If you've got the cash, this is the place to go for awesome steak and NW beef. Service, ambience and food is exemplary. BUt be forewarned, you'll pay a pretty penny for this great time.
Technically this is in Bear's Paw, just West of Calgary, but it is one of the best restaurants in the city and I'm sure John Gilchrist would agree, I've seen him here! Food, service, drinks, atmosphere and experience are all absolutely amazing!
come here for a fancy celebration for something special. it will be kind of expensive, but it's very nice and you can enjoy your meal for hours in good company.
I have been here twice and both times have been an absolutely wonderful experience. One of those perfect nights out that you dream of. You won't find a better steak anywhere, and their drink menu is astonishing. The cocktails that they have crafted are so creative, the wine list extensive and the international beers are many. The beef is unspeakably good here, and steaks are always done perfect to order. Non-steak dishes are incredible too, for those who aren't steak people. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant. Dress up, bring you favourite people (great for dates, families or close groups), and prepare for an exquisite night out.
Had a great meal here with friends. The exterior does not do the interior justice as it is cosy, whether you are in the lounge or dining room. Our server was very knowledgeable and patient as she explained the menu and food/drink pairings. Overall a little pricier but definitely worth it for the flavour.
This is a beautiful restaurant with a fantastic romantic atmosphere and I want to love it, but its getting harder to return due to mediocre wait service. With this price point I shouldn't have to wait for drinks and get food orders mixed up.
I am always underwhelmed by the wait staff at Bears' Den and I bristle at the...

Excellent restaurant with all the amenities expected of a high class restaurant, but with a humble engaging staff that are eager to please and ensure your night is memorable.
As it has been since it beginings this place has always set the standard for first class food, sevice and experience,
Well done Bears Den staff.
Food was okay - quite overpriced for what you get. Service was terrible. Party of twelve on a Thursday. Not busy in the restaurant but still service was lacking. We returned a couple of drinks as they were not good at all, turns out we were charged for them anyway. Servers were defensive when asked on the status of items... more
The food was not bad, but not as great as it used to be, and not worth the price charged. The prime rib was cooked well, but the au jus was non existent, the seasoning was bland, and the yorkshire pudding was cold and stale. The fish was good and the appetizers were good but for the price the portions... more
The B Side is the lounge area of the Bears Den, offering the full menu selection available on the restaurant side in a casual, less formal, relaxed atmosphere. There is no shortage of dark wood, with lofty ceilings and soft lighting, including real candles on the tables....a nice touch in a lounge. The wine list is extremely extensive, but we... more
This is an impressive high end venue and aside from that there isn't anything good to say. The variety of food was very sparse and the quality not good. Six of the more pricey items, e.g. shrimp, "steak bites" were to be served at the table. The shrimp serving consisted of one shrimp per person with a very unspecial spice... more
My husband & I were planning on Fathers Day Brunch only to discover sold out. We had a gift Certificate so went night prior for dinner. Beautiful evening, dinner was to die for. Look forward to returning as one of the best meals we have encountered in awhile.
Excellent service, very knowledgeable staff. Menu selections kept to a few I think so that they can focus on perfecting each one, and they do. I had the 'garden selection' and what was expected to be fresh and crisp was while what was expected to be melt in your mouth tender and juicy also achieved that. Very nice!
The quality of the food and service seldom disappoint at this restaurant. We sat on the Bistro side and I was happy to see they have returned to offering their full menu on the Bistro side! We shared the artisan cheese platter and ahi tuna for our starters. The in-house made fig preserve was a very nice addition to the... more
We have come to the B Side Bistro a few times in the past year. Except for on one occasion, the service has been excellent; attentive but not obtrusive. Food is always delicious, although tends to be on the heavy side . One time our server tailored a dish to specific request which was not on the menu. Good wine... more
We have just got back from an amazing Sunday brunch at the restaurant. Including tax, the brunch came to a little over $27 each. I was very happy with the selection of food available and stayed more towards the breakfast items of fresh fruit, yoghurt, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and pancakes. There was omelets, eggs Benedict, roast meats, salads, pastries... more
The Bear's Den has been our favorite restaurant since we discovered it 5 years ago. A place to entertain out of town guests and celebrate special occasions. Since December of 2013 we have noticed a declilne in the food quality and service. Last night was the ultimate disaster. Cold prime rib, tastless steak, overcooked salmon, withered vegetables and substandard service.... more
The ambiance was rustic yet elegant. The staff were top notch and every bit as professional as a 5 star restaurant. The service was impeccable and the food was magnificent. I had the fish, my hubby and our friends had the steak. Everything was great, the salad was fresh and the caesers were made PERFECTLY! I would definitely recommend this... more
I hosted my wife's significant birthday celebration there and I can't say enough good things about the staff, service and food. It was a group of 17 people and it was a perfect evening!! The food on all counts was excellent, fresh, flavourful and fantastic. A great evening.
My first experience at The Bears Den was for a Sunday brunch with friends. Besides the high price, I was not overly impressed at the presentations or choices on offer. I tucked into the leg of lamb and had a pile of salad which was truly delicious!
My hubby and I had a romantic dinner at the fine-dining side of...

The most over-priced Sunday Brunch in Calgary? The omelet station ONLY offers regular omelets, with 5 very basic ingredients; no spinach, nor ham nor any seafood; no egg white option nor simple whole eggs!! My wife could not eggs over easy! How basic is this?

We decided on the Bears Den after the restaurant we picked for our anniversary dinner was closed because they had no power after the floods in June 2013. I guess we went in with lofty expectations since the Bears Den is reputedly, fine dining.
Right off the start things didn't go well. We had to wait for service, had to...

The Bearsden stopped serving the tasty Sunday lunch /brunch they had become well known for last October. This lunch was of high quality featuring small delicious delicacies like tender lamb chops, seafood, steak, all making the rounds, dim sum style for diners to select or wait for the next culinary treat to emerge from the kitchen!

My husband and I had dinner here for our wedding anniversary. The food was amazing but our we felt the service was sub par. We likely won't be back.
We brought in the New Year at the Bear's Den Restaurant and couldn't have been more pleased. We chose the special set menu with wine pairing and it was way over the top in terms of selection, preparation and attention to detail! The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. Furthermore, the price was very reasonable. The restaurant has... more
Hosted a small Xmas dinner party for 12 at the Bears Den. Pre-set menu arranged for evening with assistance from professional staff. Molly, Allan and Nicole made it extra special with prompt and attentive service all night long!! Friends still raving about what a great evening we had, outstanding food and great wine list.
Sunday brunch at the bSide bistro – the lounge of the Bears Den.
To sum up – it went from tasty and unique to a bad motel breakfast buffet.
A few years ago we ventured to the newly renamed bSide bistro for the Sunday brunch.
A wonderful meal – a small buffet and table side tapas.

My first time at the bears den was a wonderful experience. My friend and I got the grand tour of the restaurant, excellent venue for a small wedding reception or office party. I love eating at high end restaurants I'm a strong believer you get what you pay for, and so I did.
Our family enjoyed the new brunch last weekend. It was refreshing, the food was well prepared and great quality. The omelet station works well and understand they may add some beef to the brunch which would compliment the existing food. Kids liked the fresh home made pie with ice cream. Service was good and a great price. We will be... more
We used to make it out to Bears Den on Sundays for probably what used to be the best brunch in Calgary. Been awhile since our last visit and had read that the restaurant had undergone some changes and had new ownership. Even though the website describes the brunch to be the same as it was, it's not even close.... more

tomato/basil and was hot and delightful! Spinach salad very generous
and crispy.

A special occasion. What's nice is you don't have someone sitting in your back pocket, lots of room and privacy around the tables. Outstanding service and you are not rushed. The appetizer was duck and bison sausage, proscuito and a pate served with grain mustard and/or saskatoons, this was fantastic. For dinner, two had duck breast, one a steak, one... more
we'd been to the Den twice before - this time we went with a group of 9 people, booked the private room and were looking forward to an amazing time. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. Lovely food, nice presentation, you will not be disappointed with the food. However, there is NO service. Expect to wait at least 15 - 20 minutes for a drink, your bread, dessert and bill. My husband and I went to have a nice evening out and were very disappointed with the service. Should have been excellent. We ordered prime rib... more
I've been to the Bears Den twice in the past year, and each time my experience has been impressive. Service is spot on, food is terrific, and I love the classic feel of the elegant dining room. Have been to the Bears Den many times for dinner and have never been disappointed . We have always wanted to do the Sunday brunch but usually need reservations made well in advance. Surprise!- menu online is not the menu in restaurant. Same heavy meals in this "Bistro" as in Bearsden. Nothing under 22 bucks for entrees- but you get to watch football on 4 huge tv's. Very confusing.
Either own up and convert the restaurant to all "Bearsden", or figure out what a bistro is and stick to it! Surprises are not...

All evening, we had trouble getting any server's attention. Long waits for everything. I cannot help but wonder if that is due to there being an automatic addition of a hefty tip to tables of 6 or more?
More than that, as we were guests of one person, I later found they did not notice the auto-tip and added one...
