Stay away from World Financial Group (WFG), they are Multi Level Marketing at its worst. They recruit anyone to sell complex financial products with potentially devastating consequences, including those with no experience in finance, and those with criminal backgrounds (as reported by The Mutual Funds Dealers Association of Canada’s (MFDA) Notice of Disciplinary Hearing report Re: Purisima Dy). They function similar to a pyramid scheme, and are driven by quantity of service, not quality, and as a result inappropriate products are being sold. They use deceptive and cult like tactics to recruit and sell.
WFG associates have been investigated by the MFDA for dishonesty and withholding investor’s money, and have been investigated by SEC in the United States for making variable annuities sales that are unsuitable and misrepresenting investment returns. In addition, they have had private lawsuits launched against them. WFG was formerly WMA, which was fined $100,000 "for not properly supervising its sales agents" after their clients lost nearly $2 million in unregistered investments. In 2000, WMA was fined $125,000 "for failing to report nearly 900 customer complaints".
