The best Calzona I've had in many years. We had to wait quite a while at lunch today but I think it's because this place is really catching on, he even had to turn people away because he was running out of ingredients. I'm sure in the future that will be straightened out. great service . We will definitely be back. I wish he was open for late night delivery!
We came in on a whim yesterday for lunch and we couldn't be happier. We had the pesto chicken and it was to die for. Tasty fillings in a fresh, crisp shell. One was perfect for my husband and half was great for me (and the second half tasted great for lunch today). Battista's has a welcoming casual atmosphere where you get to see your calzone being made fresh! We got to try the strawberry and... more
Great food, friendly environment. Batista makes delicious calzones. My favourite is a wiseguy with peppers added.
The Nutella desert calzone is amazing, strawberries and Nutella.
Love putting the spicy oil on my calzone for an extra zing.
They really know how to treat customers like family and everything is made fresh for your order. Great for takeout or even try their take home options.
Good price, good taste very kind people. I definitely will be back there. I tried the Classic, the spicy option and the Nutella with strawberry option. Everything was super!
The filling is more than adequate and the dough is great. Not over cooked and very flavorful. The owners make you feel like valued customers.
If you want calzones, this is the place to go!
It doesn't get much better than this! Friendly, local and absolutely delicious. The couple who own/run the establishment are incredible and welcomed my daughter and I in despite the fact that they were closed. We chatted about supporting local businesses and the 'weather' To top the meeting off, they sent us out with thwor own made Calzones. We were delighted. Taste was incredible. We will be... more
I love Calzones, man, they know how to make calzones. I have never had one that good before. Homemade dough, fresh ingredients, friendly atmosphere! Great price for the food. Pair it with an authentic Italian soda and you're set! Takes about 15 minutes to cook once ordered.
Battista's Calzone is a place I try to take all of my friends for a quick bite when I happen to be in the area. I love places that only do one thing, and do it right. The owner is always here and always smiling when he greets you. He's often trying out new recipes and is happy to share samples with his customers.
There are only a few different calzone choices on the menu here and they are all...

I have been eating, no...Devouring Battista's calzones for a few years now. Their location is fresh and clean. The open kitchen concept is great. Who doesn't like watching their calzone handcrafted from scratch. The service is second to none. Owner operated, you are always in good hands. They also have a frozen section so you can stock your freezer at home, which I do. Do not forget to try the... more
Found this place on yelp. Food was great and the person working there (owner?) was nice and kind. She gave us complementary Nutella Strawberry, because it was our first time!
A comment to the owners: you should move (or start a branch) downtown or somewhere like hub-mall at the UofA.
I had heard from a couple people about this place and how I should try it out. I have to say I have had better. I was really disappointed and we had two different calzone to ensure we got to sample a couple styles.
Wasn't impressed and no desire to go back.
Best calzones period.
Dont know another place that beats it. I enjoy the chicken pesto but its always sold out. So buying them frozen makes for a quick lunch option.
Come early for best selection.
This place is absolutely amazing, truly a hidden gem. The winter special "The Amore" is delicious, and nowhere in the city will you find a friendlier establishment. It you are craving Italian and don't want to spend a ton of money but get the beat deal, stop by, you won't be disappointed :)
For under 10 bucks, you can get a phenomenal calzone and a drink. If you're lucky they will have meatballs for a Mama Mia. There's a vegetarian option, chicken pesto, spicy Italian, and Classico. They are all great. No gluten free options, sorry. It's a great environment, too. Always a good time. Ask for some Peperoncini hot oil to add to your dipping sauce. Enjoy.
My dad and I came in on a not-so-busy afternoon and were immediately greeted warmly by the two staff members. I ordered the Spicy Italian calzone, which was delicious -- freshly made, steaming hot, and the dough was fantastic. Just a little crispy on the outside, pillowy soft on the inside. Plus, before we were finished our meal, we were given a HUGE plateful of the Nutella Strawberry calzone... more
Every ingredient of these calzones is fresh, dough is personally prepared by the owner, a nice italian guy, as long as tomato sauce, the sausage-peppers mix, and meatballs. These last are prepared following a special recipe, using freh meat and cheese and they really taste like my mother's ones. They provide many kinds of calzone, and they all are tasty... more
Stopped by for lunch on Friday September 5 and got a deliciously amazing calzone that hit the spot. The part that made my mind up that this place is the "bomb"is that there debit machine was not working but they fed us any way with a promise to return. Who else in edmonton does that, common and especially on 118 ave!
Great calzone made while you wait in a nice comfortable atmosphere. Battista and Stephanie were welcoming and friendly. The sausage and pepper was excellent with the perfect blend of ingredients in a pocket with just the right amount of crunch and chew. I took home a frozen chicken calzone and heated in my oven the next day was almost as good as straight out of Battista's This was my first... more
Despite living about five minutes away by bicycle, I went to Battista's for the first time (outside of a Yelp event about a year ago). I work on the other side of town and I'm usually very busy on Saturday mornings and afternoons. But as my office is closed for renovations and I'm working from home, I decided to give it a try for lunch. Battista's is only open from 11-3 from Tuesday to Saturday... more
What a great little shop for a great meal! Just stopped in here the ither day with a co-worker and was very impressed. The guy working there made sure you felt welcomed right as you walked through the door. It is nice to see great customer service. I had a hawaiian calzone and it was like a tropical vacation in my mouth. Plus we got to try the nutella and strawberries which was amazing. I want... more
Yes. So many ways yes. We made a point of going out here the other day because it just hadn't been lining up, and it was so worth it. Hot, fresh, delicious food with a side of the best customer service I've had the pleasure of experiencing in a while. It's not hard to see why people love it here. I had the Pesto Presto and my fiance had the Mama Mia, and both were great. I'm always a little... more
ive went to this place twice before and the owner remembered my name.
the calzones here were very good,
in the summer time you can eat outside and watch the traffic go buy
the price is alittle hight but it is totally worth it for the quality and size.
I've tried Battista's Calzones a second time and while it remains good, it's overpriced for what you get. It's alright all in all.
I was at Battista's for a Yelp Elite event ages ago. I starting writing a review at the time but forgot to hit publish!
I got to sample just about every flavour on the menu and I've got to say that these are some amazing calzones! I have had calzones at a few other places, but none have been as good as those at Battista's.
I just wish they had longer hours. I'm not in the area for lunch, but...

What can I say about this incredible place that hasn't already been repeated countless times. I discovered Battista's Calzones about a year ago and was hoping to keep it my little secret for many years to come. Sadly, with all hidden gems, eventually word gets out and the masses arrive. However, despite the fact that BCs is rammed every day for lunch, the one thing that never changes is the... more
Battista's does a couple things really well. Crust. Ambiance. Service. But to me, the food has to shine for a fantastic and memorable review. Is it too much to ask for some depth of flavour in the sauce. Garlic, basil, ANYthing. With a crust that delicious, it's a shame that the filling was so bland. We tried the Classico - its filling lacked in quantity but likely would have been enough if... more
After hearing so much about Battista's I decided to try it one afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. I got there at 3:30 but they were still open even though their hours said they close at 3pm. I ordered the Spicy Italian and an imported pop and my total came to around $11. The calzone itself was quite flavorful and gooey with cheese but it definitely was not spicy at all. I would like to try... more
Sorry. Just don't understand why people on Yelp like this place so much. The crust is fine but the fillings aren't unique. At $10/calzone, it's also over priced for flour water, packaged deli meats, and tomato sauce.
Checked it out with my girlfriend a couple of days ago; she lives in Highlands so it was an easy trek down 118 to this little joint that I've been meaning to check-out for quite some time now.
We arrived just before closing at about 2:30 pm on a weekday. As mentioned by many, the staff are incredibly friendly and greet you immediately with a smile and welcome. As a vegetarian, I knew what I'd...

A gem on 118 Ave. I am so glad that Battista's was mentioned in a Yelp newsletter, because I definitely wouldn't have happened upon it otherwise. I was a little worried we would be disappointed - I've gone in expecting a lot out of other restaurants with really high ratings on and come out a... more
The reason I went to Battista's was because of all of the fantastic reviews I read about the place. I wasn't sure if the reviews would really live up to all the hype...but I was pleasantly surprised!

Upon arriving, we were pleasantly surprised to find such a welcome and open atmosphere! The shop was converted from a garage and has...

Awesome Calzones! Very friendly chef and crew. Will definitely go there again.
Simple and Delicious menu, The secret is the fantastic pizza dough , Highly recommended, the only drawback is the location , I wish they move somewhere on whyte ave or close to campus :D .
The owners are very nice. It was our first time there and he treated us with free desert. I will defiantly go back.
I have had the pleasure of sampling a few calzones in my life but none as good as the ones I've had from Battistas. Their dough is light, airy and delicious and each filling is full of complementary flavours. Zesty pesto, delicious cheeses and amazing veggies and meats, you couldn't ask for anything more. Or could you?! Topping off the most amazing meals is the nutella calzone, marrying two of... more
I had never tried a calzone until Battistas. Even my pizza deploring humans were impressed! Although they have a small menu with only a few varieties, they do a great job of each flavor. Mama Mia is filled with plump, large meatballs, with melty, gooey mozzarella. The spicy Italian filled with Italian sausage and peppers has a nice little kick to it.
The nutella calzone doesn't get any better!...

Great suprise! Bright, friendly atmosphere, very fast preparation.
We shared the Pesto Chicken, Meatball and Classico with a Nutella and Strawberry for dessert.

So i saw this place on top of the yelp list, and i love Italian food, so i had to try this place out. The location of this place is fairly far from my house, but the building is very unique. There is not much parking to be found at this restaurant, maybe like 4 cars can fit in their little driveway, otherwise you would have to park in the streets behind it and walk. The inside of the restaurant... more
I'm a picky bugger when it comes to what's going into mah' bellay'. I want it always to be good, always fresh. This place does both! Cost reasonable; mom and pop operation. To that effect I would have given 5 stars if the staff had a better attitude. Side note, wish they did dinner; I will definitely return for lunch! :)
Stopped bye for our first calzones of the year and found the pesto chicken has been improved by the addition of roasted chicken. It was very good before, and now it is great.
It now competes with the Mama Mia for my favourite.
Hard to beat the welcoming aroma of fresh baking calzones on a winter day.
So happy to hear the food truck preparations are on track for launch this spring.
They specialize in one thing, calzones, because focusing on one thing allows them to excel at that one thing. And excel they do. The calzones are fabulous. Our delightful server, when learning we were vegetarian, suggested we get the Vegetariano calzone with pesto, just a little extra something to give it that special zip. And it was superb, that will be my order every time I return. The... more
Calzones!
I finally tried this place for lunch last week. It is quite a drive from where I work; the calzone was $8.50 and the gasoline to drive there was probably $8.50. But it was worth it to have that sweet taste of cheese and tomato sauce.
I ordered the spicy italian calzone. Battista personally brought me over a bottle of spicy chili flavoured olive oil to use as dipping sauce. Delish.

Let's just start with: I hate tomato sauce, and yet while I'm here, I eat the extra that comes as a dipper for the calzone.

Simple, but very high quality! It was so good that I had to buy a second one for lunch the next day.
The crust is light and fluffy while the meatballs were juicy, full of flavour, but not greasy in any way.
The service was so polite and friendly, Battista was truly in engaged in chatting with his clientele.
Wow. And I mean, wow. Believe the hype - calzones at Battista's are awesome. I've had calzones before, but not as filled and overflowing as the one I had here. It was a veggie calzone, and the entire garden showed up. Liv and Battista are super friendly. I felt very welcome and have got to come back soon to try the Mama Mia.
Bada Boom Bada Bing!!!!! Try these Italian Calzones, they are fantastic. It takes a bit of time to prepare but definitely worth the wait. The flavors melt in your mouth from these speciality sandwiches or partial pizza if you may. Almost like having a gourmet pizza pocket with various ingredients.

Battista's Calzones does just that calzones. It's what they specialize in. Don't come to Battista's if you want pasta, or chicken fingers or donairs or anything aside from a calzone.
