I got scammed!!!!

RIPPED OFF!!! James(Gibson) if you are reading this I would appreciate it if you could refund my deposit. ***Warning to anyone considering this company...RUN DON'T WALK!!! This should be warning enough but if you want to know why please read on. Here's my story....I know it is long-winded but I hope to save someone else from being scammed like I was. On Tuesday July 5, 2016 I began looking for a company to remove vermiculite contaminated with asbestos from my attic. I spoke with James Gibson and James assured me that he and his workers were qualified to remove vermiculite attic insulation contaminated with asbestos. James talked a good talk and answered all my questions/concerns adequately. I should have known better but I went with the lowest bidder. (That was my first mistake.) I was in a time crunch to have this done as a condition of sale of my house so I didn't put nearly enough time in researching and getting knowledgeable in asbestos abatement. Well I decided to use Active Environmental. (Second mistake). I also gave him a large deposit (Third and biggest mistake!!!). On a positive note the workers arrived on time, but when his workers showed up I immediately had concerns as they arrived in a beat up car with 5 teenagers and a ladder sticking out of the window. Their equipment consisted of masks, (which seemed appropriate) some plastic tarp and Glad garbage bags...oh and I was assured that the Shop Vac had a HEPA filter!!! Seriously?!? Against my better judgement, I allowed them to set up and was hoping that a more qualified person would come with a proper truck and equipment. That truck (apparently the supervisor) did show up and left once the crew started setting up. After A few minutes my anxiety grew and I went to check on them. They had one plastic tarp on one wall in the bedroom where the attic hatch is and I asked them where they were going to set up the negative air pressure area and if they plan to set a proper containment area. One worker said "oh yeah, it's in the truck and he'll be back soon". I asked them if someone was already up in the attic and he said that they had a worker already starting to remove the ASBESTOS ! (none of the other workers had protective equipment, including myself during this conversation) I told them to stop working immediately until they had a proper containment room set up. I then called James and after a few hours he finally returned my call asked me to give him a chance to "make things right". James said he'd have his best crew in the next day (and I replied that I expected that from the get-go) and he had all kinds of excuses about having new employees, their cards were in the mail, his Supervisor had to leave to deal with the CAS for a family emergency and he even complained that his employees KEEP GOING TO JAIL!! I reluctantly said I'd give him a chance to set it right (he already had a large deposit) Soooo...here we are and nothing has been done. I left several voice mails, wrote an email requesting my deposit to be refunded and no response. Surprise, Surprise. Since then I have probably become more qualified in asbestos abatement than all of his employees combined. P.S. on the Active Environmemtal web site it says that they are members of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of commerce. I called both of them and guess what? Yup, you guessed it, never heard of them. If you click on the link for the Ontario Chamber of commerce it actually takes you to an Ontario California web site. So here's what I learned...Read Ontario reg. 278/05 and call many companies to get quotes. Vermiculite is a type 3 abatement (worst kind). Get copies of their credentials before hand; WSIB, Insurance and Ministry cert. 309. All workers on site need cards (253w). Oh BTW James, a shop vac. just won't cut it, needs to be a Class "H" containment. There are strict regulations for sealing the area, how they bag it, how they dispose of it, PPE (Personal protective equipment), negative air pressure, disposal bin etc. Hope this saves someone else from being a victim. This review does not even address the danger that he exposed my family to and his employees.
