War and Peace-sized vodka menu makes this dark, propaganda-laden room chiller than the Cold War-era vibe it's channeling. Too bad the ice room in the back is MIA. If you buy into it, the brick walled exterior, black leather and red candles are very glasnost. Small rations of kasha fries, perogies and meat-filled appies are just what the doctor-Zhivago that is-ordered.
Long and narrow like Lake Baikal, this spot even had Soviet-style bureacratic headaches registering their first choice of name. i gave them a try. cant say much. it sucks even more for them they have 2 great places right around them. tip, go across the street!
Aside from the Perogies, the food is below average - size, flavour and presentation all disappoint. The bartender looking after us was delightful, but all the other servers were terrible: when asked what was on the charcuterie platter, the server dropping it off replied... 'Um, meat?' Courses were rushed. Recommended if you're going for drinks and want to be seen.
Exposed brick and metal piping lend an industrial feel to this red-lit bar. Small plates inspired by Eastern Europe, including pierogies with deluxe fillings such as Dungeness crab or duck confit. More than 80 types of vodka. $-$$. D (Tu-Su).
