The Wind Water Man Ginjo (served in Bamboo) and Yoshi Dai Ginjo are premiums that'll help you get your yen-on. Creative interior, funky origami-type lighting fixtures and narrow corridor make low seating arrangements seem cozy. Arigato!
Sitting on a stretch of Denman that’s chewed up and spat out many an ambitious restaurateur, Toratatsu—a spinoff of Kodai Uno’s Shiru-Bay, now shuttered—takes over the space most recently occupied by Clove. It is, like many spinoffs, a paler version of the original. Drinks are top-notch, though: try the Uno made with soho sake and pineapple juice.
Food: The menu includes standard fare for a Japanese izakaya as well as imaginative fusion items. My favorite was the Ebi Chili Mayo with big succulent tempura-fried tiger prawn accompanied with a savory chili mayo sauce.
