excellent and the building is beautiful.
The hosts were very accommodating to our food allergies, the location was ideal to easily access downtown while still being away from the hustle and bustle, and the ambience made for a wonderful getaway..will definitely stay here again!
Easy 2 mile walk to restaurants, shops and harbor. Breakfast was tasty but a bit slow in coming. Quiet and comfortable room. Would have been cozy to have the in-room fireplace working, but no. It's a true Victorian.
Unfortunately, there appears to be some management issues (owner is gone? the staff were very run down and overworked) but outside of that we had a very pleasant stay.
Quaint charm. Slow but excellent breakfast. Stayed here with a child felt like a royal experience.
While the B&B overall had the vintage charm of a typical Victoria B&B with a beautiful common room and classic wooden staircase, our room was somewhat drab (damaged blinds) and devoid of unique details that make B&B experiences unique. This might have been because we had booked a lower budget room. We had requested a different room (terrace room) during booking than what we got (garden room).... more
The house was built in 1885 and the decor is consistent with that time period. We stayed in the Ducchess Room, touted as one of the larger stately rooms (Tip: call ahead to discuss your room). They had free wifi, DVD player and flat screen TV with two comfy sitting chairs in our room. Also our room had a fireplace that we didn't get to use because we there during summer. Our king mattress was... more
This is not a terrible b&b, but it's not a great one either. The house is very old and is filled with very old knick-knacks. The carpeting in the rooms is old. Everything is old. Old houses can be restored and look and feel great; in the case of the Amethyst Inn, it looks and feels tacky. Lots of stairs: if you're concerned about accessibility, this one is definitely not for you. Also, there... more
My dream house, my dream room, I want to live there. Everything was up to expectations and just like out of a fairytale. Breakfast was very good and more than enough to eat, very friendly service.
The exterior architecture of the house was interesting and the
breakfasts were good.

The room was musty smelling and the bathroom was barely furnished and
lacked a shower. It was also located on the third floor which wasn't
advertised and could have been a problem for someone with limited
mobility. The staff was over worked, uninformed and essentially non-
existent during our stay. The...

We had a wonderful time. Management has thought of everything in order to ensure that guests are comfortable and have everything they need. The property is gorgeous and feels like you are stepping back in time (with the benefit of modern conveniences). The staff is friendly, accommodating and very helpful. We would definitely stay here again, and recommend it to anyone. The bed in the... more
Staff are number one at this B & B. They are very helpful and go above and beyond what one would normally expect of a B & B. The property is charming and very well kept. Breakfast was very fresh and more than ample. I would stay at the Amethyst Inn again - 5 days was not long enough.
This place is absolutely charming! I love the classic Victorian design, furniture, details etc. It is truly elegant. Our suite was very clean and comfortable. It had all the necessary amenities. Bed was comfortable, so we had a good sleep. A bonus was that we had a shower in addition to the jet-tub (hotel details online shows only jet-tub). The common areas are quite spacious and visually... more
Matt was easily available to answer questions before we arrived. Had limited time in Victoria due to limited ferries and poor planning on our part. Hotel was fantastic though.
Ambiance and attention to detail
Fabulous breakfasts

Never again.......too expensive to stay in an attic.
A lovely third floor room, wonderful breeze, very, very pleasant. Would stay there again.
It was great except the room only had a bath tub not a shower. Otherwise really nice!
Zimmer sehr nett; Frühstück großartig; Personal sehr nett

We had a wonderful stay, the Inn was a beautiful restoration of a 1885 mansion and was special. Our whole experience was wonderful, the room, the breakfasts, everything was perfect.
Wonderful old house, beautifully appointed rooms and grounds. Our host Matthew was most helpful and the breakfast served was absolutely scrumptious (and healthy). A few caveats - while the jet tub was fun to have, no shower was a bit offputting. Also long climb to the third floor room. The location was a bit far out with not many eating options close by. And finally a lot of street traffic... more
Nice house with antiques all over. Room was nice but very small for two
people. On the top floor, two separate flights of stairs, which is
common in Europe b & b'S. Breakfast was very good. Served on
English China.Staff friendly. Room clean.
\n\n
The room was very small. Lots of stairs to carry suitcases.
Loved the Victorian ambiance, beautiful furnishings, large tub/bathroom, friendly staff, great breakfast.
A well restored family home with luxury and a lot of thought. Tea and coffee available at all times.
The room was pleasing the bathroom, in particular the spa tub was superb! Somehow my vegan request didn't make it through to the service staff, but they went over and above to ensure I had an excellent breakfast every morning. Service was amazing once you arrived. Location was fine for us as we had a car and downtown was only 10 minutes away, but if you like to walk, the Castle is an easy walk... more
The location was ideal to get away from the in-town crowds even while being close enough to make quick trips to the Inner Harbor area. The staff's reception was friendly and helpful and continued to be attentive throughout the stay. Breakfast was delicious and bountiful! The restored building and amenities helped give me an historical perspective about Victoria. I would love to return!
Very good breakfast. Helpful staff.

Everything was good.
We had a lovely stay at the Amethyst! The Breakfasts were better than anything you could purchase. Staff was super friendly.
Amethyst Inn is a lovely building with a great garden. The breakfast area is gorgeously decorated. Everything is consistently vintage, from cutlery to walls decor. The staff is very nice and accommodating and the breakfast is delicious.
Really nice personnel. The rating of 4 is caused by the young girl that was responsible for the breakfast. She was very friendly but did not really understand what we wanted. Otherwise the hospitality was overwhelming. The whole house is heritage and the rooms are really exquisite if one likes this old style. There is a drawback to it as the staircases are very steep and there is no elevator.... more
Loved this heritage home with unique exterior and interior design. Large old furniture comfortable, staircases and fireplaces with excellent workmanship very impressive. Bathrooms updated with new, old style toilet, sink and bath. Very enjoyable breakfasts. Friendly staff.

Single small wattage bulb over bathroom sink difficult to easily see face to apply makeup for women or shaving for men.
We loved it so much. The breakfasts were the best ever and the owner was
so nice. E en switched us to a different room the next day when the room
I wanted became available. Loved sitting on the parlour or verandah with
our cognac in the evenings. We will be back for dure
The Amethyst Inn is a beautiful old mansion with antique furnishings throughout. The inside and outside of the property are beautiful. Each room is decorated with unique furniture and very functional. We were very disappointed with the staff -- they were almost invisible. If you phone, you get an answering machine; if you need to speak to someone to ask a question, etc., they are behind closed... more
Excellent place to stay.

Went three days with hot water kettle empty. Could not make tea or coffee.
Friendly, efficient staff in amazing Victorian house in lovely quiet area of Victoria with many "heritage" homes and good places to eat and visit all within walking distance.
Good breakfasts.
Comfy bed.
Quirky electrics! Turned light on and the fridge came on too!
Soaker hot tub with water jets.
\n\n
A bit too much Victoriana for us, but it was a museum once and that is just a personal preference.
Bed was very comfortable
Breakfast was well done and lots of food
\n\n
Nothing
Location, ambiance, food, beautiful garden, warm friendly concierge and family, reasonable price and a sense of seclusion from the city while still being close to sight seeing and places of interest.

The only negative thing is
parking downtown. Victoria is a wonderful walking city but if you have a car it takes a little planning to find a restaurant that catches your fancy.
This historical home is beautifully kept up to a high standard. The breakfast was wonderful, sumptuous, and well presented. It is in a quiet yet very convenient location. We enjoyed reading the colourful history of the home in the volume provided, and the musical accompaniment at breakfast was a bonus - the owners 9 year old son is a very proficient piano player. We shall definitely return.
Very nice century home facility contained with antiques all over. The breakfast was great. Bed was very comfortable. Many historical elements to appreciate at this place. When booking consider this place to be more of a B&B than a hotel in terms of staff & service.
second to none!!!! ... we surely will stay again!
We had a wonderful stay at the Amethyst Inn. Loved the antique furniture, the detailed woodwork and the building design. The breakfasts were the best we've ever had. We had to leave on an early ferry and they even packed us a breakfast to take with us. I would definitely recommend this B&B.
Very disappointed with the service! My husband and I have enjoyed repeated stays at many beautiful B+B's in downtown Victoria but not here. There was a bit of a language barrier and no warmth and hospitality that B+B's are know for. Very cool reception upon arrival. We were handed a paper to fill out, then up 3 flights of stairs to the attic handed keys and left without a word. Later I went... more
The room was very beautiful, and the breakfast were great.!!

Bath tub was something to get used to.
Very satisfying in a very beautiful house with excellent service. Fine detail and very clean. Exquisite breakfast all inclusive in a very excellent setting. No air conditioning in room but not a problem for the time of year of our visit. Would love to return.
Charming, clean, friendly staff, wonderful food.

Lighting over sink inadequate. Difficult to get in and out of claw footed tub. Kind of dangerous.
Helpful staff that accommodated our requests - thanks to Leon for the birthday cake!

No choice on the breakfast
The inn has a fascinating history and is maintained in an excellent conditon - it felt more victorian than most Victorian houses in Britain ! Delicious multi course breakfast- completely home made.

The Inn is a bit too far out of town for someone without a car. I walked or took the bus. Both were easy, but I would have preferred being closer to town.
Staff was welcoming upon our arrival and for accommodating to requests. Breakfasts were excellent (especially the apricot scones). The older style house had beautiful grounds and our garden room was pleasant, including a large tub for two, television, fridge and free (though somewhat sporadic) wireless Internet). For our last day, we had to leave before breakfast was scheduled to be served. We... more
All staff was very accomodating - including feeding us after breakfast hours, keeping an anniversary cake in the fridge for us, and showing us other rooms that were not occupied. Unfortunately, limited choice of rooms - we were provided with the last smallest one - Very small design bathroom (no shower) not really practical).
Good location.
\n\n
We were placed in the annex, which I believe was at one time the
servants quarters. It had very low ceilings. Yet, we were charged the
same price.
The breakfast was wonderful and the Inn is lovely. The house is about
135 years old and beautifully restored. We sat next to a man who lived
in the house for a short time 56 years ago when it was rundown. He comes
back periodically to enjoy it as it is today.

The whirlpool tub is small, you can only sit in it, but works well.
Prachtig huis, mooie kamers, in een rustige buurt, toch in de directe nabijheid van belangrijkste uitgangswegen. Ontbijtgelegenheid in prachtige kamer.

This b&b is in a stunning house built in 1860'S. The owners have kept
very well a number of period details and the house and decor is
beautiful. First class! Every thing was immaculately kept and spotless.
But it was the staff (we only met one young lady) who are to be

We had two out of four terrible nights sleep because the people above us ran the jaccuzi around midnight for over an hour. There should be some way to shut off the power so inconsiderate people can't do that.
Stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon in the Carriage House, next to the main building - very private. Beautiful stained-glass window above the bed. I have never felt so pampered in my whole life. The breakfasts were amazing and we actually looked forward to them every day. Beautiful Fabulous staff (thanks Ruth). Can't wait to go back!!!!!!
It's a nice B+B. Good breakfast, nice rooms and in a nice neighborhood. But if you are interested in a conversation with the owners, go somewhere else as their English is not very good.
Charming, sense of luxury, very lovely breakfast.
Excellent old home that has been renovated to a lovely bed and breakfast. Super Victorian furnishings throughout. Outstanding though very large breakfast. We'll be staying there again

The Amethyst is an old wooden building with a wonderful period interior: wood panelling, fantastic double staircase, large bedrooms, furniture in keeping with the decor.
