Every Thursday Mavericks has a reggae night. One of the few places you can go for reggae in the city, it is definitely the best I have been to.
I went with a friend of mine from Jamaica and we spent most of the night dancing and also people watching. There were a lot of other Jamaicans there, so this must be a sign of authenticity!

I went to this place for a concert and probably will never go back unless the lineup is better.
I knew the one performer and was attending to watch him but the organizers (perhaps the bar itself) lined up the most random bands and let one band (probably the least talented one) perform several more songs than the others.
The bar offers very little and the place is generally old and run down....

Maverick's is a stripped down bar with lots of empty space, dirty vibes and no panache. But it's still a good place to see a show. When I've gone, it wasn't too cramped: I actually had lots of room to dance. However, this bar can attract some popular indie bands, so lots of space isn't always the case.

The only place in Ottawa that combines great music and a vibrant atmosphere is Mavericks. If you're into the punk genre, this is pure heaven for punk lovers. The place is quiet extensive and is famous for staging popular concerts. Mavericks clientele is quiet stylish and classy.
