Rude and dishonest receptionist!

This place is OK, face to face, but be VERY weary if you ever try to have your eye glasses, or contact lenses prescriptions sent anywhere else!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By law, they can NOT with hold your prescription from you, and all prescriptions must be complete in nature. Mine was requested, and took over 4 hours to get sent to my opticians office. After several phone calls to ask where the fax was, as I waited for it to be sent, I was lied to SEVERAL times by the 'manager' receptionist. She first stated it had been faxed, then when called again, said it hadn't, and then the excuses kept coming every time myself or my optician phoned to see why the prescription STILL wasnt faxed. She was VERY rude, and downright nasty! Long story short, this receptionist is very dishonest. When the fax finally arrived, it was incomplete, and still, 3 days latter, the entire prescription has NOT been faxed. (After asking repeatedly, for 2 more days!) All they ever sent was the diopters, which is not enough to fill either glasses, nor contact lenses- it was missing the base curve, and diameter (for contacts) and the PD (Pupil Diameter) for eye glasses- as I was tested and measured/fitted for BOTH, and requested BOTH sets of info be sent... I wouldn't ever go here again, and will certainly never recommend them to anyone.
VERY rude on the phone, and too many lies and delays!

Curtious Staff and Professional Doctors

Despite the previous review, I can attest to the professionalism displayed by Family Eye Care. Dr. Guy Stewart is very knowledgeable, and an excellent communicator. He provides a very thorough examination while keeping the patient's specific needs in mind. He is very good at explaining what is going on, and ensuring that the patient is informed as well.
Most clinics operate with additional fees due to the fact that what the ministry subsidizes is not enough to cover the cost of a full and thorough eye exam. You will find this is the case with the majority of health services. You truly get what you pay for, and if you are inclined to spend the very least amount of money on your health care, you have to be prepared to expect a lesser level of service. Most practitioners are not comfortable providing such a low standard, and thus the fees are necessary to ensure the standard of care is covered.
Contact lens appointments are generally separate, as it requires another full examination. Yes, you can just order them online, but as cited by numerous studies this is one of the main risks associated with Microbial Keratitis- a significant infection of the cornea which can lead to keratoplasty (corneal transplant) if not properly dealt with. A proper contact lens fitting appointment requires about the same amount of time as a regular eye exam, and cannot be expected to be performed during the same appointment.
You will find this to be the case at any optometrists office. Contact lenses are medical devices with more possible complications than the general public is aware of.
From my experience Family Eye Care provides an excellent standard of care backed by solid customer service.

Customers now pay for business' mistakes?!

"I have never heard of a customer having to pay for a business' mistakes! I am new to town and needed to find eye care. I called all over the city looking for the best prices for a prescription for glasses and contacts. I explained fully what I was looking for to each company. I thought I found one! I even called twice just to make sure. However, when I got there"Oh, there was a miscommunication." Then after they said they fixed it, I was called the following day with nonstop arguing that I must pay an additional fee that THEY made mistake not telling me!

On top of that...the prescription that I asked to make sure was for contacts as well...specifially says "THIS IS NOT A CONTACT PRESCRIPTION".

Not only was the staff misleading, but they continued to get the doctor involved: Guy Stewart, O.D.

I'm from the US and I have been told that Canadian health was amazing compared to the US. Well, this is not a good representation of it! I have ran business for several years...I've never seen a business ran this way!"

Family Eyecare has the greatest selection of frames and both Dr. Sangha and Dr. LeRoy are involved in the community. You should support this locally owned business. The staff are great and the prices are very reasonable. I'm happy to recommend Family Eyecare Centre.
