Great spot for apps and drinks....... but main dishes need upgraging.
It's summer time , the halibut should have grill marks not dried out in a pan, and the risotto way too heavy! If it's fresh then it should be seasonal.....where was the mango, cilanto, pineapple, heirloom tomatoes, fresh veg relishes, fresh pasta ect.....
Not a massive discrepancy, but the menu...

We went a few weeks ago and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The service was really good as well. We had the salmon and our friends had the beef. We all enjoyed the dinner.
We are two couples that regularly see Saturday matinee theatre in the city and return back to the Aurora/Newmarket area for dinner to give the local restaurants some patronage.
We had never been here before and thought we should give it a try.
We are not oyster fans but are big on seafood.
3 of us had the seafood pasta...

If you enjoy oysters and live in the area, this is the place for you. Oysters were fresh and tasty. They offered oysters from differents areas and I really appreciated that most were canadian. I had the sea bass main dish and it was great. Our server Blair, was attentive, fun and knowledgeable. Was there on a Saturday night and... more
A bit underwhelmed by this place - ordered the pickerel and at first glance the plate was not appetizing looking AT ALL. The fish actually did taste good, the little fingerling potatoes were good, but they were covered with very mushy onions and oddly served with some terrible baked beans. The salad I had was also mediocre - expected more... more
If you love oysters and live north of Toronto this place is great! Always a large selection of oyster options, fresh and delicious. They are presented quickly and with lots of fresh grated horseradish along with all the condiments! Thursday is Martini night and they go great with the oysters. I am not as keen on the rest of the... more
Popped in for a quick bite at the bar and service and food was outstanding! Previous experiences here had not worked out as well but perhaps it was a good night or they've settled into their new digs, which as you know are quite impressive! It was a Wed night and wasn't looking for anything other than a good quick... more
As a former patron of the previous location, I was excited at the move thinking it would result in a better layout of the lounge area. At first glance the décor is beautiful, so kudos there. But what were you thinking when you place the bar along the back wall and postage stamp area for dancing? Long wait for a... more
Had family dinner they were full but did offer us table in bar. Great food and service and will return.
Excellent food, fast and friendly service, would definitely recommend this place!!!
Fried oysters and grilled calamari are 2 of my faves, a must try!!
Brand new place but still the old faces are there and the service is great . Great for lunch , dinner or just drinks.
I had such high hopes for the new location. Thought they would have solved the cramped bar and lousy service situation but the new location is actually worse than the original. Had to wait way too long for a drink and the snarly brunette bartender seemed to be a force to be reckoned with - surly, rude, arrogant and does... more
We have been going to Shucks for many years and while I don't know the owner personally have always received very good service. The new location is really well done...can't wait to enjoy the patios next spring/summer. The food I ordered was good steak & salad. Jessica was our server and while we had a few challenges during the meal... more
I have never written a review before but I feel the need to pass along how underwhelming our dinner at Aw Shucks was. The shrimp cocktail was nothing special, the french onion soup was tasteless and most upsetting was the grilled calamari that was drenched in olive oil and had no seasoning - it literally tasted like I was drinking... more
I went to aw shucks on a Friday night and Cassandra was my waitress. The server was fast and friendly. I would recommend this place highly. The field greens salad and crab cake were delicious and fresh. The beer and broccoli soup was absolutely fantastic
I have been to Aw Shucks a number of times and also consider myself a regular. I was very excited to experience the new Aw Shucks. I have been there a couple of times now and want so desperately for it to be a good experience....but sorely it is not! Long line ups for drinks at the bar and snarly... more
Waiting 45 minutes to get a drink at the bar is insane. Finally waiving down a bartender only to be ignored or told they are busy and to wait is unacceptable. The bartenders obviously don't like their jobs at Aw Shucks and they make that fact well known. We tried to reserve a table in the lounge 2 weeks in... more
Oct 18th, Friday night, we had 8:30pm reservations, after that all the tables were pretty full and they had to turn away guests. Reservations recommended.
I didn't find the service to be slow at all. We ordered some extra oysters and the server told us it might take a little longer due to volume but we didn't find it too...

We read all the negative reviews about the restaurant so we decided to have lunch there to see how bad it really was. We were pleasantly surprised at the pleasant experience we had. We were greeted by a young pleasant lady that seated us on the upstairs patio. We received our drinks quickly and she took our order right away.... more
If you want to experience a service nightmare then you should definitely visit! Close to impossible to get a waiter/waitress for even water. If you would like to wait over 2 hours to get a meal, again a must visit.
This was the second time we ate here and we were met with the same ignorance of the menu as we were the first time. Our wait staff did not know where the oysters were from nor was unable to describe what one of the entrées consisted of when asked. When the entrées were brought and we started eating both... more
I came here Friday with friends. Waited 45 minutes for a drink. Then the second time we ordered, we never saw a drink. There were two girls running around serving. Definately understaffed. The place was packed. Not very friendly either. They just ignore you as you say "excuse me?" when they walk by.
Visited on a Friday night and had the worst experience of my life. What a disaster! The bar is sorely understaffed and the staff that DO work there, are rude! RUDE! I tried to order a shot for a bride-to-be that was also there, and was ridiculed for my selection! I truly think he was so disgusted with my first... more
Visited the new location early Thursday evening . The staff were trying to please and service was a little slow . My wife started with the oysters . They were east coast not the largest ,
but she said fresh and tasted great . Halibut and Pickerel for the mains , both were cooked good but I think they are...

Like all the other reviews this place is a dining and perhaps a drinking disaster! Not a lot of point repeating what the others experienced but clearly this is a cougar bar and meat market with the facade or hope of fine dining. The waiter couldn't order a beer and deliver it in less than 45 min. We went on... more
I was excited about going to their new location - however it was seriously one of my worst dining experiences ever! Knowing that it was recently opened, I was not expecting all the 'kinks' to be solved yet, however the staff were rude and/or inexperienced. We waiting a long time for service, and once the food did come we had... more
I would like everyone to know that I would never eat there again! there food was bland had no flavor over cooked pasta, and way way over priced for what you get, We asked for some bread and butter till our meals would arrive, because we were drinking after the first round of bread which had four little slices in... more
A group of 14 family and friends decided to try this restaurant for one of our birthdays after hearing that it's previous location was very good. The only way to properly outline all of the horrible experiences I will have to list them in point form.
1. When we were first seated the waitress asked us for drinks but at...

Aw Shucks has moved recently so my wife and I thought we would try the restaurant out for our anniversary. The service was very poor and the waiter we had was extremely rude as well. Getting a drink took a good twenty minutes and the wait between courses was a good twenty minutes as well. I wish I could say... more
Aw Shucks, long considered by some to be the best "spot" in Aurora, has recently moved to a new location right at Yonge and Wellington. I was really excited about this, hoping it would have a positive effect on the rest of that area, as restaurants there tend to struggle.
We went on Sunday night of the long weekend, around...

Really good food fair to + prices but the food is quality for your spend so it's justified. Stuffed Chicken of all things is a fav!
Its tough to find an oyster bar with the variet of oysters available at Aw Shucks. A casual atmosphere and always a great selection of succulent oysters from some of the best habitats known in the sea.
you know that this is THE place to go... really not like any other place know or have ever been to. it bills itself as an oyster place, but the crabs are what really get you... more
Very rowdy, irresponsible crowd, allowed drunks to be obnoxious.
Oyster size was exaggerated.
Very disappointed.
The lounge/bar area was dark and cold and had crumbs on all the booths and tables. The table we sat at had a cigarette lodged in between the seats. We ordered the fish and chips and crab cakes to start. We waited 20 minutes for the app to arrive and when it did, it was soggy, smelt fishy, and had... more
My wife and I went there after a christmas party in December, on a saturday night. We of course ordered wine and oysters. When we ordered the second round of oysters we were infomed they had run out... It's an oyster bar?
We don't eat out much but when we do we come often to Aw Shucks - about twice a year -simply because of the great food. We usually come early in the week when the place is not so busy and feature oysters are half priced. Besides the gourmet dishes, we also adore the bread, which (we are told) comes... more
If you are looking for just the right place for a special occasion meal -- this is it. This is a consistently friendly place with consistently amazing food. Good attention is given to all the details. My favorite things are the oysters and the tapas menu.
I have been going to Aw Shucks for years. It's true, it has quite a bar scene on the weekends, but underneath all of that is the best food in Aurora, hands down. The chef is known for creating delicious, perfectly cooked dishes using fresh local ingredients. Despite what others say, this restaurant IS NOT expensive. Most of us work... more
