poor service

When I was a kid I took my car in there to get fixed, there was a squeaking fan belt. They wanted to replace a pulley on the motor for the fan belt. I asked - Is that what it was? and also asked -what if it was not that pulley that is squeaking? Ellis imports told me, no worries it not an expensive part anyways we (Ellis imports) will just replace the water pump then because that is the only other part that it could be. It was going to cost 40$ for the first pulley and 1.5 hour labor just to have them play trial and error lets pin the part on the car. I took it to another shop (willow street shell), They looked at it and listened to my squeaking belt with this long thing that looked like a pipe on a stethoscope. It turns out that it was the water pump and that 2nd shop repaired it and properly diagnosed the sound.
I felt like Ellis imports was trying to take advantage of some dumb kid. Now that I have a real job and new car. I do everything.. everything with the new car dealer.. It may cost more but it fixed right no trial and error and the cost up front and no grease prints all over the outside and inside of my car.
Ellis imports was going to oust me 40$ in a part and 1.5 hour at a mechanic wages because they did not take the time and effort. I felt so shafted but they did not get my money that time and that was the last time that I went in those doors.
