Nice place. Overpriced food. Very poor service unfortunately. And when my cousin clearly didn't eat her way too spicy salad, they pretended they not only didn't see it but barely listened when we said it. Also, we had to continuously ask for water or even the dessert menu.
AND they made mistakes on our bill, adding things we never got. Bad.
Too bad, great location and nice ambiance.

Upscale Bistro Disappoints

We had heard that Bistro On The Avenue had been recently revitalized food and service wise, so when we received a promotional offer we decided to see for ourselves.

New life in a neighbourhood favourite

Having eaten at Bistro about a dozen times over the years (for quick lunches, family dinners, friends in from out of town on limited time etc.) I have always found the Bistro a bit unexciting in the past, but today really changed my mind. OK meal

I really wanted to like this small restaurant, ambiance was nice - reminded me a bit L'Express. However comparison stopped there. Everything was average - food, service. Nothing bad, but nothing good either. OK meal, not more then that. Will we come back? Probably not. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Montreal.

Once again, very pleased

I don't know what this place has become but my review will apply to what it once was.

When the Bistro first opened, they had some of the best food, drinks and ambience in Montreal. From their Goat Cheese Filo to their Chicken baguette served with this marmalade chili dressing to their perfectly cooked Steak/frites - it was one of my favorite restaurants in the city.

We ordered a NY steak and an omelette. The steak was too well done, and as tasteless as the omelette. Very weak food and not worth the price. Good music and good ambiance, so it may be good for drinks.

Impressed

We returned to this restaurant this past October and had a wonderful meal. Not only was the food excellent,but the service was impeccable. We shall return again the next time we are in Montreal !

great service from all staff

I joined a friend for lunch today and we had the Monday special -green salad (very fresh) with stringed vegetables, follower by steak and fries which both were prepared to our satisfaction. The fries were to die for. A nice bottle of red wine brought it all together.

What a Gem. Great 25th Anniversary special

I went to Bistro with two of my friends named Theodore and Eric. I had Steak and frites. It was absolutely delicious. Eric had calamari, pasta and onion soup. He really enjoyed it and finished with a home made cake. Theo had salmon with veg and rice. The blackened salmon "was absolutely delicious" said Theo who is a fish lover.... plus

Excellent Upscale Pub Food

Absolutely love this place. Great service and food and everything. We always enjoy our meal here and have a great night. Always a safe bet.

Came here on a Thursday night for dinner with wifey for a special occasion. It was really surprisingly excellent. It's basically an upscale pub. Very understated, and, honestly, the best and friendliest service I have ever had in Montreal. Though it comes with a price, but I think it caters to the local crowd who all seem to be regulars and love it.

Went there for brunch with friends and liked it very much. A tad on the expensive side but a good choice.

One of our favorite neighbourhood bistros. We have been coming here for over a decade. As a matter of fact we came for dinner the night we decided to get married and wrote the guest list on one of their napkins. Service and atmosphere are friendly. Prices are high but the food is good.

I agree with the uneven quality-both with food and management. I wouldn't spend my money here again.

Very uneven quality depending on which chef and which maitre d' are there. It can vary from very good to downright disastrous. I cannot afford such surprises.
