The worst experience I had with a hair salon!

I received a root touch-up (colour) and haircut service from Lori’s Hair Design on September 21. Before the process started I specifically stated that my skin is very sensitive and I will only use organic colour material. Lori stated that she does not carry organic product and promised that the material she used was all natural product. I also showed her a picture of mine with the style that I required and she promised that she could do the style. I trusted her words and allowed her to use her product.

When I arrived at her place, her already had a tube of colour material mixed. She showed me the catalog of her colour product. I did not witness her obtain the colour from any container with label of the product she described.

With a high price I paid, the result was terrible: the gray hair was still the same after her root touch-up work. When I pointed out the gray hair immediately after the haircut right in her store, she told me it seems to be the shiny light in her store. One week later, the gray hair all over my scalpl was obviously still the same as it is before the root touch-up. The hair cut was under par. Even an apprentice can do a better job. There was black foam on the back of my head after she rinsed the shampoo. The material she used for my root touch-up turned out to be stinky with cheap smell and the smell lasted over 10 days. It smelled like formaldehyde, which is used in preserving dead body in your biology classes. My scalp has been itchy for over one week.

I contacted Lori and stated that despite the poor hair cut, I would like her to keep the money and tip for the hair cut, but I want my money back for the root touch-up. Though saw the same gray hair with her own eyes and acknowledged the poor performance of her work, she demonstrated nasty manner when I was trying to address my concerns. She told me that “It’s not our policy to give refund under any circumstances. We just don’t do that.” She said, “I will not let people tell me how to run my business.” She said that “Your only option is have another root touch-up” using the same material. I explained, “Nobody is telling you how to run your business. It is your responsibility to offer quality result and you need to be fair to your paying customers. I will not do another colour job in such a short time period which will consequently damage my hair. “I even suggested that I can get the organic material for her to do the root touch-up because I have already used her material and I don’t trust it. She refused and responded “I only handle the one I know how to handle.”

She does not demonstrate basic respect as a professional who takes care of people’s body which involve human’s wellbeing. She needs to understand that my body, my hair is not a piece of mop for her experiment. My body is not a lab mouse to test those chemical materials again and again. I will not give her the second chance to damage my hair with cheap material. She is being selfish just to make a couple of dollars even it would jeopardize consumer’s health. It is not ethical, and is harmful to human health.
