"Wear earplugs and bring your taste buds" to this "super-cool" Chinatowner where "modern", "imaginative" Chinese sharing plates, "inventive" cocktails and a "friendly, witty" staff await; "if you can make it through the crowd of hipsters" you'll be rewarded with "vibrant", "fluorescent-free" environs, but expect a "long wait" (no reservations).
With its nostalgic feminine décor, youthful wait staff, and smart cocktail list, you may worry the food at Bao Bei is an afterthought. But sit down and you'll hear the iron clanging of good wok technique coming from the kitchen, a harbinger of delicious things to come. Flavours are brightly balanced: crispy sesame shao bing is the perfect slider of lamb sirloin and cilantro; rich pork belly is... more
Winning "Best New Restaurant" at the Vancouver Magazine 2011 Restaurant awards, Bao Bei often has an out-the-door line waiting to order from its innovate small-plates menu. I got the pork belly bun. It was the most forgettable pork belly I've ever ate. The bun was stale. The amount of pork belly was not sufficient. The garnishings does not compliment the piece. And it costed six tickets if my... more

Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie offers a Western twist on Chinese classics. Dishes are served tapas style and are best enjoyed with a group of friends. The atmosphere is trendy, yet comfortable and you will find a hip crowd of hungry bellies who are there for a good time. Start your meal off with the Sichuan cucumbers; they're refreshing and light. Next, order the bean curn skin with king oyster... more
