I was told to go here there was great food. This was the worst I have ever had, rude staff, food was terrible , place looked very very unsanitary . I think restaurants like this give the capital of Ottawa a very bad name, I will defiantly not be coming back if this reflects the food and service in Ottawa.... more
The food was disgusting, the staff were rude and the decor is horrible! Especially that plant they have sitting outside the door! Not to mention the place is very unsanitary, I even saw a rat run into the kitchen! I already called the Ottawa health inspector to have them look into it!
For Vietnam food, not pho, I favour this place. The food is always excellent and it is much enhanced when the owner leaves on the table his homemade hot sauce. On request. It is hot and very good.
The decor? Ignore it.
I can't get enough of this place. Not much for decor but the food makes up for it. I was in love with the hot and sour soup until we tried the pineapple and shrimp. It was even better. Shrimp rolls with the peanut sauce are delicious.
Meals are extremely tasty at a great price. Can't ask for anything more.
4 years ago my husband and I stood at the corner of Booth and Poplar contemplating which of the 3 Vietnamese restaurants in sight we should try. Lucky for us a couple climbing up the stairs from Chez Nam saw us and commented that Chez Nam was the best in town. We agree - and have been returning since. The food is always the freshest with the perfect combination of spices and fresh herbs.... more
A subterranean gem decked out with Vietnamese artwork and an inconspicuous Buddhist altar, Chez Nam is cozy and appealing. The menu is vast, with loads of chicken, beef, pork, seafood and vegetarian options. Hot and sour soup is a winner, and the spring rolls earn raves. The multi-course set menus for two-four people are a good deal and offer plenty of variety.
