This chippy is a hidden gem for those of us seeking an authenic British chippy experience. The quality of the food is top notch, served perfectly as both eat in or take out. Always packed full of expats enjoying the atmosphere of a real chippy.
Five of us went to the British Chippy on a cold Saturday night around 6 pm. The place was packed! We waited to get a table which took longer than the server expected so she took our order while waiting. We received our meal shortly after we got our table. The haddock and the cod were both great. The chips... more
