I am writing due to TWO visits to Mr Transmission on Bath road..
first visit was this past spring
The first visit to this tranny shop was with a 1999 Dodge 1500 pick-up truck... went to the shop as the truck was in "LIMP" mode (stuck in second gear). this transmission shop offers a free scan to see what codes are displaying. i took the truck in and asked for the scan... next day was told that they would need to drop the transmission for inspection and further diagnoses. the cost for this would be between350.00 and 500.00 ... i asked for codes but they said they didn't have any... i went home , got on the net.. found out that dodges can display codes on the odometer. i did this... ended up fixing the truck for less then 150.00. did it myself... and i had never looked inside a transmission before..The fault was with the 2-3 shift and the governor solenoid. dropping the transmission would not have helped as these parts are electric and foul up but not noticeable to the eye. i wasn't impressed.
why would they say no codes?...BUT.... everyone can make mistakes...
second visit was very recently...
I brought them an SUV that wouldn't move.... asked for the scan to be done. when i went back the next day...
the suv was up on the hoist...(scans are done through electrical port under the dash), i waited and when it was ready, i went inside and asked if any codes were showing, they admitted to NOT doing the scan.... so of course no codes.... why would they not do the scan??? Next i was told that they would need to drop the transmission to properly diagnose. ??????? why not just do the damn scan???? was informed that the cost to remove and inspect the transmission would be close 350.00 to 500.00...
DOES THIS SECOND STORY SOUND FAMILIAR ????
i was alarmed that they didn't do the scan... AGAIN.... and AGAIN just wanted 350.00 to 500.00 to inspect... what would come next... ? "you need a rebuild?"
i took this jeep to a "backyard mechanic" (he has an ad up on kijiji) i have used him before and will again... he is GOOD.
anyway... he spent a little time and found the problem to be a broken shift cable that is on the OUTSIDE of the transmission. cost was 50.00 for a used part in great shape (thanks to Dougs Auto Wreckers)
Wasn't to long and this mechanic had the suv up and running, shifted fine... no actual tranny issue.. certainly not reason to pull the transmission for 500.00.
I am disgusted with this tranny shop... both times they wanted to pull the tranny... and both times there was no reason to pull the tranny. Are there others out there who have had this same type of issues with this transmission shop? MR TRANSMISSION 1630 Bath Road.
I am NOT saying that they are out to scam anyone... (??) but i must say that it doesn't look good on their part... Just be cautious
i will not be responding to those who will argue against my little story. it is what it is facts are facts..... they didn't do what they were asked and they wanted to remove a transmission for inspection ($$$) when in BOTH cases this was not necessary....
pssst if you work there.... show this to the OWNER... i would mind hearing from him!
i would push a car past that shop before stopping there again.
I hope all have had better luck with tranny shops then i have!
thanks for reading be cautious and careful!!
I dropped in my SUV since it was making a clunking noise when it changed gears. They looked at it free for the day to give a proper assessment. They called back and said I needed new motor mounts. I said ok, they did the work, I paid $600 and drove off 2 days later. Friday I picked up the car and while getting onto the onramp of the 401 my car clunked into gear once again. I called them Monday since I was away for the weekend, and brought the car in.
They never test drove the vehicle.
They said "We never said this would fix the problem, we said we would change the part".
I had the mechanic and the owner test drive my truck. They both had no idea what was wrong and claimed it was clunking because they way I am driving it. IE: Shift blame to customer
So since they had no idea of what to do and insulted me numerous times, I said I want my money back. You didn't fix the problem I paid $600 for you assessed.
They refued and offered to replace my entire transmission (even though they had no idea what was wrong) and they would give me 15% off the labour of the $600 repair... but they wanted to charge me another $3000 to replace the tranny and they didn't even know if that would fix it.
