Astoria is a great family-style greek restaurant. A nice place to come to for lunch or dinner in the summertime because they have a great patio where you can enjoy the sunshine and watch the people go by. They make fantastic souvlaki. here. Also great to try is their appetizer platter which includes calamari, dolmades, spanikopita and a choice of two dips with pita. A great place to go if you feel a cold coming on as there is sooo much garlic in their tziki! Overall a nice family restaurant with a friendly atmosphere.
I recommned this place to anyone who likes meat & poultry and appreciates the authentic Greek cuisine. Main dishes come with fresh Greek salad and 2 sides rice, fries, oven raosted potatoes or vegggies. Beef and lamb are always tender and juicy, seafood is excellent too. and above all the atmosphere is always joyfull and pleasant.
This restaurant is more upscale and has a wider range of offerings than you might expect from the name. Whatever the protein, it seems to respond well to broiling -- beef, lamb, chicken, and seafood all get similar treatment. Vegetarians can try the souvlaki or moussaka, among others. Expect a wait if you arrive after 8:30pm or so on weekends.
With so many Greek cuisine options on the Danforth its tough to pick a favourite. This is definitely right up there.
As far as greek food goes, no complaints. I had a nice app platter with excellent calamari, hummus and grape seed wraps, etc. followed by a really nice greek salad. The service was lacking a little though-our waitor was very old and a little scatter-brained, we were not given water until we asked and our meals came out at seperate times. Otherwise a nice and busy restaurant. Always good to see... more
When it comes to Greek, Astoria is the place to go. The value is unbelievable, and the food is delicious.
Broiling is the specialty: beef, lamb, chicken and pork souvlaki platter (with salad, roast potatoes, rice, tzatziki and bread), chicken filet, New York steak, fried or grilled calamari, and lamb chops. Plus moussaka and spanakopita. Lunch, dinner, late-night daily. Casual. Entrees: $11.99-$18.99. AE, MC, V.
Toronto boasts a fabulous Greek restaurant district, and Astoria is up there among the best. Definitely casual, this restaurant, family-owned and operated for 25 years, bills itself as a shish kebob house — and the lamb version must be tried to be believed. Each kebob entree is a full meal and then some, accompanied by one large skewer, a generous heap of rice and potatoes, Greek salad, garlic... more
