I use to go to Ajsai for sushi every once in a while, but now Akira is my favorate, tow dollars more then Ajisai but much better sushi and services. Those special rolls were so good I couldn't have enough of them!!!
I mean, other than the servers just standing there staring at you acting like you're a burden, the sushi is good. The only problem I had was the fact that on the floor vent next to my table there was about four pieces of rotting sushi just sitting there... more
I'm not sure if I've had better sushi since I wrote my first review, but I returned here last night and the food was just terrible.
The restaurant smelled damp and at one point reeked of burnt hair. The sashimi tasted vaguely fishy, which was a concern, and the rice was a little tough as though it was a bit old. There was lots of imitation crab on the menu, and WEIRD menu items.
The food was...

Up until recently we have enjoyed coming to Akira Sushi restaurant, over the years for the food. Unfortunately, after our visit this past Sunday, this view has changed drastically for us.The issue started with our arrival to the restaurant. I called in advanced to make a reservation for 14 people, including 3 families with little kids, but when we arrived the table was not ready and we had to... more
The food is all good. I'm not a huge sushi fan, I can handle it in moderate doses, but this place ranks as an exception. It's always prepared to perfection and apart from the tempura, which I can't stand, everything else I've eaten there has been quite good.
The service, honestly, is mediocre. Their delivery is lousy and attention to...

Any restaurant that serves raw fish loses my business when they keep the seating area as filthy as this place does...I don't want to imagine what the kitchen looks like!
There’s no dinner restaurant in our hotel in the depths of winter, so the four of us need to refuel with some top notch protein. Expectations aren’t high for a Japanese restaurant offering an all you can eat buffet for $20 with not very good reviews online. But a local has recommended it and off we go. What a very... more
I've been to Akira several times in the past. The food is good but the service has always been spotty at best. However tonight was the last time I will eat there.
We had a group of about twelve. Our waiter took our orders and the food started to come out. People got what they ordered in the beginning, but then they started bringing out full orders of things our table hadn't even ordered. Our...

This all-you-can-eat restaurant is always filled with young people, who obviously recognize a bargain when they see one. Come with an appetite and Akira won't disappoint you.
Went here for supper on a Saturday with family.
The maki was the best I've had at an all-you-can-eat restaurant.
Our waitress Linda was awsome. She was at our table frequently to refill drinks and to take additional orders.
What I disliked about the restaurant was the sushi. Although the quality of the fish was very good, the fish to...

The food was great. Hot or cold as expected. Tasty without being over spiced or too salty. People complain about slow service and I agree. Service is slow but I found that after your third visit, they get to know you and the service improves drastically. I do not recommend the weekends. That is when they are extremely busy and... more
I've been meaning to try this place out for a while now but the yelp comments regarding the service have kept me out of the restaurant; until now.
The Barrielicisious $20 all you can eat dinner menu is going on right now so I took my girlfriend for a meal. First thing I noticed is that this place is kinda dirty (chairs with mud all up the back, floors messy, etc) and it does look modern until...

We have been to this restaurant several times, and will be back. Not because of the service, but because of the food.
During our last visit, we had our first issue with the food. Everything was excellent except our Butter-fish and Salmon was still frozen.
Every time we are there, they take forever to come back after you order, so...

I only order vegetatian Sushi but it is always fresh and tasty and timely. Most staff don't speak english that well but you can get your request across.
Every server here is ignorant and stands around doing nothing when you want to order. There's a two hour limit on the stay, it seems like they only want you to order once and pass the time limit. When you have to get up and go to the bar to order another round of sushi and you get a look... more
There was a fruit fly in my water.
Service was brutal. Servers walked by, made eye contact with you and ignored you. Orders were mixed up and incorrect.
Not returning, ever.
If you're on a budget and don't mind sushi that is mostly rice and tempura pieces, then I recommend this place for you. The sashimi is hit and miss, and the soups are very watery. The staff is miserable and the cleanliness standards are questionable. For example, the waiter only wiped down half the table before we sat down and... more
Akira was OK but not my favorite in Barrie I would go back only if the other was too busy. The food was just ok.
Beautiful place, average sushi. AWFUL service. I've been there at least 5 times over 2 years just thinking maybe it will be better, but nope.
Get your food in the first round because unless you lasso the waitress your not getting a second round, they won't even make eye contact.
If by some miracle you get a second round you...

Always enjoy going to Akira. Great sushi and appetizers! Considering it's an all you can eat place, the sushi is actually good quality. Service is hit or miss, and they don't really recognize regulars. But overall, a great experience.
The food here is excellent and I would give it 5/5. However, the service is SO terrible, that I can't rate this restaurant higher than a 1. The server with the purple/red hair is a NIGHTMARE! I don't know why he hasn't been fired. I eat here all the time, and each time I am in, I see someone having... more
Loved the food. There were a lot of options and it was prepared well, sushi was rolled tightly and didn't fall apart unlike experiences at other resturants. However I will absolutely admit the staff is less then fantastic. Almost wanted leave as soon as we walked in. Staff was pushy and not very welcoming.
sushi in Barrie - why not. We found this place on Yelp - it had decent reviews so we decided to head downtown and check it out. This is a fairly large restaurant. Its an all you can eat and pay one price kinda place. The atmosphere is current - its bright - and overall nice. The food was good - however we had BRUTAL service. Hopefully when you go your server will be more attentive and polite.
My friend and I come here several times a year for lunch to catch up. The value for the all-you-can-eat lunch buffet is great - $12.99, and the selection is awesome. She orders off the sushi menu and I stick to everything else - chicken, rice, dumplings, edamame, etc. We are happy with the selection in comparison to other Japanese/sushi... more
ok, this place makes same really good Sushi - the AK47 was my favourite........however the waitress are the coldest, slowest, most unfriendly people i've met in a long time.......otherwise 4 stars for sure.
is the food worth putting up with the c@!%!y service.......yes
We are regulars at Akira because of the exceptionally fresh food and great value; (especially for weekday lunch). It is all you can eat but you order off a huge menu which has enough variety to suit vegetarians, sushi lovers, and people who don't like sushi at all. The menu has some restrictions for lunch. My advice is to order... more
The man with the purple black hair is so rude and we walked in and asked if we could sit in a booth he was mad that he had to clean the table, he then commented on having to tie my baby up in front of the restaurant!!! Wow I used to love going there , but no way will... more
Sushi, lots of sushi. made fresh to order, delicious, healthy, beautifully presented. Akira is tops.

p.s. try the Dragon Roll.
Akira, offers the best Japanese food in Barrie, In fact, I lived in Markham for 25 years and did not find better Japanese there. You have lots of choice and it is always fresh and delicious. The service is good. The all you can eat is great value. The restaurant is very clean. The window seats offer you a view... more
The food is well prepared and have a chance to try as many types of sushi as you can. Mulcaster roll and red Dragon roll are my favorites! The service varies, one waitress is very friendly and greets you with a smile. The other servers are introverted and sometimes inpatient with inexperienced customers, but don't let their bad day spoil... more
Nice ambiance but service is terrible. Waitress was quick to take the order but then disappeared. It seemed that they were trying to make sure you didn't order more (all you can eat). Sushi wasn't the best I've ever had but wasn't the worst either. $33.00 before tip for lunch for two seemed a bit steep.
We visit Sushi Itto...

I used to go here quite regularly with my boyfriend, as it was the best sushi place we knew of in Barrie. Having moved from Kingston, I was used to ordering single rolls or sashimi dinners, and the all-you-can-eat experience was a little much for me.
The restaurant atmosphere itself is lovely, especially when it's not busy. It's large, open,...

Amazing food!!! My boyfriend and I go at least a couple times a month and although the wait may be a bit lengthy, it is worth it. You can't beat the taste and the freshness of the food. The menu is diverse and you can watch the chefs making your food in front of you. I swear by this restaurant... more
At first, this place can be confusing. The giant banner outside boasts a lunch and dinner buffet, but when you go inside there is no buffet bar; which leads you to think that you showed up late or something. It's actually an all you can eat, and they give you a menu :) Great veggie selection, with proportionate rolls. My favorite was the Taro Tempura. Perfectly breaded and not greasy at all.... more
Delicious and beautifully presented. Great value. OK so service can be slow when busy, but worth waiting for. Haven't found anything on the menu that we don't like!
This Sushi restaurant is probably the best in Barrie but when it is busy avoid going in. The fish is very fresh and the Sushi is well made. all items off the kitchen side of the menu are also very good.
When the place is busy try to avoid going in. We had the misfortune of going on a busy...

More than one would expect from and all you can Sushi reateraunt. $12.99 for mid week lunch was excellent value.
Though we thought the sushi was good the service is so hostile we finally decided last night we will never go back. The waiters/waitresses are sullen, and drop food off to the table with a thud. The only time they speak is to ask impatiently, "Are you finished?"
We were so exasperated at having to wait ten minutes until someone...

I agree with Julian... Aji Sai is good but this place is amazing! The AK47 is to die for and as mentioned they have a huge selection of funky rolls. Everything (including the sashimi) is fresh and the actual restaurant is nice and warm (most sushi places tend to be cold to me). The one drawback is it's usually packed and sometimes the service is a bit slow on weekends! I definitely recommend it... more
For an all you can eat sushi restaurant this place was above price for the city. For less money at other places in the city you will get a better value; ie. more on the menu.
