We were so happy to get this recommendation. It is not a scene for tourists and was worth the beautiful 25 minute walk out of the old city (you could take a cab if you wish). Food was fantastic and sit at the bar so you can watch them cook the meals directly in front of you! Staff was great... plus
I can't account for prior reviews that criticized the service for English customers.
We were received graciously and provided with a full explanation of the chalkboard menu written in French.. We were provided with tastes of the glasses of wine we ordered. I had venison; my wife had halibut....both were very good. We shared an very good desert .

The food is good, the menu is fresh daily and the kitchen is always welling to adapt their plates to your desire (if you see a side each dish you like on an other plate, they're happy to add some to your order). The service is hit or miss, we've been a few times, sometimes the service is outstanding, other... plus
Pros - Wonderful space and well prepared food. Cons - The small menu is in French. Unlike other restaurants in Quebec where the staff was more than happy to translate the menu for us, the waiter was rude and condescending when we asked him to translate the menu for us. He rushed through the menu and was clearly irritated with... plus
We had excellent food but the staff could have been friendlier because they almost embarressed us with some anwers and advice... Too bad for the very nice looking place and the delicious food
My husband and I left the kids at the Chateau and headed to Bistro B for a date night. Located not too far outside the walls on Cartier (populated by hip locals) it was only a short cab ride from the hotel. And it was fabulous. The chef only prepares a handful - perhaps 6 or 7 - apps and... plus
This place was recommended to us by a local. At our arrival I was amazed to see the best bistro setting ever. Open kitchen, huge wine list, cocktail bar and a small menu of the day chalked on a black board. Thankfully the waiter explained everything in English unlike other places in Quebec and didn't ask for more tips in... plus
Well situated on popular shopping street Avenue Cartier, this is a very nice, airy bistro with an open kitchen and good service.
The food is fresh and well prepared -- I had poached lobster in excellent lemongrass broth with various plump mushrooms, tender with slightly crisped top skate wing with vegetables and a good dark chocolate dessert. Nice inexpensive Spanish...

Great atmosphere...amazing food! My Husband and I were in Quebec for Business. Bistro B was highly recommended to us to have dinner. Excellent Food and atmosphere. Our French is not good, only what we learned in High School. Sad to say we had no help with the menu so we could only figure out half of the Entree's. We travel... plus
Over a nine day walking holiday in Old Quebec, we had dinner at the Bistro B four times. Our A++ favorite. The creative founding chef came from the notable Panache. Every day a different menu with six appetizers and six entres on their blackboards (which you can see on Facebook). Not a pretentious bit to be found, just over-the-top staff... plus
We went as a group of 10, and the service was extremely good.
The food was quite tasty. The lobster bisque received rave reviews. The risotto was authentic extremely well prepared, in the creamy Venice style. The wine and spirit selection is sufficiently generous to meet most tastes.
It is a trendy bistro, with personality. A good time was had...

Great little grub joint just outside Old Quebec that we picked for lunch. Open style kitchen is interesting to watch. They prepare a very short menu 4-5 apps; 4-5 mains, but they are prepared well. Funky themed decor that is targetted torward a younger crowd. Nice place, we will return.
You want great food...you found it. Get out of the old quarter and walk to this restuarant. Insanely good food. I have never had duck prepared in Europe or here was well as this restuarant. Sit at the counter to watch the chefs.then you will have an idea of how well this restaurant prepares and serves your food. Great variety... plus
We had a table next to the kitchen. It's always fun to watch the kitchen prepare the meals as you wait. The food is very good and prepared to perfection. I had the fish of the day that was melt in your mouth good.
2.5 stars ... good modern bistro styled tasty foods, but the price is on the higher end. the restaurant is located on a busy street full of other dining choices. the main reason for low rating is the hygiene issues: plenty of FLIES hovering/resting by the walls & windows...really shocking that the restaurant did not try to address this problem... plus
This is a neighborhood place with a growing reputation. The menu changing daily and everything is fresh and mostly locally sourced. The menu is on a chalkboard and limited, so perhaps some nights there might be some duds.
I started with beef carpaccio that was special. Very tasty and a good sized portion. For my main dish I had seafood...

This restaurant was the worst restaurant experience in my life.
First of all the servant was very impolite and mean.
The food wasn`t even close to what it is worth.
Not a big choice in the menu.

We had experienced the Bistro B before and each time, we were really annoyed by the time it took to dine and the average taste of each course. This time, it was just perfect. Food excellent, staff efficient, bill as expected in this restaurant 's category. We were 5, each had appetizer and main course,( from the most expensives items... plus
The restaurant was my recommended by a friend. Really good food, simply prepared. Great tuna tartare a delicious lobster bisque. Waitress extremely pleasant and friendly.
Completely enjoyable from start to finish. It is a must visit with locally sourced ingredients, excellent service, fun atmosphere and excellent service. Emily was wonderful and helpful with translating the rotating daily menu! It was outside the old city and in a great neighborhood for walking and after dinner drinks!
Freakin amazing food! Best find in Quebec City! Our server was very nice, explained the french chalkboard menu in detail. Very casual comfortable room with plenty of a/c. Nice large bar area.
Very charming neighborhood, outdoor seating.
Bistro B is a great find in Quebec. It is a short cab ride outside of the main area of the city but well worth the 5min trip. The staff could not have been friendlier. Our French is not great and the waiter took the time to go through the menu and explain every item. The atmosphere is casual and... plus
We were 10 poeple in our group. We all like our dinner. The service was great, the food was soooo good. I had the fish, some had the rabbit, the rizotto, the horse steak, everybody had good comments about their meal.
Bistro B is one of those great finds that can make a vacation just that much better. The menu changes frequently and is posted on the chalk board above the clean open kitchen. If your French is rusty, the wait staff are more than happy to translate. The night we were there five starter and five mains were offered. Mains... plus
This restaurant deserves to be in the top15 or top10 in Québec city.
I enjoy going there for lunch or brunch when I am in town. The menu of the day ( around 20$) always include a dish of fish, meat and vegetarian choice with and a couple of choice of appetizers.
Get a seat facing the kitchen to watch...

We were there for lunch and really enjoyed the food, classics (Hot chicken sandwich) revisited. Others had fish and meat and were very satisfied as well. The server was lovely and she took time to ask about us and wish us a nice visit. Overall experience: would recommend and go back myself.
Bistro B came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. Hands down, one of the best gastropubs we’ve visited. The menu is limited, but this wasn’t a problem as everything we ordered was perfect. The sweetbreads were fantastic, the duck was cooked perfectly and drinks were perfectly balanced.
Dinner at 7.30 pm with two friends and the restaurant is full and very noisy. My deception lies with the food, which is a big problem if you feel like eating well. I order the soup of the day which goes for 9$ and it is not exceptional in any way. I then select the risotto for 22$. It comes... plus
Bistro B is by far one of my favorite restaurant in Quebec City. The menu changes according to the fresh season arrivals. The atmosphere is great, you have to eat at the counter and watch the different cooks preparing your meal. They will always be happy to chat with you and let you taste some of their stuff.

I was in Quebec City for just a day and had a decent amount of time for lunch before having to head off to a meeting. I was most fortunate in that my meeting was just around the corner from Cartier Avenue - home to many restaurants and bars. I had no idea where to go and chose Bistro B... plus
If you want a great dining experience,Bistro B is a great option. We sat at the counter watching the food being prepared in front of us in the centre of the restaurant. This place has the best food in the city. My wife and I ate here twice on our recent trip; once for dinner, and the next day for lunch.
We had a veloute of butternut squash that was out of this world, followed up by a duck breast that matched anything I've eaten in Paris. The wine list is good,...

A rather modern bistro on Rue Cartier. The menu changes daily and is written on blackboards above the bar. Everything is very fresh and skillfully prepared. The parsnip soup with chevre and pistachios was excellent, as was the risotto. The desserts -- out of this world! The wine list is on an iPad; that was a first for me but... plus
Bistro B was something we stumbled upon. We did not plan a trip here. We were actually on our way to another place. The B is a bit loud and young but they are also very good at what they do The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is truly upbeat.
We had been site seeing Quebec City all day. We were tired and hungry. We came across Bistro B without a reservation. We were treated like royalty. The ambiance was perfect. We sat at the bar so that we could watch the 3 chefs as they prepared the food - very impressive. Our waiter was great, he should get a... plus
Great locale on Rue Cartier where the locals go, not the tourists. Excellent menu created daily by chef, friendly service, awesome brunch. First class all the way except the price which was very reasonable.
Would have given it a 5 except that it was a bit too expensive. We had the brunch and it was supposedly on special, but it still cost over 50$ for 2 persons.
Well, the first experience 2 months ago was absolutely incomparable... Amazing food but the service was out of this world! We were seated at the counter and the chef kept talking to us providing explanations on the menu and also clues on great recipes.
The second experience...well also seated at the counter... But this time the person the other side...

I chanced upon this excellent bistro - it was late on a Tuesday night (9.30pm) and many other places were shut, or were finishing up, but people in the other establishments directed me to this place. We had areservation for four people on a friday evening.
There was a snowstorm on that evening.
We arrived ten (yes, ten) minutes late and they had given our table to others.
No one even bothered to give any apologies.
Totally unacceptable given the selection of fine restaurants in Quebec City.
We enjoyrd a lovely dinner. Between us, we had sweetbreads in corn meal crust and a delicious cream sauce, Lamb loin with winter vegetables, and cornish game hen vacuum cooked with butter and herbs. The entire experience was excellent. Wait staff was perfectly bilingual and attentive, The food was fresh and well-prepared-what one would expect in a conscientious bistro. It... plus

I went to Bistro B on the recommendation of a NY Times article this past November, and it did not steer me wrong!
