Not as sprawling and impressive as the Calgary Zoo, Edmonton's Valley Zoo, nestled in Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park near the river, is nonetheless a diverting activity amid the lush green surroundings of the North Saskatchewan river valley. More than 350 animals are here, including rare red panda twins, just born in May 2008.

We visited the zoo for the 2014 Easter event and were pleased to see that the zoo is undergoing extensive renovations!
There is, now, a restaurant; although we didn't visit it.

This zoo has many features that make it a very good resource for children to learn about animals, both wild and domestic, North American and global.
