I was in Edmonton with three girlfriends on a girls' weekend. We stopped by for brunch and didn't have to wait long for service and a table, even with the market litterally just outside.
The food was good, the service was friendly, the decore was just the right mix of clutter and chic.
Awful. I do not recommend. We came here after the farmers market. We had terrible service. Waiter brought us coffee. Then he brought cream. Then he went to the computer. Then he brought us spoons.
I had the cornbread, which was a greasy mess. I got through 1 and that's all I could stomach. Who puts raisins in cornbread. Honestly.
My mother had shepherds pie. She said it was good for the first...

This place is great been here twice and I want to go back.
They take one of the most simple dishes, Macaroni and Cheese, and bring it to the next level. A dish I wouldn't normally order at a restaurant due to how easily I can make it at home. They make it in such a way you will have dreams about it for months and will go back for more again and again.
Their daily specials, again something I...

Good food, slow service. Would give 3.5 stars. We were on vacation so we weren't in any hurry, which is good because neither was the wait staff. Although when they did manage to make it to our table they were very nice. Both the regular and vegetarian shepherd's pies were very good. For dessert the peanut butter pie was delicious, very rich but perfect split between 3 of us.
Give this place a pass. Utterly overrated and over-hyped. Went the Market last Saturday and instead of our ritual Frank Frank's, tried the Blue Plate. We were greeted, eventually, by some scruffy doofus ( I guess dirty jeans, runnners and tee-shirts are now in vogue), had a surly waitress; first choices were sold out; tuna melt was inedible and soup was tepid and flavourless.
We should of had...

French fries soggy not crispy. Mac n cheese so bland and veggie burger only ok without much flavour. Not worth it.
We went here for a late lunch on Sunday. Like the funky/hipster atmosphere and decore. The food was really fast coming and was delicious. I had the grilled veggie panini with sweet potato fries. Really yummy food!
We waited an inordinately long time for our food. The people next to us came after we did and were almost done when our food arrived. One of the other waitresses noticed and said it was ridiculous how long it was taking and we should get at least 50 off the bill. When the bill came it was for the full amount and when we questioned it our waitress told us that there was no discount & the other... more
I live the vibe of this bar. Friendly staff, excellent selection of local beer, reasonable prices. First time I ate there I had Shepherds Pie with a side salad. Salad was great, loved the crispy capers for croutons. The pie itself was a little heavy on mashed potato and the meat was no saucy enough but overall a great dish. My friend had the penne and loved it. Next day went back and had the... more
Blue Plate Diner is located on 104 Street just off of Jasper Ave, and 104 Street is the cutest little street ever. This is also where the downtown farmers market is held in the summers, just a fun little FYI for ya. Although it was Sunday and meters are free, they were all full when we got there and we had to pay for parking in the parking lot behind the diner (boo!). Luckily for us the Blue... more
This is perhaps one of the most over-praised restaurant in the city. The food quality ranges from sub-par to mediocre ... and when the bill arrives one can't help but be amazed at the considerable "hipster premium" reflected in the price. In other words, they charge way to much for something you could really just make yourself. I had the shepherd's pie... meh.

Food is great, servers are terrific. The only thing I don't like is that it is very expensive.
Had to wait for 25 min to get served but they apologized and gave comp drinks because of the mix up. Food was Very Good. I had Teriyaki stir fry with shrimp and my husband had BluePlate Meatloaf. Loved the quaint warehouse feel of the building and old style tables and lamps.
Blue plate has a 70's classic diner feel that brings you back to some great childhood memories (if your an old f@!t like me).
The food is one of the best places for lunch and brunch that also has a lot of celiac and vegan options available. For breakfast I would highly recommend their eggs Benedict. They are always cooked to perfection and the hollandaise sauce is very tasty.

This is a regular place we visit when my parents are in town. It has a fairly simple menu, with improved variations on the types of meals you eat growing up, at fairly decent prices. The bulk of the mains are between $15 and $20, with my favourite, the apple and sage pork chop at $24. They will also will have a special that will often draw me in.
In the most recent visit, I tried the meatloaf,...

I went to blue plate diner twice. The service is great, the decor is cute with local artist's work displayed on the walls and the food is ok. Nowhere close to bad but nowhere close to fantastic. Great atmosphere, and good food. Our server was awesome and the service overall was fantastic.
Pretty pricey for what I got though: $18 for two eggs and a handful of grapes... (I substituted fruit for potatoes and paid $2 for that, too). Then their coffee was $3.25 and it wasn't out of this world good (only ok).
Overall? Wouldn't go back unless they lowered their prices.
The food here is really good, and the service is, too. It's a nice, retro atmosphere. The only drawback for me is that it is really loud in here when it's busy and it's hard to have a conversation. Not the best place to go if you want to "catch up".
Tasty comfort food in a warm, funky space. The vegetarian shepherds pie was flavorful, generously sized portion. Great sweet potato fries with siracha aioli. Locally made ice cream with chewy oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Good service, checked in regularly.
The Blue Plate Diner has long been a favourite of mine. I agree some of the menu items can be a little hit or miss, but I do love they offer many vegetarian/vegan options, particularly for breakfast which is a hard find in this city. The veggie burger is definitely not my favourite, and usually I'm crazy about veggie burgers.. but I think this one is made from beets which gives it a strange... more
104th street is quickly becoming the new hip place in Edmonton, and the Blue Plate Diner is leading the way. The atmosphere is very homey and comfortable, and the food is definitely enjoyable. One of the best places to eat downtown!
I was in town on business and asked the concierge for a good vegan friendly option nearby. It's in the middle of a nice block downtown and has outdoor seating available.
There weren't tons of vegan options and the dishes were pricier than what we wanted but we were tired from our flights and didn't feel up for finding somewhere else.
The service was fine. My problem is with the dishes...

I'm visiting from Vancouver and was told by more than one person that I should eat at Blue Plate Diner. I'm so glad I did. Our server was fast, had a good sense of humour and checked in on us often. Solid restaurant in Edmonton's downtown. "Funky", kitschy decor. Decent vegetarian food offerings (I think I tried the shepherd's pie, which was tasty). Big portions and reasonable prices. Service was friendly, laid-back, and they don't rush you, but you might need to do a bit of flagging down for bills, water, etc.
You can't really go wrong with Blue Plate's kitsch-cool decor and homey comfort food, set along 104 St's thriving dining and bar scene. Meatloaf, Mac n cheese, veggie burger, Shepherd's Pie, beet chocolate cake all winners. Good beer and wine list. Can be noisy inside, small outdoor front patio is awesome in summer, service is friendly but can be clumsy and slow. A fav among locals!
We have eaten there twice for breakfast and recently had a late supper after a movie.
I really recommend breakfast there, preferably while visiting the Downtown Market. It is pretty standard but done well, using fresh local ingredients.

I like the food, price-point, location and quaitness of the Blue Plate, but I don't go often because I don't like having to yell into my friends face if we want to converse. Great service and great food, but far too noisy to carry a conversation.
The good; beer was cold, grilled cornbread apoy was nice & hubby's steak cooked appropriately to request. The bad; our server seemed bothered we were in her section, salmon spring rolls interesting but not seasoned, mac & cheese inedible, elk/bison burger overcooked & dried out. No one cared enuf to ask how anything was, even tho lots left on plates, & not because portions were over generous.
The food was fantastic and the service was good. I would definatley go back again.
I'm a long-time lover of Blue Plate; I fondly remember the veggie enchiladas... I wish they still made them! Their weekly specials are usually a hit with me - I like the option of having meat and a vegetarian entree available.
This past year the service has been a little up and down; staff seems to be changing often (or maybe I'm not there as frequently as I used to be).

I liked the veggie meatloaf. It was very dry needed more sauce. My husband sent back his meat meatloaf. He couldn't swallow it as it was dry. amazing ice cream. Service was good, nothing special
We are a pescatarian family and were looking for a good place for dinner where we wouldn't be stuck with the grilled cheese. We went to Blue Plate because of recommendations on Trip Advisor. When a meat eater and a vegan get married it's not easy finding a restaurant that meets both our needs. The Blue Plate dinner has great choices for both. I had a wonderful Apple Pork Chop and my sweetie had the vegan loaf. Top it off with a big slice of moist chocolate cake and it makes for a wonderful evening. Intimate seating with a bit eclectic ambiance adds to the fun. Highly recommended.
We went to Blue Plate Diner because one of our group is vegetarian. The restaurant is definitely veg friendly. I guess you could say I've had an interesting mix of experiences here. While I do love the fact that it's a unique local restaurant, I haven't always been fond of my meal. I had the special, which was breakfast poutine, and also Caesar salad. They both were outstanding. The poutine was slightly salty but I'll definitely be

The blue plate diner was not at all what I expected. The food was microwaved..super soggy fries and the food just looked limp and unappetizing. Even the salads looked pre made hours before and were wilted. Staff made excuses and were unapologetic and rude. Will definitely avoid at all costs.
The food was excellent, we loved the penne with sausage and came back the next day for the salmon. Perfectly done and lovely spicing. The wine list is very good and the wines available by the glass were very well chosen. Love half price wine Mondays! Definitely worth trying and very conveniently located in downtown Edmonton.
Blue Plate Diner provides exceptional service and quality food in a timely manner in a busy, bustling downtown core. The environment is noisy, but cozy; relaxed, but energetic; home-like, but rustic and fancy. All round a great experience.
Great local find!
The atmosphere is laid back, the staff are friendly and the food is amazing... Excellent bang for your buck
I really enjoyed my time at blue plate! Unfortunately they were all out of their special at the time, but I had the bison burger and it was phenomenal! Went to this restaurant for the first time last night for supper. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a reservation and were promptly seated at our table. Waitress was rude, no friendly smile at all, you don't feel welcome when siting down to look at the menu. Food was no better than eating at Humpty or Denny. The Blue Plate Diner was a good experience due to the ambience and service! The food was not up to par! We were there on a busy Friday evening and the energy in the diner was electric and fun. Our food was dry and underwelming! Too bad...........I'm not sure I could recommend the diner to a friend.

I took my son (16) for lunch not too long ago. It's was fantastic! The building is part of the warehouse district and had tons of character. The good was delicious, very fresh and huge portions. I've only had lunch there but I'm dying to have supper there too! I highly recommend it.
The blue plate diner is a staple of mine, as I have eaten here many times. The food is delicious and affordable, and the atmosphere is both casual and fancy at the same time. Feel confident in both taking a business associate or an old friend here for lunch or dinner!
This restaurant has an interesting ambience. It is cozy, homey and the food is consistent. Serving staff are professional and competent. I will return to this restaurant for these reasons, not because any one area is outstanding but rather overall you can't go wrong.
Such a diverse selection of food options. Staff is super friendly and incredibly accommodating. They have a nice patio and inside all different styles. SO great I'd definitely return again.
Great food at a really cool spot. Will be back and will reccomend to friends.
Slightly expensive for a diner, but great location and worth the trip for dessert. The mac and cheese was ok but I wouldn't have it again.
Classic diner cuisine with the modern touch.
Great staff, excellent food and service.
My only complaint is that it gets awfully loud in there. Too many hard surfaces.
I have celiac Disease. I checked the online menu before booking & noted the GF choices. The waitress drew a blank on GF when I arrived & the menu only showed VG. Food was decent and came out quickly. Hit and miss on quality depending on the menu item. The service was a little too casual and slow for my liking. Decor is odd and bathrooms were in need of serious repair.
We were late in deciding where to go & found the Blue Plate Diner at the perfect time for us. For my guest this was his first time eating here. The food was excellent as he was hoping for a hardy but delicious meal. Excellent service all around. I would recommend it anytime.

Concrete walls made for loud, echoing conversation. Not the greatest environment for a meal to chat and visit. A little pricey for the amount of food served.
This is such a surprising find in the heart of a very northern city. When you walk in, you smell wonderful garlicky odours and see a very bistro atmosphere with retro tables and a kitsch environment. We went to Blue Plate for my sister's birthday dinner. We brought my 2 year old nephew along, he is so squirmy and active but the waitress was understanding and so kind. Our food was amazing, the portion size was just right so that we didn't feel stuffed. We had a really great time!
I have been a fan of the Blue Plate Diner for years, but this trip was the exception. We were all first timers here. All 6 of us were happy! Veggie burger, steak, mac and cheese, caesar salad, bison burger were all good. We loved the sweet potato fries! Most were so full they had no room for dessert, so good portion sizes.
Although the food was alright, it wasn't fantastic and certainly wasn't worth the price. The service was so-so and we felt rushed even though the restaurant was very empty. The drinks were also over priced. All in all we were quite disappointed and probably won't go back. Those first impressions are a killer.

Food was very greasy. I had at least 3 tablespoons of oil pooled at the bottom of my plate when I ordered the salmon. My husband's food was also very oily. The flavors were nothing special. Glassware was dirty. Service was ambivalent. I would not go back.
It was busy so service was a little bit slow. LMy husband sent his meatloaf back because in his words dryer than saw dust ( they did remove it from the bill). Funky restaurant in downtown Edmonton. I dined on a good vegetable "soup of the day" and tried the elk and bison burger, it was nice. I topped up the meal with a decent chocolate ice cream and drank a pint of good IPA. They have a few interesting vegetarian/vegan items in the menu. Very conveniently located, a few steps from... more
This is a quaint smallish restaurant with great food and excellent service. The tables and chairs are vintage as well as the overall atmosphere. This is an eating out experience for friends and family. I do not recommend occasions where one expects quiet and private dining. This place is always packed and loud.
This restaurant has good food, funky decor and reasonably attentive staff. During very busy times (e.g. Sunday Brunch) the service can be a bit slow.
The coffee is good, and the menu has a decent variety of choices, including some vegetarian dishes which is important to one of our family members.
Because there are no 'soft surfaces' in this restaurant,...

the dining menu is excellent, portions are good, food is fresh, service could use some work - a little to much attitude and not enough customer service/ attention
Blue Plate Diner is my standby.
As a vegetarian, I'm grateful there are plenty of choices. The lentil and nut loaf is a hearty dish for supper. For lunch, the veggie burger is among the best in town.
There are also some amazing specials with wine pairings from Devine Wines. The diner uses ingredients from local farmers as well.

Comfort food at it's best. The Blue plate has some great options for vegetarians. The green cornbread is phenomenal, grilled in maple syrup it is highly addictive. I have tried a number of the vegetarian options, my favorite being the mac and cheese. The Cavatappi noodles are great, and the baked cheese sauce with fresh tomatoes is wonderful. The atmosphere... more
Yes that is correct Folks! Do not clean your specs, I paid $22.50 and I would never order such a thing in the first place but I was so craving a burger and the menu really made it sound like there was no other. The problem with this place is you have to 'build your burger' to start with a... more
From the looks of it, this is mainly a breakfast/brunch spot.
It's got a funky retro hippie-ish vibe that is definitely not for everyone.
The menu had more than a few good vegetarian options. I've had the lentil loaf with really solid veggie gravy as well as a few other items that were fine.
I can't speak to other reviewer's...

My wife and I ate there together once, then I had to go back the next day and try their Meatloaf sandwich.
First visit we tried their Mac n Cheese with a side of Cornbread that was grilled with maple syrup. Excellent food and service. The very next day I had a Bbq Meatloaf Sandwich that contained an inch and...

Great atmosphere, walk in for Sat AM brunch, no wait for the table even though it was busy. Good gluten free menu, and even GF bread. Only complaint was that there were different items on each plate that were luke warm to cold was the only complaint.
This place sucks wtf do Edmonton people know about food y'all think this place is good. It's expensive the servers are wack and the food is sub par. Location is great! Wish it was operated by cool kids who like food instead though
This is the best place I've found in Edmonton for comfort food in a welcoming environment that clearly labels food as gluten free, vegetarian, etc. A simple wine list that isn't fancy, but nice enough complements really, really good food. My favourite is the salmon on a bed of fresh vegetables. One of the best things for me, as a... more
This was my second visit to the Blue Plate Diner; I had discovered this casual eatery during a business trip last year. This time I had the meatloaf sandwich, but asked for it to be served without the bread - hearty and delicious! The Diner offers a small but respectable wine list. The server was so helpful and the service... more
Service was atrocious. Not expensive but not cheap either. Waitress had no idea if wines were sweet or dry. Asked for taste and she said there was a $2.50 charge! Wouldn't need one if she knew how to do her job. Noisy but not in a fun way all staff were apathetic. Would never return.
Will not return mostly because of cleanliness. Food not worth the money. Service bad, but most of all it wasn't clean. We waited a long time for our order. Had to wipe off our seats ourselves before sitting down. Noticed grunge on the floor, particularly along edging and in corners. Staff were in attentive. Coffees were lukewarm and when we... more
If you're looking for a good hearty meal, try the Blue Plate. The homemade Mac and Cheese is amazing!
We were taken here by locals for a quick business lunch. The location was great and the tree-lined street in the core downtown neighbourhood was appealing. Dress code could be totally casual, but we saw lots of suits having business lunches. The décor feels sort of like your mom's kitchen, with bright colours and vintage kitchen tables. The kitchen was... more
I have been going to this restaurant for years. In the past year both the food and service has become increasingly poor. The food quality is not as good. Today our breakfast was cold and had overlooked eggs. I think that stems from the poor service, the food runners were late getting it out perhaps. The benny sauce did not... more
Service is hit or miss. Have had great experiences, and other times my table has been completely neglected and made me want to walk out. Best time to go is for brunch, or after their lunch rush. Don't go if you're in a hurry.
The service was so excellent and friendly, my friends and I were very impressed and well taken care of. The food was delicious and we had a good time. I could recommend the entire menu and always ask for the dessert menu, you won't be disappointed
Great food and atmosphere. I missed not getting huevos rancheros because it was the weekend but the pesto eggs benny totally made up for not getting my favorite
The breakfast was just average had better elsewhere. To the people that say it's the best in Edmonton should really get out mogre
A character restaurant that delivers a laid back atmosphere without disappointing in quality food and service. Good food, good beer, good atmosphere, great service, and a great experience all around.
Food was decent, had the cornmeal appetizer and fresh Salmon. Cornmeal would of been better if I could of added syrup and the fish was just ok, nothing to write home about. Waitress was friendly, did a good job recommending what to order. We didn't have to wait long for drinks or food which was good. Place was very loud so it was hard to carry on a conversation without having to raise your... more
Expensive and a little out of my Budget but worth a visit once and a while. A good place for special occasions or if there is someone you are trying to impress.
I am beginning to understand that if I order a glass of wine to accompany lunch in Edmonton, eventually, someone will call social services and relieve me of the custody of my children.
Lunch on Friday at the Blue Plate Diner had promise: the diner is funky, in an interesting neighbourhood close to the new Urban Fresh market, the menu is blessedly limited, and the waiter appeared promptly. When...

small servings, french fries on the coolish side, not sufficient value for the price
I love the art for sale on the walls, and the retro decor is fabulous! I love the mismatched dishes and cutlery, it’s so endearing. The Ranch Eggs are the best for brunch!
The ranch eggs are the best! They taste better every time I have them…
The Mac and Cheese is so good here…
Great original dishes. Cool retro/mix-match decor with unique lighting.
Don’t miss the stuffed pepper entree, the carrot cake, sweet potato fries.
Open for breakfast, lunch, & dinner 7 days a week.
Pease send someone to try it out. We're buying!!
Blue Plate Diner offers something for everyone from meat lovers to vegan and vegetarian patrons. Located in downtown’s Warehouse District, this restaurant’s menu represents several countries and their cuisine. Complement your selection with cocktails or beer and enjoy in the warm ambiance of high ceilings, exposed bricks and local art.
This mid-century designed place is quite charming with wooden flooring, brightly painted walls and a brick wall are the winners of Diner's Choice 2012. On a few tables you can find a lamp, and on the walls lovely paintings by local artists. The Blue Plate's menu features steak, chicken, fish and burgers together with veggies. They have a delectable fare to offer vegetarians and... more
Blue Plate Diner is a Casual dining, Comfort Food, and Lunch restaurant where most Menuism users came for fun with friends, paid between $25 and $50, and tipped between 15% to 18%.
Blue Plate offers gourmet comfort food in a hip, funky setting with exposed brick walls and colorful local artwork. What to order? Standout brunch choices include Ranch Eggs (poached eggs, potatoes, beans, cheese and rancho sauce on corn tortillas, topped with guacamole and sour cream), the house blend granola, and maple-glazed grilled cornbread. Later in the day, you'll still face a tough... more
