Lac deschenes sailing club is a low budget racing oriented club. It has no qualified sailing instructors and has to rent a one week sailing program for the children. The courses are too short to obtain CYA certification. The main focus of the club is with the minority racing comunity which numbers less than 20% of its population, yet maintains complete control over the club. Non racers are expected to perform slave duty running races several times each during the summer in addition to having 100% of there membership dues allocated to racing while every other program is run for profit, even the junior sail traing program. There is no cost recovery related to sailboat racing. This shortsighted vision has resulted in a 60 year old average age for its membership base. Children generally are not seen at the club. The club has never evolved. Despite its website claims of having several national and international racers the club members do not even take part in regattas of neighbouring clubs, not even the National Capital Regatta. Join this club if your looking for a low budget, old age environment with a BBQ and a nice fire on the beach. Children are scoffed at, so if you have them do them a favor and join any club in the area where they will be welcomed and can find some friends to play with. The boats are old, average of 40 years and the dock is antiquated. If you are a cruising sailer you will be scoffed at because you don't race. You can park on the road and moor with the other cruisers without having to be a member and avoid the mandatory slave race duty.
