More upscale than a bar, less fancy than a sit-down dining room, the Merchantman broke new ground when it opened in the mid-'90s. Took an hour to get our food. Two out of four of the meals were edible. Mashed potatoes were as if they had been cooked yesterday and sat under the warmer all night, burger was like charcoal. My experience has been mediocre despite the positive reviews from the users before. I had meant to try another local restaurant but could not get a table until 2 hours later. Merchantman was close by our hotel (literally directly across from the Delta) with an assuring amount of patrons inside with a good ambiance.
Being my first time to PEI, I had been having a lot of burgers on the road here...

We were tired and exhausted, arriving in Charlottetown around 9pm after a long drive. We were staying at the Delta and they pointed us to the Merchant Man for dinner since it's right across the street. We walked in and were seated in the lounge, perfect.
