"There's a reason" this "little" West Sider has "survived" more than 30 years say acolytes who "linger" over affordable margaritas and some of "the best" Californian-style Mexican fare around; "pleasant" servers and framed place mats coloured by customers contribute to the overall "relaxed" atmosphere.

This Kitsilano institution’s theme song should be “La Grange” by ZZ Top. The small room is touchingly careworn in the best, most authentic sense of the word. The place is always packed, the beer ice cold, and while such classics as carne norteña ($15.95) and chile rellenos ($10.65) will likely never inspire, they will also never disappoint. (The ultra-moist chocolate cake on the other hand is... more

Excellent food. Great value

Excellent food with big portions and a great value for the money. We had the chicken enchiladas and veggie burrito and both were very tasty. They use an amazing sauce on the enchiladas, I just wish there was more of it. I also found the salsa that came with the chips a bit bland, would have liked spicier but my... more

An all-time favourite

When i lived in Vancouver (25 years ago) I came here almost weekly. When I return to visit the city I'm worried that the restaurant might have changed, or my tastes might have changed, but it never disappoints- the quality remains high and as they've never gone for trendy it never goes out of style. Homey, funky atmosphere, great service.... more

I do eat out VERY frequently and suck back a few cervezas while I'm at it, I would like to frequent the Topanga more, even on a weekly basis but as is,... more

This casual and colorful spot is a popular California-style Mexican cafe. The ambiance of Topanga Cafe is friendly and bright, with neon signs, customer-colored pictures and the odd sombrero tacked on the wall. Chips and salsa are served free as starters, and a large menu features your choice of a la carte or entree items. Try the Chicken Quesadilla with jack cheese and the delicious, creamy... more

Color the placemats while you wait and perhaps your creation will be added to the many that currently adorn the walls at this little Mex cafe that has been serving classic favorites since the 70s. Hankering for a chile relleno? Hungry for a flauta or a plate of piled-high nachos? You've come to the right place. Vegetarians will find happiness in a bean or eggplant enchilada or huevos rancheros.... more
