A little east of the main drag of 10th Street NW, this Kensington spot is an original, and one of the best cafes in town. Counter-service sandwiches, coffee, and decadent baked goods all served in a homey general store environment, Heartland feeds the soul at the same time as the belly.

Went here for lunch and was pretty disappointed. Service is odd, cafeteria style with few food choices. Breakfast menu seems decent upon first glance, but I haven't tried it. Lots of better choices in the area for lunch.
Service was forced. The young girl didn't seem to really enjoy waiting on us. (You can always tell half-hearted service)

I like it there. Not much selection but very cozy and comfortable. Good value too.
